Chapter 314
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

The sarcasm in his tone struck a nerve.
Saraiâs face flushed a deep crimson, a wave of embarrassment washing over her in an instant.
âI-Iâm so sorry, Mr. Clark,â she stammered. âIt wasnât intentional. I just⦠I just wanted to explain about Belinda. I really misspoke. She has never liked anyone else.â
âShe has only liked you.â
Lucas let out a low, mocking chuckle as he looked at Sarai with cold eyes.
âHonestly, I didnât care much about that at first,â he said. âBut your eagerness to explain⦠Now, Iâm starting to wonder something.â
His gaze swept over Sarai, cool and deliberate.
âTell me, Miss Lewisâdo you want me to believe you or not?â
âI, Iâ¦â Sarai stammered, her face frozen as if caught in a moment she couldnât escape.
After a long pause, she finally muttered, âIâm telling the truth.â
âNot very convincing.â Lucasâ tone was even, neither warm nor cold.
Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away.
Sarai stood motionless, her eyes locked on his retreating figure. His words lingered in the air, cryptic and sharp, leaving her unsure of what he truly meant.
Her expression shifted, a storm of emotions flickering across her face. In the end, all she did was bite her lip and walk away in silence.
Kenia and her companions didnât linger long in the Clark familyâs residence. After making their goodbyes downstairs, Lucas and Belinda saw them off.
Once the guests had left, Harold called Lucas into the study.
Haroldâs voice was steady when he said to Lucas, âI just spoke with Belindaâs grandmother about your relationship with Belinda.â
Lucas remained quiet, his expression unreadable.
âKenia supports the idea of a divorce,â Harold continued. âShe asked me not to interfere if, after my birthday, you and Belinda still want to get a divorce.â
At this, Lucasâ pupils contracted ever so slightly, and his gaze flickered toward Harold. He had actually anticipated this.
âShe doesnât want Belinda wasting her time on someone who doesnât love her,â Harold added. âAnd I canât say I blame her for that. She is just protecting her granddaughter. So, if you decide to go through with the divorce after my birthday, I wonât stand in your way.â
Lucas said nothing, the silence hanging heavy in the air. It wasnât that he disagreed with Harold; he just didnât know what to say.
Harold leaned forward, his tone firm. âLucas, have you thought this through? Do you really want this divorce?â
After a long pause, Lucas finally spoke, his voice devoid of emotion. âYes.â
The word landed like a stone, heavy and final. Yet, as soon as Lucas said it, a strange sensation stirred within him, making him feel a bit uncomfortable. But then, he reminded himselfâwasnât the divorce what he had wanted all along? He should feel relieved and happy about this.
Haroldâs eyes searched Lucasâ face, complicated emotions swirling in them. After a moment, he straightened in his chair. âAlright. If thatâs your decision, I wonât say anything more. You can leave now.â
