Chapter 476
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âI donât understand at all!â Morse replied, his tone still sharp.
On the other end of the line, Minna rolled her eyes, irritated, then said, âIâm telling you that Iâm not leaving you in the lurch. But I can only help you in secret, not in public. We canât let anyone find out about this. Got it?â
After a brief pause, she added thoughtfully, âMorse, your family has already upset the Clark family. You really donât want to offend the Williamson family as well, do you?â
Morseâs expression darkened even more at her words. âAre you threatening me now?â he asked.
âItâs not a threat, just a friendly warning,â Minna replied in a calm voice. âThink about it. If you point the finger at me, telling Mr. Clark that I was the one who asked you to drug Belinda, will Mr. Clark really let you off the hook? And do you think the Wagner family will get away with it? If you did that, the Clark family would continue to target you relentlessly, and the Williamson family wouldnât show you any mercy, either. Consider the consequences carefullyâdo you truly want to face that? Iâve said all I need to say. The decision is yours.â
Without waiting for Morse to respond, Minna ended the call.
For a long moment, Morse remained silent and still, his face drained of color. He eventually turned and left the room, heading downstairs.
No sooner had his foot touched the bottom step than a series of muffled thuds filled the air. His father was furiously smashing the objects on the table, his face flushed with anger.
When Darrell Wagner, Morseâs father, saw Morse come downstairs, he looked ready to kill. âI told you to win over Belinda. That way, the Wagner family could establish a connection with the Thomas family. But I didnât tell you to try to drug her! Were you out of your mind? How dare you resort to such a despicable tactic? Not only that, but you also got caught by Mr. Clark! Look at the mess weâre in now! Youâve ruined the Wagner familyâs reputation!â
Darrell then slumped onto the sofa dejectedly.
Morse couldnât even bring himself to look at Darrell when he spoke.
Finally, when Darrell finished, Morse walked over to him and said, âDad, let me explainâ¦â Without leaving out any details, Morse told Darrell how Minna had instructed him to drug Belinda.
This seemed to make Darrell even angrier. âYou fool! How could you have listened to Minna? Sheâs just using you!â he exclaimed.
Darrell then took a deep breath and continued more calmly, âHowever, Minna isnât entirely wrong. Telling Mr. Clark the truth wonât help you now. After all, you did attempt to drug Belinda, and if your plan had worked, Belinda would have been harmed. Because of that, Mr. Clark wonât let you off the hook. And exposing Minna would only mean we offend both the Clark family and the Williamson family, which would only make things worse for us.â
Darrell paused thoughtfully and then asked Morse, âDo you have any evidence that Minna asked you to drug Belinda?â
âI do. I recorded my conversations with her,â Morse quickly said, nodding.
