Chapter 374
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âAlright.â Reassured by the personâs words, Verena felt a weight lift off her shoulders.
âTonight at ten, meet me at our usual spot,â the person suddenly said.
At this, Verenaâs expression hardened.
Anger seeped into her tone. âYou⦠After everything I have gone through, you stillâ¦â
The person cut her off sharply. âStop the act, Verena. You better cooperate with me. You know I have a short fuse and little patience. Be there at ten oâclock, and donât be late.â With that, the call ended abruptly.
Verena clenched her phone tightly, biting down hard on her lip. A moment later, there was a knock at the door. Only then did she recall that Ryan was still outside. She quickly regained her composure and called out, âCome in.â
Ryan entered, quietly shutting the hospital room door behind him. Noticing Verenaâs pale demeanor, he frowned slightly and asked with concern, âWhatâs wrong, Verena? Is everything okay?â
Nodding, Verena reassured him, âEverything is fine. I am just concerned that Lucas might dislike me because of this incident.â
Ryan offered a comforting smile and said, âYou are overthinking it. Lucas isnât the type to turn his back on someone he cares about. How could he ever dislike you?â
Verena pressed her lips together and looked down, remaining silent. After a moment, she eventually said, âRyan, why am I feeling so uncertain now? It seems to me that Lucasâ reaction this time isnât showing that he cares about me.â
Ryan paused for a moment, reflecting on her words. In fact, he shared her uncertainty, yet he aimed to reassure her, saying, âVerena, donât worry too much. Opportunities like this are rare; you have to grab it!â He then changed the topic and asked, âAre you all set for tomorrow nightâs plan?â
Verena nodded firmly. âYes, I am ready for that. The plan for tomorrow night will go smoothly.â
âYou can just sit back and wait to watch the show!â
âExcellent,â Ryan responded with a knowing smile.
It was already past ten in the evening, and Lucas still hadnât returned.
Belinda lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
The quiet room felt stifling, her thoughts racing too wildly to let her rest.
Finally, she sat up, grabbed her phone, and dialed Mollieâs number.
The call connected quickly. âBelinda, why are you calling me so late? Whatâs going on?â Mollie asked, her tone light but curious.
âI am feeling restless and need someone to talk to,â Belinda admitted, her voice tinged with vulnerability.
Mollie paused for a moment before responding, her tone softening. âYou canât sleep because youâre thinking about your relationship with Lucas, right?â
Belinda sighed.
Tomorrow was Haroldâs birthday, and, as planned, she and Lucas would finalize their divorce after the celebration.
Yet tonight, the weight of it all pressed heavily on her chest.
