Chapter 1100
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius
âAlright,â she said. âTalk. What do you want from me?â
Timothy flashed a knowing smile, cutting straight to the chase. âItâs nothing too serious, really. Iâve just hit a bit of a financial rough patch lately, so I figured Iâd find you and ask if you could lend me some money.â
Holleyâs expression soured instantly.
Her instincts had been spot on!
The sudden appearance of this manâthere was no way he had come to her with good intentions.
And now, her fears were confirmed. He wanted money from her.
âI donât have money to give you!â Holley said without hesitation.
After a brief pause, she added, âYou know how things were for my family back then. We were never well-off.â
Timothy let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. âMs. Lewis, do you take me for a fool? More than twenty years ago, you could effortlessly pull out hundreds of thousands to bribe me. And now, suddenly, you expect me to believe youâre poor? Do you really think Iâd fall for that?â
Holleyâs body tensed, her mind racing to formulate a response. But before she could utter a word, Timothy continued, his voice laced with amusement, âEven if youâre struggling, your daughter certainly isnât. Sheâs now the youngest attending physician in the Cardiac Surgery Department at the Grand Plains General Hospital. Someone with a career like that couldnât possibly be strapped for cash. Why donât you just ask her for some money?â
Holleyâs face turned ashen.
Timothy even knew about that!
That meant he had either been keeping tabs on her for a long time or had done his homework before coming to her. Either way, it was a troubling revelation.
After a long silence, Holley finally muttered, âYou donât understand. My daughter and I arenât on speaking terms right now. She wonât even talk to me, let alone lend me money. If I were to ask her for money, sheâd flat-out refuse.â
Timothy feigned an understanding nod, a smirk playing on his lips. âOh, I see. Thatâs unfortunate. Well then, I wonât make things difficult for you.â
A fleeting sense of relief washed over Holley. Just as she was about to speak, Timothy continued, âIn that case, Iâll just ask Dr. Wright myself. Iâm sure sheâll be more than willing to help me.â
With that, he stood up and turned to leave.
âStop right there!â Holley called out, panic seeping into her voice.
Timothy halted mid-step, turning back with a self-satisfied grin. âSomething wrong, Ms. Lewis? Have you had a change of heart?â
Holleyâs fists clenched beneath the table. Her jaw tightened. âHow much do you want?â
She knew that he wasnât really asking her to lend him money; he was asking her to give him money. If she handed him money, he would never return it.
Hearing her question, Timothy leisurely sank back onto the sofa. âNot muchâjust five hundred thousand.â
Holley sucked in a sharp breath, her nails digging into her palm.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to remain calm. âI donât have that kind of money available right now. Give me some time.â
âTwo days,â Timothyâs tone left no room for negotiation. âIf you donât give me the money by then, Iâll have no choice but to pay Dr. Wright a visit.â
Holley glared at him, her hatred for the man deepening. âFine! Two days it is. But this must be the last time! There will be no next time. Do you understand?â
