Chapter 487
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âDr. Wright,â Annetta began, her eyes filled with gratitude. She seemed hesitant to shake Belindaâs hand, unsure if it was appropriate.
Darwin spoke up, âAnnetta is here for a comprehensive check-up. She insisted on seeing you.â
Before he could continue, Annetta added, âDr. Wright, thank you so much. You really saved my life.â
âIâm just glad I could help, Annetta. Think nothing of it,â Belinda replied, still smiling.
âI feel terrible about missing dinner the other day,â Annetta said. âDr. Wright, could you join me for lunch today? Iâd like to treat you.â
âThereâs really no need for that. Iââ Belinda began to decline reflexively, but Annetta interrupted before she could finish.
âDr. Wright, this isnât just a polite gestureâitâs truly important. Please, let me have the opportunity to treat you to a meal,â Annetta said earnestly.
Given the circumstances, Belinda found it difficult to refuse. She nodded. âAlright, how about this afternoon?â
Annettaâs face brightened instantly. âPerfect! Weâll pick a place, and Darwin will come to pick you up.â
Belinda shook her head. âThereâs no need for that, Annetta. I drove myself today. Just send me the address, and Iâll head there during lunchtime.â
âAlright then,â Annetta agreed, not pressing the matter further.
At noon, Belinda drove herself to the restaurant Annetta had mentioned.
At the dining table, Annetta held Belindaâs hand throughout the meal, expressing her gratitude repeatedly, which made Belinda feel slightly embarrassed.
During their meal, Belinda learned a few things. For instance, Annetta was not related to Darwin by blood; she was the familyâs housekeeper. However, having raised him since childhood, Darwin considered her like a mother.
Belinda and Annetta connected well. They exchanged phone numbers and even planned a shopping trip together.
It was then that Darwin said, âDr. Wright, I heard youâve been going on blind dates recently?â
Belinda tensed, feeling slightly uncomfortable. She nodded hesitantly. âUh⦠yeah, thatâs right.â
Annettaâs eyes sparkled. âYou donât have a boyfriend yet, Belinda? What do you think of Darwin?â
Darwinâs expression subtly changed when he heard that. He had intentionally steered the conversation in this direction, hoping Annetta would make such a suggestion. She had always been concerned about his personal life, and he knew she had clearly taken a liking to Belinda. Since theyâd entered the private dining room, Belinda had barely spoken to him, barely acknowledging his presence. Was he really that invisible to her? The thought bothered him more than he cared to admit, which was why he had brought up this topic.
Belinda was caught off guard by Annettaâs suggestion. Her face froze for a moment before she forced a polite smile. âAnnetta, letâs not joke about this. Iâm only going on these dates because my friends insist on it. Besides, Iâve just finalized my divorceâIâm not looking for anything like that at the moment.â
