Chapter 36
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

At that moment, Ryan said, âVerena, youâre reading too much into it! Just look at Belinda. Sheâs hardly someone Lucas would find attractive. Youâve seen her before. She looks unappealing, and that mark on her face is off-putting. Lucas would never like someone like her!â
Facing Verena, Ryan continued, âYour concern for the matter comes from your insecurities. You care about Lucas too much. Relax. Since Lucas vowed to marry you back then, he will keep his word. If Harold insists on delaying the divorce by a month, then thatâs what will happen. Everything will fall into place. You only need to wait for a while.â
Verena appeared uneasy, wanting to argue further, but Ryanâs firm look silenced her.
A wave of conflicting emotions passed through Lucasâ eyes when he heard Ryanâs words.
âLucas, since we brought you the food, we wonât stay and bother you any longer,â Ryan said. He then gestured to Verena. âCome on, letâs go.â
Verena pressed her lips together, gave a reluctant nod, and advised Lucas, âMake sure you drink the soup while itâs still warm.â With that, Ryan and Verena left together.
Once outside the building and seated in the car, Verena couldnât contain her frustration any longer. âRyan, why did you stop me from questioning him further? Surely you noticed his hesitation!â
Ryan maintained his composure. âPressing him now might only worsen things. Pushing him could drive him away. What if he admitted he is reconsidering the divorce?â
Verena was left without words. Ryan inhaled deeply and continued, âWe need to understand why Lucas is hesitant.â
âIs it personal? Is it because of Belinda? Or perhaps⦠because of this Belinie?â
When Ryan mentioned Belinie, a flicker of concern crossed Lucasâ face. If Lucas had any interest in Belinieâ¦
Ryan knew he was outmatched.
Verenaâs expression darkened. She thought Belinda was troublesome enough, and now there was this Belinie? Every woman competing for Lucas was an enemy in her eyes.
Ryan gave Verena a meaningful look. âBy the way, we havenât seen Belinda since she returned. Maybe itâs time we invited her out for a talk?â
Verena only blinked in response, remaining silent.
âDonât worry about Belinie,â Ryan said confidently. âIâll handle her.â
Hearing Ryanâs assertion, Verena looked at him with a hint of skepticism in her eyes.
With a confident smile, Ryan boasted, âDarren thinks highly of me. He even handed me Belinieâs number himself. Isnât that practically his permission for me to pursue her? Relax, Iâll certainly win her over.â
Verena simply nodded, keeping her thoughts to herself.
