Chapter 1126
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

She said, âThese past few days, weâve been in the hospital together, taking care of Kenia. And in all that time, she never once made an effort to speak to meâshe outright ignored me. If she truly wanted to apologize to me, sheâs had more than enough chances already. But Iâve yet to see a single sign that she actually wants to apologize.â
Lucas arched an eyebrow. âSo what was her intention, putting on that act in front of me?â
Belindaâs eyes narrowed ever so slightly. âThat depends⦠on whether she seeks you out again.â
At her words, a flicker of impatience flashed through Lucasâs dark gaze.
The following day.
After spending some time with Kenia in the ward, Belinda made her way to the Cardiac Surgery Department to begin her shift.
Once she had completed her rounds and returned to her office, she had just sat down when a nurse approached her.
Belinda lifted her brows in surprise upon recognizing the nurse.
This nurse was not from the Cardiac Surgery Department but from Neurosurgery.
Why was she here at this hour? Had something happened to Kenia?
A sudden pang of unease seized Belindaâs chest. Before the nurse could utter a word, she anxiously inquired, âGloria, is my grandmotherââ
Before she could finish her sentence, Gloria Aston swiftly reassured her, âDr. Wright, donât worry. Your grandmother is recovering well. I actually came to speak with you about something else. Do you have a moment?â
Belinda exhaled quietly, the tension ebbing away from her shoulders. She gave a nod. âAlright, letâs step outside and talk.â
âOkay,â Gloria replied.
The two of them exited the office, heading toward the hospitalâs garden, where the space provided a measure of privacy against prying ears.
Once they stopped walking, Belinda turned to Gloria. âWhat is it you wanted to tell me?â
Gloria hesitated for a moment, pressing her lips together as if debating how to begin. After a while, she said, âYesterday, I overheard something by chance. After mulling it over, I felt you should know.â
She took a breath before continuing, recounting everything she had accidentally overheardâthe conversation between Lucas and Holley, and later, after Lucas had left, the hushed discussion that took place between Holley and Sarai.
After that, Gloria explained, âAt the time, I was in the adjacent ward taking a patientâs temperature. Just as I was about to step out, I overheard Mr. Clark talking to Holley. At that moment, stepping out would have been too awkward, so I remained where I was. Thatâs how I happened to hear everything. Something about your motherâs conversation with Sarai felt⦠off. Like there was more to it than what was being said. So I thought it best to bring it to your attention.â
She had come to tell Belinda this partly as a way to earn her favor.
Belinda lowered her gaze, her long lashes veiling the emotions flickering in her eyes.
After several seconds of contemplation, she looked up once more, pressed her lips together, and nodded. âI understand. Thank you for telling me this.â
Gloria offered a small smile. âIt was nothing. I just thought you should know. Iâll head back now.â
âI appreciate it,â Belinda said.
Only after Gloriaâs figure disappeared from sight did Belindaâs expression shift, her face clouding over.
