Chapter 1090
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Yet, the once-flavorful pasta now tasted bland.
Johnson cast a fleeting glance at Catherine, the corners of his lips subtly curling upward. His mood was good.
The following day, Belinda had originally planned to return to the hospital the previous night, but Lucas had stopped her.
Since Belinda had received the first devastating diagnosis, restful sleep had become a luxury she could no longer afford.
But now, with the weight of the illness lifted from her shoulders, Belinda could finally rest easy. Lucas had insisted she take the night to rest at home before heading back to the hospital.
After some thought, Belinda had agreed.
The morning was uneventfulâBelinda and Lucas woke up, got prepared for the day, and finished breakfast. Just as they were about to leave, Lucasâ phone rang.
It was Gordon calling.
Whatever was said on the other end of the line made Lucasâ expression darken in an instant.
A few seconds later, he responded in a voice laced with steel, âTake the person to the company. Weâll be there shortly.â
Ending the call, he turned to Belinda. âTheyâve caught the one responsible for tampering with your test results. We need to go to the company now.â
Belinda froze momentarily but quickly nodded, her expression serious. âAlright.â

During the drive, Belinda didnât ask Lucas about the culpritâs identity.
Upon arriving, they strode directly into the reception room of the CEOâs office. Soon, Gordon entered, guiding a man inside.
Belindaâs breath hitched the moment her eyes fell upon the man. Her pupils contracted slightly, a flicker of disbelief flashing across her face.
âDr. Alvarado?â she called out.
Standing before them was none other than Diego Alvarado, the director of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Grand Plains General Hospital.
Diegoâs face was a mask of desperation, his voice trembling as he spoke. âMr. Clark, Dr. Wright, please, I know what I did was wrong! But I was left with no choice!â
His panic-stricken eyes darted between them as he continued, his words spilling out in a frantic rush. âMy sonâheâs reckless, a gambler, and on top of that, he was tricked! He owed five million in high-interest loans. They threatened to cut off his right hand if I didnât pay up within an hour! If that happens, my son will be ruined!â
A shudder ran through him as he swallowed hard. âIâm just a doctor. Even with my position at the Grand Plains General, five million is an impossible sum for me. Then⦠Then I received a call from an unknown number. The voice on the other end told me that if I did them a favor, the debt would vanish.â
His face contorted with regret. âAll they wanted was for me to personally handle Dr. Wrightâs blood test. If the result was negative, they ordered me to switch it to positive. That was it.â
He paused, scanning Belindaâs and Lucasâs faces before continuing, his voice cracking. âI knew it was wrong. I knew I was making a grave mistake. But as a father⦠I was left with no choice at that time. My son may be foolish, naive enough to be manipulated, but heâs still my child. What was I supposed to do? Dr. Wright, Mr. Clark, I beg youâI know I was wrong! Please, forgive me just this once!â
Tears welled in Diegoâs eyes as he broke down.
