Chapter 1087
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

They then chatted about other topics for a while.
After dropping Catherine off at her home, Belinda rejoined Lucas in the car.
âWhatâs your take on the matter?â she asked.
Lucas responded, âCatherine isnât completely unaffected by the matter. She definitely cares about Johnsonâs new relationship with Zoie.â
Belinda nodded in agreement. âI think so, too. Despite her composed exterior, her fleeting expressions and the look in her eyes betray her feelings. There might still be a chance for her and Johnson.â This thought made Belinda feel a surge of happiness.
However, Lucas looked at her, his tone dampening her spirits. âDonât get your hopes up. Even if Catherine harbors feelings for Johnson, itâs complicated. Theyâre adopted siblings, which is a significant barrier for them to be together. And then thereâs also Johnsonâs mother. If she finds out about this, it will only complicate matters further.â
Belinda sighed, her enthusiasm waning.
She rolled her eyes at Lucas and chided, âCan you not be such a killjoy?â
Lucas merely shrugged, his expression one of feigned innocence.
Johnson drove Zoie to her place.
âThank you for today,â he said.
Just then, Zoie asked unexpectedly, âJohnson, the person you have feelings forâ¦
She was at the dinner table tonight, right?â
Johnson froze for a moment, caught off guard by the question.
He hadnât expected Zoie to pick up on that.
âYeah,â he admitted without hesitation, nodding.
Zoieâs expression tensed slightly.
She hadnât expected it to actually be true.
So, he really did have feelings for someone.
She bit her lip for a moment, but after a brief pause, she quickly masked her reaction with a bright smile. âOh, I see! That makes sense. After all, we agreed from the start that this was just for show, to keep our families off our backs. Now, I understand why you suddenly wanted me to meet your friends today.â
Johnson pressed his lips together, offering no response.
Zoie waited for a beat before adding, âDo you need me to do anything to help you?â
Johnson shook his head. âNo, you donât need to do anything.â
âGot it.â Zoie nodded, dropping the subject.
After a couple of seconds, she spoke up again. âBy the way, are you and Catherine cousins?â
The question wasnât random. She knew Johnson had a younger sister named Eliana, and earlier, when he had introduced Catherine, he had mentioned she was his family.
âSheâs my adopted sister. My dad took her in when she was a kid. Weâre not biologically related,â Johnson explained.
The moment those words left Johnsonâs mouth, Zoieâs expression shifted.
But just as quickly as it changed, she smiled again. âAh, I see! Alright then, Iâll head back inside now. Let me know if you ever need me to play the part again.â
Johnson gave her a small nod. âThanks.â
The moment Zoie stepped out of the car, Johnson drove away without looking back.
