Chapter 428
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Harold waved her off with a dismissive hand. âI donât trust your promises at all. Itâs already settled. If you donât want Lucas here, Iâll keep an eye on you myself. Is that what you want?â
Belindaâs shoulders slumped in defeat. âHaroldâ¦â
âEnough,â Harold said in a tone that brooked no argument. âIâm heading out now. Lucas will stay here with you.â
Then, he stood up and turned to look at Lucas. âLucas, Iâm leaving her in your hands. If anything happens to her, Iâll hold you accountable.â
Harold turned on his heels, leaning lightly on his cane as he prepared to leave.
âHarold!â Belinda called after him, trying to protest one last time.
But Harold didnât even glance back, merely waving a hand in a casual farewell as he exited the room.
The door soon clicked shut behind Harold, and the room fell into an uneasy quiet.
The air between Belinda and Lucas seemed to grow heavier, charged with unspoken tension.
Before Lucas could say anything, Belinda broke the silence.
She said in a calm voice, âMr. Clark, thereâs no need for you to stay here for me.â
âYou can go take care of your own matters. Iâll be fine on my own.â
Let me know if you need further adjustments!
Lucasâ expression darkened at Belindaâs words. âDidnât you hear what Harold just said?â he asked in an icy voice.
âIâm perfectly capable of taking care of myself, Mr. Clark. If Harold asks about this, Iâll just tell him that you were indeed supervising me, so thereâs no need for you to worry about anything.â
Belindaâs demeanor was calm as she said that. However, her nonchalance only made Lucas feel frustrated.
He pinned Belinda with a sharp, penetrating gaze, as if staring at her long enough would grant him access to her thoughts and emotions.
Then suddenly, his lips curled into a faint smirk.
He asked in a low voice, âWhat are you afraid of, Belinda?â
Belindaâs eyes narrowed ever so slightly when she heard that.
She slowly lifted her head and met Lucasâ gaze.
Instead of answering his question, she said, âMe, scared? What a strange notion, Mr. Clark. Why would I be scared of anything related to you?â
Lucas let out a soft chuckle. âWell, thatâs something only you can answer, isnât it? If you are really not scared, then why are you so eager to get rid of me? What is it about being in the same room with me thatâs so scary to you?â
Belinda pressed her lips together for a moment and exhaled slowly.
