Chapter 607
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

A wave of complex emotions washed over Lucas as he realized how much he had neglected about Belinda.
No wonder she was disappointed in him.
Even he himself thought he had treated her badly.
âIâm sorry,â Lucas said again, his voice heavier this time.
âIâve already told you, thereâs no need to apologize,â Belinda replied.
Lucas looked at her, his expression serious. âI was apologizing for the cake three years ago.â
The mention of that caused Belindaâs expression to change in an instant.
The cake from three years ago had been like a thorn embedded deeply in her heart, never forgotten.
Just the mention of it caused her heart to ache, and fresh pain flooded in.
âI shouldnât have done that,â Lucas continued, his voice dry and filled with remorse. âYou made a lot of effort to get that cake, but I let someone else ruin it. It was my faultâ¦â
Even now, talking about it made him want to hit himself.
Belinda swallowed the bite of food in her mouth, feeling a strange burn in her throatâwas it the spice or the weight of Lucasâ words?
âItâs been so long. I donât care anymore,â Belinda said, her voice barely audible.
Though her words were calm, only she knew how deeply the memory still cut.
Lucas opened his mouth to say something, but then realized that no matter what he said, it would sound empty.
âLetâs just eat,â Belinda eventually said after a long silence.
She didnât want to discuss it further.
âAlright,â Lucas agreed, nodding.
They sat in silence for a while.
Then, Belinda spoke again. âI should still thank you for the video. But⦠sacrificing that land for it, only for it to end up in Kaneâs hands. Isnât that a bitâ¦â
Lucas replied, his tone resolute and serious, âThis started because of me, and itâs my responsibility to fix it. I promised you Iâd help resolve it.â
He paused for a moment and then said, âI wonât let you down again.â
Belinda felt a soft tug at her heart upon hearing that.
Lucas gazed at Belinda, his voice low and husky. âBelinda, I wonât force you to get back together with me anymore.â
At his words, Belinda suddenly turned to look at him, her pupils contracting for a brief moment.
Lucas let out a self-mocking chuckle, his lips curving into a faint, bitter smile. âBecause right now, I have no right to ask you to be together with me. Lately, Iâve heard so many things from people. Theyâve made me realize just how awful Iâve been to you. During the years we were married, all I brought you was pain and suffering.â
His voice was thick with regret, each word heavy with emotion. He swallowed hard and continued, âAnd now, when I finally understand that I have feelings for you, I have to ask myself, what right do I have to ask you to be with me? As you once told me, just because I like you, does that mean youâre obligated to be with me? Why should you?â
