Chapter 1109
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

After having lunch with Lucas, Belinda headed to the Grand Plains General Hospital to spend the afternoon with her grandmother.
Later that day, in a private dining room of an upscale restaurant, Kane leaned back in his chair, one eyebrow arching with curiosity as he looked at Lucas, who sat opposite him.
âLucas, whatâs this about? You donât usually invite me out for pleasantries,â Kane said.
Lucas wasted no time on small talk. His gaze was sharp, his words precise. âDiegoâyou bribed him, didnât you?â
At the mention of that name, Kaneâs fingers momentarily tensed around his glass. His eyes flickered briefly, but he quickly composed himself.
Feigning ignorance, he furrowed his brows and asked, âWho the hell is Diego?â
Lucas exhaled a cold, humorless chuckle.
The brief shift in Kaneâs expression hadnât gone unnoticed. Lucas had always been a master at reading people, and Kaneâs reaction had already given him away.
Fixing Kane with an unyielding stare, Lucas leaned forward slightly. âKane, have I been too lenient with you lately? Have you forgotten the methods I used in the past? Or perhaps the lesson from three years ago wasnât painful enough for you?â His voice was calm, but the underlying threat was evident.
The mention of the past sent a jolt of rage through Kane.
Who did Lucas think he was? He had endured more than Lucas ever had. And yet, here Lucas was, talking down to him like this!
Clenching his jaw, Kane shot Lucas a glare. âLucas, I have no idea what youâre accusing me of. I donât even know who this Diego is! I get that you donât like me, but that doesnât give you the right to randomly pin accusations on me!â His voice was laced with feigned indignation, each word carefully measured.
Lucas didnât believe him at all.
He leaned back in his chair. âYou really thought that using untraceable prepaid phones and anonymous accounts would be enough to cover your tracks?â His eyes darkened, a lethal edge creeping into his tone as he delivered his final warning. âKane, since youâve chosen to make your move, donât blame me for showing you no mercy now!â
When Kane heard that, his expression shifted slightly.
His eyes darkened as he took a deep breath, his voice laced with frustration. âLucas, I have no idea what youâre talking about!â
Lucas remained unmoved. His tone was cold and menacing. âYouâll find out soon enough.â
Without another word, he rose from the sofa and walked out, not sparing Kane a second glance.
Kane furrowed his brows as he watched Lucas leave.
A sense of unease settled over him.
What had Lucas uncovered? Why was Lucas so certain he was involved in this matter?
Judging by the look in Lucasâ eyes, he believed Lucas wouldnât let this go easily.
Lucas was definitely planning to take action against him.
Kane found himself wondering what Lucas would do to target him.
Back in his office, Lucas wasted no time. He called Gordon in and gave a direct order. âI want a full report on Kaneâs assetsâpublic holdings, hidden investments, offshore accounts⦠I want everything.â
Gordon nodded without hesitation. âUnderstood. Iâll get someone on it immediately.â
