Chapter 1146
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âI did.â Belinda gave a small nod before tilting her head slightly. âIs that why youâre upset?â
Lucasâ expression darkened, his frustration barely contained. âYouâve been going to see him twice a day for the past several days. Every visit lasts over half an hour. On top of that, youâve been personally arranging for the kitchen to send him special meals and nutritious soups daily.â
He exhaled sharply, his voice carrying an edge. âYouâre taking such good care of him, treating him like heâs someone incredibly important to you. Have you ever stopped to think about how that makes me feel? Did it ever cross your mind that I might be jealous?â
Belinda let out a breath, pressing her lips together as she tried to reason with Lucas. âLucas, Darwin was injured because of me. Heâs lying in a hospital bed for saving my life. Isnât it only right that I check in on him regularly?â Her voice remained steady.
After a pause, she continued, âAnd the food? I just want him to heal faster; thatâs all.â
Lucasâ gaze remained cold. âI know he saved you. I havenât forgotten that, and I wonât. Iâll repay that debt for you.â
Belinda sighed, rubbing her temples. âYes, youâve said that. But just because you intend to repay him in your own way, does that mean I should just ignore him altogether? Pretend nothing happened? You know me better than anyone, Lucas. Do you really think Iâm the kind of person who would be that ungrateful?â
Lucasâ jaw tightened. âThis isnât about being ungrateful. Itâs about keeping boundaries.â
Belindaâs expression darkened at that. âBoundaries? Darwin and I are friends, nothing more. What kind of âboundariesâ do you think Iâm crossing?â
Her eyes locked onto his, her tone sharpening. âLucas, what exactly are you implying? Do you actually suspect that thereâs something improper going on between Darwin and me? Is that how you see me?â
As the words left her lips, the air between them grew heavier.
âOf course not!â Lucas immediately replied. And he meant it.
He also knew that Belinda only loved him.
But he knew Darwin had feelings for Belinda. That much was obvious. And watching her devote so much time and attention to another manâit made his blood boil with anger.
Lucas exclaimed, âI donât care! From now on, youâre not allowed to visit him anymore.â
Before she could protest, he added, âIf youâre worried about his condition, Iâll go check on him for you.â
Belindaâs temper flared instantly. âAbsolutely not!â
Now, it wasnât just Lucas who was upsetâshe was also angry.
Lucasâ expression darkened further at her immediate refusal.
He clenched his jaw, his frustration bubbling over. âI said what I said. This isnât up for discussion,â he stated firmly.
Belinda shot up from the couch, her hands balled into fists as she glared at him. âLucas, youâre being completely irrational!â
Lucasâ anger spiked. She was actually calling him irrational because of Darwin?
Lucas stood as well. âOh, Iâm being irrational? Fine, Belinda. Let me show you what being truly irrational looks like.â
Before she could react, he bent down and effortlessly threw her over his shoulder.
Belinda yelped, caught off guard by the sudden movement. âLucas, what are you doing?â
