Chapter 320
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Just then, the quiet ambiance was interrupted by the ringing of her phone. The number was unfamiliar.
Belinda swiped to answer the call, her tone neutral. âWhoâs this?â
âItâs Dad, Belinda,â came Bakerâs voice.
Belindaâs expression darkened instantly when she heard that. She considered hanging up but paused for a moment.
Rising from her seat, she turned to Mollie. âExcuse me, Mollie. I need to take this call.â
Mollie nodded. âGo ahead.â
Belinda walked a short distance away.
âWhat do you want now, Mr. Wright?â Belinda asked, her tone cold and detached.
On the other end of the line, Bakerâs voice softened unnaturally. âBelinda, Iâve been reflecting on my actions. I was wrong yesterday.â
âI shouldnât have spoken to you like that, and I owe you an apology.â
Belinda chuckled dryly, her voice laced with sarcasm. âYou, the head of the Wright family, admitting fault? Thatâs really rare.â
Her smile didnât reach her eyes; her expression was cold. Every word from her last conversation with Baker was still fresh in her mind. She hadnât forgotten a single one.
âBelinda, I truly regret my actions,â Baker said, sounding a bit resigned. âPlease donât be mad at me.â But his words only deepened Belindaâs disgust.
She didnât believe that Baker truly recognized his mistakes. She knew exactly why he was calling her now.
The Thomas familyâs retaliation against the Williamson and Sampson families for her sake had changed his attitude toward her. Now, he knew the Williamson family wouldnât dare cross the Wright family. He was trying to curry favor with her, but Belinda saw through him.
Belindaâs guess was spot on.
When Baker had first heard the news, he had been stunned. The Thomas family taking such drastic measures for someone with no blood ties? It was unthinkable. The Sampson family was not very powerful, but the Williamson familyâranked eighth among the elite familiesâwas a different matter entirely.
Was Belinda really worth it for the Thomas family to target the Williamson family?
At first, Baker had thought the Thomas family had lost their minds. Then, realization had struck him: his daughter carried more influence over the Thomas family than he had ever imagined.
Belinda let out a cold laugh. âDonât worry. I am not angry with you. Youâre not worth the effort.â
On the other end of the line, Bakerâs face twisted with anger. He wanted to snap but held back, forcing himself to remain composed.
âBelinda,â he said with a forced smile, âwhy donât you come home for a meal when you are free? Iâd like to discussââ
Before Baker could finish, Belinda interjected, âI donât want to have a meal with you. It would only ruin both our appetites.â
Without waiting for a response, she ended the call.
