Chapter 424
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Her breathing grew more labored, and sweat beaded on her brow, dripping faster than she could wipe it away.
âDr. Wright, are you sure youâre alright? You seem unwell,â one of the doctors spoke up, his concern evident.
âYes, Dr. Wright, please, if youâre not feeling well, itâs crucial to let us know. Donât overexert yourself,â another doctor added urgently.
Belinda inhaled deeply, her voice slightly shaky as she responded, âI understand my body better than anyone else. Iâm perfectly capable of continuing the surgery.â
She had felt similar symptoms beforeâclear signs of an allergic reaction. Yet, she was puzzled about the source of the allergen.
Just then, blood spurted violently from the patient.
âDr. Wright! Weâve got a hemorrhage here!â a nurse called out in a frantic voice.
With unwavering focus, Belinda zeroed in on the source of the bleeding. âDr. Wright! The patientâs blood pressure is plummeting!â the nurse shouted again, her voice laced with anxiety.
Despite the escalating situation, Belinda maintained her composure, her face a mask of concentration.
Two doctors nearby exchanged knowing glances. They had been quietly informed by Turner that, should Belinda struggle during the surgery, they were not to intervene immediately. If she showed signs of faltering, they were to suggest another surgeon take over.
This was Belindaâs first surgery as the lead surgeon. If she needed assistance, it would provide Turner with an opportunity to question her competence.
With that in mind, one of the doctors cautiously asked, âWhatâs our next step here?â
âPerhaps we should consider calling another doctor for support?â suggested another, seizing the opportunity to advance his own agenda.
The nurse beside the two doctors furrowed her brow, her voice tinged with urgency. âBut the surgery is at a critical stage! Bringing in another doctor now will waste precious time. Every second we delay increases the risk to the patient!â
âBut continuing like this will only make the patientâs condition worse!â one of the doctors argued, frustration evident in his tone.
âEnough!â Belindaâs voice cut through the tense exchange.
The room fell silent, all eyes turning toward Belinda.
She took a steadying breath and said, âThereâs no need to call anyone else. I can handle this.â Her tone was firm, and her confidence radiated.
But one doctor remained unconvinced. âDr. Wright, I understand this is your first surgery as the lead surgeon and that the surgeryâs success is vital for your career. But this is about the patient, not your pride. Given the circumstances, you cannot do this alone. If we donât bring in another doctor to help, the patientâs life is at serious risk!â
Belinda paused, her fingers tightening around the scalpel.
