Chapter 1137
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âAlright.â Belinda nodded.
After finishing breakfast, they set off for the Grand Plains General Hospital. Upon their arrival, they learned that Darwin had already been moved to a regular ward.
When they entered Darwinâs hospital room, he was already awake.
His eyes brightened when he saw Belinda.
He was relieved to see that she was alright.
However, his expression returned to one of calm when he noticed Lucas standing next to Belinda.
âDarwin, how are you feeling now?â Belinda asked with concern as she approached his bedside.
Darwin smiled slightly, his voice calm yet tinged with fatigue. âIâm alright now. The pain flared up once the anesthesia wore off, but aside from that, thereâs nothing to worry about.â
After a brief pause, his gaze softened as he looked at Belinda. âWhat about you? Are you feeling any discomfort?â
Belinda offered a reassuring smile. âIâm fine.â
A subtle hint of relief washed over Darwinâs face. âThatâs good to hear.â
Lucas, standing to the side, clenched his jaw, his expression darkening with frustration.
He finally spoke, his voice carrying a deliberate edge. âMr. Lambert, I sincerely appreciate what you did last night. Thank you for rescuing my girlfriend. I owe you a great debt.â
He deliberately stressed the words âmy girlfriend,â making it clear to Darwin that Belinda was his.
He also took the debt of gratitude upon himself.
Darwinâs eyes darkened for a fraction of a second before he replied evenly, âThereâs no need for such formalities. The truth is, Belinda got caught up in the Williamson familyâs mess because of me. Since this situation started because of me, I have a duty to put an end to it.â
His gaze flickered with something unreadable before he continued, âIâve already caused Ms. Wright enough trouble. If I had let her be harmed by Rhys because of me, I would never be able to forgive myself.â
He turned toward Belinda, his voice steady. âSo you donât need to carry any guilt.â
Hearing that, Belinda hesitated.
She took a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking. âEven so, you saved my life, and thatâs undeniable. If it werenât for you, my life would have been in danger last night.â
She met his gaze with sincerity. âDarwin, thank you.â
For a moment, Darwin said nothing. He simply held her gaze.
He was relieved that Rhysâ target included both him and Belinda, which was the reason he had been summoned to the scene last night.
Otherwise, if Belinda had been hurt because of him, he wasnât sure if he could ever live with it.
When he had arrived on the scene last night, there had been only one thought racing through his mindâno matter what happened, he could not let Belinda get hurt.
After a few beats of silence, Darwin exhaled softly and offered a small smile. âYouâre welcome.â
Lucas, watching the exchange, felt his irritation spike. His sharp eyes bore into Darwin, his instincts confirming what he had already suspectedâDarwin hadnât risked his life for Belinda just out of obligation.
