Chapter 43
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âWhy did you purchase a new bed?â Harold confronted Lucas with a fierce scowl.
Unfazed, Lucas retorted, âWhat do you think a bed is for, if not for sleeping? Especially since you had all the other beds removed from the house.â
Harold argued vehemently, âYou and Belinda are still married. Married couples share one bed, not separate ones.â
Lucas coolly met Haroldâs gaze and replied, âOur marriage might not last another month. Why does sharing a bed matter now?â
Harold was momentarily at a loss for words. After a pause, he quickly responded, âConsider not divorcing. Where else will you find a wife as great as Belinda? Youâre overlooking your good luck. Donât regret it once sheâs gone.â
Lucas couldnât help but scoff at Haroldâs words, a sneer of derision crossing his face. âRegret divorcing Belinda? Trust me, thatâs something Iâll never regret.â His voice rang with conviction, full of certainty.
What he failed to realize was that soon, he would come face to face with the true meaning of regret.
Harold fixed his gaze on Lucas, his voice heavy with authority. âIs Verena the reason youâre divorcing Belinda?â
Lucas remained silent.
The sternness in Haroldâs face deepened instantly. âLucas, hear me clearly. I will never let you marry Verena as long as I am alive!â
Normaâs expression creased with worry at these words. She quickly said, âHarold, donât get worked up like this. Itâs not good for your health.â
Lucasâ expression darkened. He stared at Harold, his look fraught with complicated emotions. âWhy canât I marry Verena? Youâve been against it for six years. Isnât that enough time to demonstrate her love?â
Harold exhaled deeply, his gaze pleading as he said, âLucas, as your father, would I ever harm you? Verena isnât the right match for you. Trust me one last time; end things with her and make your marriage to Belinda work, will you?â
Hearing that, Lucas scoffed sharply. âYouâve been playing the same tune for six yearsâclaiming to protect me while manipulating my choices, threatening me to sever ties with Verena, and forcing me into a marriage with Belinda. You always think youâre doing the right thing for me.â
After a pause, he continued coldly, âBut, Dad, Iâm not the naive kid I was back then anymore. Do you honestly believe Iâd still give in to your threats and back down?â
Lucasâ tone sharpened dramatically as he reached the end of his sentence. His eyes, unblinking and determined, locked onto Haroldâs in a steady, unwavering challenge.
Faced with Lucasâ firm stance, Harold felt his anger surge, his complexion rapidly reddening.
âHarold, please, calm down,â Norma said, placing a calming hand on Harold. She then turned to Lucas urgently, saying, âLucas, this isnât the time to stress your father. Please, just stop talking now.â
