Chapter 1113
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Jazmine chuckled and didnât press the matter further.
After dinner, they took a stroll around the neighborhood. Just as they were returning home, Belindaâs phone rangâit was Lucas calling. He told Belinda he was coming to pick her up. She didnât refuse.
When Lucas arrived, Belinda was about to head to the door to leave alone, but Rowell and Jazmine insisted on accompanying her. They wanted to see Lucas.
As soon as Lucas saw them with Belinda, he immediately understoodâthese were the mentor and his wife Belinda had mentioned. He walked over without hesitation and greeted them respectfully.
Rowell remained silent at first, his gaze sweeping over Lucas with a sharp, assessing look.
Even with a critical eye, he had to admitâLucas was remarkable. Jazmine, on the other hand, was far less reserved. âWhat a handsome young man!â she exclaimed. She had to admit, Lucas looked far more refined now than he had three years ago.
Finally, Rowell spoke, his tone serious. âWeâve always considered Belinda family. Now that sheâs chosen to be with you again, we will support her decision. But understand thisâwe expect you to treat her well. Donât let her get hurt again.â
Lucas met his gaze and nodded solemnly. âYou have my wordâI will do everything in my power to protect her.â
Rowell studied him for a moment longer before giving a short nod. âGood.â
Back in the car, Lucas seemed lost in thought, his brow slightly furrowed. He felt that Belindaâs mentor looked somewhat familiar, but he couldnât quite remember where he had seen him before.
Belinda noticed Lucasâ demeanor and asked, âWhat are you thinking about?â
Lucas replied, âYour mentor⦠He looks familiar. I feel like Iâve met him before.â
Belindaâs expression flickered ever so slightly when she heard that.
Belinda smiled gently and replied, âOh, I think you might have confused him with someone else. Heâs just an elderly man who hardly ever leaves his home. How could you possibly have crossed paths with him before? Besides, my mentor has one of those ordinary faces. Itâs not surprising if you mistake him for someone else.â
Belinda wasnât intentionally keeping secrets from Lucas. The truth was that her mentor preferred to keep his past identity a secret. These days, he sought nothing more than a quiet, uneventful life.
âIs that so?â Lucas blinked, his tone tinged with doubt.
âOf course,â Belinda replied firmly.
Lucas nodded, deciding not to dwell on the matter. After a brief pause, he asked, âIs your mentor a doctor as well?â
Belinda didnât hesitate. âYes, he is. I studied medicine under him since I was a child.â
âI see,â Lucas murmured, realization dawning on him. âThen your grandmother and Holley must know your mentor and his wife quite well, donât they?â
To his surprise, Belinda shook her head. âNo, they donât. They donât even know them.â
Hearing this answer, Lucas was taken aback.
Belindaâs gaze dropped, her voice softening. âBecause when I was young, Holley didnât want me to learn anything beyond the basics. She said she didnât want me to be burdened; she just wanted me to be happy every day. As for education, she told me it was fine if I learned, but it didnât matter if I didnât. She said sheâd take care of me for the rest of my life, no matter what.â
Lucas frowned deeply, his expression darkening. That kind of parenting wasnât good at all. What kind of parent wouldnât want their child to grow into a well-rounded, capable individual? Yet Holley had discouraged Belinda from learning more things. Even when it came to Belindaâs education, Holley seemed indifferent about it. This was the first time Lucas had learned someone would raise a child like that.
