His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

But beneath that relief lurked a hint of disappointment. He was glad to know Belinda didnât harbor feelings for Devin.
Yet, he was also disheartened because her contentment with being single meant she didnât want to be with anyone nowâ¦
Harold said, âWell, just because you donât feel anything now doesnât mean itâll stay that way. You and Devin could start as friends and see where it leads. You never know what might happen.â
Lucasâ expression darkened the more he listened.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
Glancing at the screen, Lucas excused himself to take the call.
He left the room, phone in hand, seeking a quieter corner to answer.
The call was from Gordon, concerning a work matter. After a concise discussion, Lucas ended the call and turned to head back.
However, he suddenly stopped.
Standing in his path was Verena. Her sudden presence caused his brow to furrow.
âItâs been a while, Lucas,â Verena said.
Lucas gave a brief nod, his expression indifferent and his gaze unreadable.

Lucasâ lips pressed into a thin line before he answered, âNot now. Iâm busy.â
âItâll only take a moment,â Verena added hastily, a faint, self-deprecating smile crossing her lips. âI mean, itâs already hard for me to see you these days. If not now, who knows when Iâll get another chance?â
After a pause, Lucas sighed. âFine. Say what you need to say now.â
Verena smiled. âHow have you been, Lucas?â
âFine.â Lucasâ reply was flat and emotionless.
âAnd you and Ms. Wright⦠How are things between you two?â Verena asked, her voice faltering slightly.
âIâm pursuing her,â Lucas said.
Verena noticed something. The moment Lucas mentioned Belinda, his entire demeanor softened, the sharp edges of his expression smoothing out.
This filled her with jealousy.
So, Lucas was pursuing Belinda, and she hadnât accepted him yet?
Was Belinda playing hard to get or something?
âLucas, is there really no chance for us to be together now?â
Verena asked, her voice trembling.
Lucas remained indifferent, his tone as cold as ice. âWeâve already had this conversation. My answer wonât change.â
