Chapter 131
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âIndeed, who would have imagined Belinda becoming so close to the Thomas family? Santino and his wife practically treat her as their daughter now,â said one of the people present.
âThings have really changed now. No one dares mess with Belinda,â another added.
âExactly. Those who have offended her havenât fared well.â
âDid you guys know about Belindaâs sister, Kylee? She was out to dinner with some friends who began badmouthing Belinda in the restroom. Coincidentally, Belinda was there as well and heard everything. It turned into quite the spectacle. Belinda made those women slap themselves until she felt they had been sufficiently punished. By the time they left the restroom, they were all hiding behind masks, likely because their faces were too swollen to show.â
Lucasâs expression darkened slightly upon hearing this.
He knew Belinda well enough to suspect there was more to the story.
âIsnât Belinda just abusing her power? Just because sheâs the goddaughter of the head of the Thomas family doesnât give her the right to do that!â one person commented, visibly annoyed.
âThatâs right! She has taken it way too far this time.â
Johnson was about to defend Belinda, believing there had to be more to the story, when a stern voice interjected, âHold off on judging until you know the whole story.â
After Lucas finished speaking, the room fell into stunned silence.
Everyone exchanged glances, seemingly unable to comprehend that Lucas had actually spoken up for Belinda.
In the past, no matter how much they had criticized or ridiculed Belinda, Lucas had always remained indifferent. But nowâ¦
Verenaâs eyes fixed on Lucas, a swirl of emotions rising within her.
Lucasâ attitude toward Belinda had shifted, and he was actually defending her!
This change left Verena feeling uneasy, a sharp pang of discomfort twisting in her chest.
One of the men who had been badmouthing Belinda earlier quickly cleared his throat, his voice nervous. âY-Yes, please forgive me, Mr. Clark. I shouldnât have talked about Belinda like that.â
Lucas dismissed him with a cold glance and then nonchalantly took a sip of his drink.
The room fell into an awkward silence.
But just as the tension thickened, another man broke the quiet.
âSpeaking of Belinda, I actually heard something about her recently,â he began, his voice full of intrigue. âDidnât she join the Cardiac Surgery Department at the Grand Plains General Hospital? Well, rumor has it she got in through her connection with the deputy director of the hospital. Apparently, the deputy director bent the rules for her. Normally, everyone has to pass entrance exams to work there, but Belinda bypassed all that and landed a permanent position as a resident doctor.â
âYeah, I heard the same thing from my uncle-in-law working there,â Ryan said, his voice cool. âBelindaâs sister, Kylee, is my uncle-in-lawâs student. Even though she works at the Grand Plains General Hospital, sheâs still just an intern there since she didnât pass the exam.â
The rules at that hospital are strict, but Belinda? She just waltzed in, no exam, and with the deputy directorâs assistant escorting her on her first day.â
