âI am a police officer,â the officer outside the room said, showing his badge.
Lucasâ expression shifted in an instant.
âWhy are the police here? Did something happen to Belinda?â he asked.

The officer shot him a skeptical look before opening the door.
Seeing Belinda awake, he asked her, âMs. Wright, is this man your husband?â
Belinda turned her head and gave Lucas a detached look, his anxious form lingering outside the door.

Lucasâ expression grew dark in an instant. He pulled out his phone and dialed Gordon.

He quickly located Belindaâs attending physician.
âMr. Clark!â The doctor was surprised upon seeing Lucas.
âI need to know how Belinda is doing. Is she hurt?â Lucas said directly.
The doctor hesitated, clearly weighing what she could disclose. Finally, she said, âMs. Wright inhaled a small amount of sedative. She may experience dizziness and nausea. Her neck has severe ligature marks, and the skin is broken and bleeding, but weâve treated it.â
âShe will be under observation tonight and can likely be discharged tomorrow if everything is stable.â
Lucasâ complexion turned pale.
