Chapter 1160
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius
With her part in the plot exposed, she wasnât about to shoulder all the blame alone.
Why should she face all the consequences by herself anyway?
âSarai, how could you say something like that?â Holley exclaimed, her voice laced with fury.
Sarai looked up defiantly. âHolley, stop putting on an act! Belinda and Mr. Clark were onto our plan from the start! Do you think denying it will make any difference now?â
Holleyâs body swayed, her face set in a grim line, turmoil evident in her eyes.
She turned to face Belinda. âBelindaâ¦â
But Belinda cut her off sharply, her expression indifferent, saying, âIâd like to hear you explain yourself now.â
âIâ¦â Holley struggled to form a coherent sentence, her voice faltering under the weight of the moment.
After a brief silence, she finally let out a resigned sigh. âI was wrongâ¦â
âWhy?â Belindaâs tone remained calm, yet there was an undeniable edge to it.
Holley bit her lower lip, hesitating before she spoke again. âI just didnât want you to be with Mr. Clark! Belinda, youâve already endured so much heartache because of him. I couldnât bear to see you suffer the same pain all over again. So, Iâ¦â
She swallowed, her throat dry. âI knew Sarai had feelings for Mr. Clark. I thought that if she and Lucas slept with each other, you would eventually walk away from him! That way, Belinda, you wouldnât have to experience more heartbreak.â
Hearing Holleyâs hypocritical justification, Belinda felt a wave of revulsion rise within her.
How could she dare to frame such a despicable matter as an act of protection? This was absurd.
Lucas, who had been sitting silently on the sofa, suddenly stood up. His cold gaze locked onto Holley as he strode toward her.
âHolley, do you honestly believe Iâm that easy to deceive?â
His piercing eyes then shifted to Sarai, who was still slumped on the floor.
âOr should I resort to⦠other means to get the truth out of you?â
With a sharp motion, he kicked Sarai aside before turning back to Belinda. Taking her hand in his, he guided her to the sofa to sit down, knowing all too well that she was not in a good place emotionally.
Sarai, wincing in pain, knew she couldnât hide the truth anymore. Panic seized her.
âNo, no! Iâll talk! Iâll tell you everything!â
She gulped before continuing. âI blackmailed Holley! I told her she had no choice but to help me, or Iâd expose her secret!â
âSarai!â Holleyâs face twisted in fury.
Lucasâs expression remained unreadable. âWhat secret?â His voice was dangerously low.
âDonât you dare tell him anything!â Holley shouted, her panic escalating.
But Sarai no longer cared. She was determined to save herself.
âI was little. I went to Belindaâs house to play, and I saw Holley embracing a man. They were acting far too close!â
âShut up! Shut your mouth!â Holleyâs face contorted with rage, her entire body trembling.
But in truth, this story was something she and Sarai had fabricated in advance.
They knew their plan carried enormous risks, and failure was a possibility.
