Chapter 169
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âThe only reason they havenât reconciled yet is because of their pride.â
Then, she fixed her gaze on Lillie and told her directly, âBesides, there is no way in hell Darren will ever like you.â
Belinda knew exactly what kind of person Lillie wasâa vain and selfish gold digger. Lillie had even built a reputation for being a school bully back when they had been young. Darren didnât deserve to be with someone like her.
And if, by some twist of fate, Darren somehow did take an interest in Lillie, Belinda swore to herself that she would do everything in her power to tear them apart for Darrenâs sake.
âYou!â Lillie seethed, her face turning red with fury.
After a while, she composed herself, took a deep breath, and straightened her back. âI canât know that for certain if I donât try!â she declared with renewed conviction.
âThere is no need for you to try,â Belinda retorted almost immediately. âYour efforts will go to waste because your goal is an impossible one!â
Lillieâs expression darkened in an instant. âAre you saying that you wonât help me win Darren over, is that it?â
Belinda shot her a look of contempt. âThatâs exactly what Iâm saying.â
Her tone grew colder as she went on to warn, âLet me make myself clear, Lillie. You will never bother Darren again, nor will you even think about using me as a way to get close to him. If I find out that youâve sprung yet another ridiculous attempt to catch his attention⦠Letâs just say I will teach you a lesson you will never forget.â
With that, she turned on her heel and strode away.
Lillie was furious, but all she could really do was stomp her foot and yell out in frustration.
After a while, she whirled around to face Kylee, her eyes still wide and a little crazed. âWhat did Belinda mean by all that? Was she threatening me just now?â
Kylee pressed her lips into a thin line and glanced awkwardly at the ground.
âCalm down, Lillie,â she finally managed to say, albeit stiffly. âBelinda meant nothing of the sort.â
âDonât defend her, Kylee! Iâm not a fool! She doesnât want me to get anywhere near Darren!â Lillie exclaimed in anger.
Something flickered in Kyleeâs eyes at that moment, but she quickly masked it. âItâs strange, though,â she said with a sigh. âBelinda seems particularly protective of Mr. Thomas. I once mentioned wanting to meet him, but Belinda was against it. She was very adamant about it, too. If I didnât know any better, I might have thought she was worried I was going to take something precious from her.â
Kyleeâs tone was laden with meaning.
Lillie quickly caught on, and her eyes narrowed with her own suspicions. Could it beâ¦
Lillie looked at Kylee, furrowing her eyebrows slightly. âCould it be that Belinda has feelings for Darren, too?â
Kyleeâs face registered shock, her hand flying to her mouth. âImpossible! Theyâre practically family. Plus, like Belinda herself mentioned, Mr. Thomas is taken! And letâs not forget that Belinda is married. She shouldnât be eyeing other men, should she?â
Lillie let out a cold laugh. âAnd whatâs so odd about that? Some people just canât seem to settle for what they have!â Her expression hardened, her eyes flashing with disdain. âThen again, considering her motherâs notorious reputation, what else could we expect? Since her mother was a mistress, how could Belinda be any different from her mother?â
Kylee stayed silent.
