Chapter 700
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius
Kylee nodded enthusiastically. âDonât worry. I will take care of it.â
âAlright, off you go,â Turner said with a dismissive wave of his hand, signaling for Kylee to leave.
In a private room at a quiet restaurant:
âMs. Wright, I am truly sorry about that,â Darwin said, his voice laden with guilt as he looked at Belinda. After discovering the abrupt change in Tobyâs attending physician, Darwin had immediately called Belinda, insisting on treating her to a meal to offer a proper apology.
Dotsonâs behavior had been blatantly inappropriate. His actions had embarrassed both Belinda and Darwin.
As these thoughts simmered in his mind, Darwinâs expression darkened further. âDonât worry, Ms. Wright,â he said, his tone firm with determination. âI promise Iâll make this right. I will call Dotson right now.â His hand moved toward his phone.
Belinda, startled, quickly reached out and stopped him.
âThereâs no need for you to do that,â Belinda said calmly, her tone light. âItâs not really a big deal. Mr. Haywood simply wants to ensure his son receives the best possible treatment. From that perspective, his decision is completely understandable.â
Her gaze remained steady as she continued, âAfter all, the person in question is our department head, and there are so many people waiting for the chance to be treated by him. Itâs normal for Mr. Haywood not to want to pass up an opportunity like that.â
Belinda wasnât truly angry about the situation. If there was any frustration, it stemmed from Turnerâs deliberate attempts to undermine her. Dotsonâs actions, on the other hand, made perfect sense to her. What annoyed her was Dotsonâs subsequent, rather absurd request after asking for the transfer.
Darwinâs jaw tightened as he responded, âYour department head is clearly targeting you. Iâve heard about some of the conflicts between the two of you in the past.â
Belinda nodded slightly, a faint sigh escaping her lips. âYes, heâs intentionally targeting me. Thatâs why heâs going after my patients.â
Darwinâs frustration was evident, his expression darkening. Dotsonâs actions hadnât just caused trouble for Belindaâthey meant that Dotson had completely disregarded him.
Belinda, noticing Darwinâs anger, smiled gently. âDonât think about it anymore,â she said, her tone warm. âLetâs just eat.â
Darwin relented, choosing not to pursue the topic further. Since Toby had been transferred to Turnerâs care, there was no way he was going to be switched back. So, discussing the matter further wouldnât accomplish anything.
Overall, their meal was pleasant. After finishing the meal, Belinda and Darwin left the private room together and made their way toward the elevators.
As they walked, hurried footsteps sounded behind them, growing louder with each passing second. Belinda was just about to turn around when a sharp bump on her shoulder sent her stumbling forward.
