Chapter 22
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

With a forced chuckle, Belinda responded, âHarold, isnât that a little over the top?â
Immediately, Harold adopted a pitiful look. âIâm just feeling a bit lonely and thought itâd be nice if you and Lucas could keep me company more often. Is that unreasonable?â He embodied the image of a dejected elder now.
Both Lucas and Belinda didnât know what to say.
With a heavy sigh that carried a tone of resignation, Harold continued, âNever mind, I understand. Young people like you wouldnât want to stay with an old fellow like me. Itâs okay; a bit of solitude wonât harm meââ
Unable to bear such words from Harold, Belinda quickly interjected, âHarold, Iâll move back here to keep you and Norma company.â
She only said she would move back, not mentioning Lucas. Moreover, she had planned to discuss her impending divorce from Lucas with Harold the following day, meaning her return to the Clark family home would be brief.
At her words, Haroldâs demeanor transformed as he beamed and then turned to gauge Lucasâs reaction.
Lucasâs brow furrowed. He was clearly displeased by the turn of events.
Haroldâs tone became serious. âIs it really so burdensome for you to spend time with an old man like me?â
âLucas, just say yes. Momâs missing you, too,â Norma chimed in, giving Lucas a meaningful look.
Facing Harold, Lucas seemed to have thought of something and eventually gave in.
Haroldâs face brightened immensely. âExcellent! Hooper has already prepared your room. Itâs getting late; perhaps you should rest for the night.â
When he entered the bedroom, Lucas scowled at the large bed dominating the space.
Belinda, maintaining her composure, headed straight for the bathroom to shower without a word.
The butler, Hooper Todd, had arranged everything meticulously, from fresh clothes to toiletries.
After her shower, Belinda slipped into her loungewear and settled into bed.
Lucas exited the other bathroom and, seeing Belinda in bed, scoffed, âBelinda, me sharing this bed with you is out of the question. You might as well forget about the idea now.â
Belinda couldnât help but roll her eyes in response. âAs if Iâd ever want to share a bed with youâIâd probably end up with nightmares.â
Belinda made her intentions clear with conviction, saying, âIâll be sleeping in the bed, and you can use the sofa.â
Lucas frowned. âThe sofa, really?â
With a taunting smile, Belinda said, âMr. Clark, isnât it time you showed some gentlemanly behavior?â
