Chapter 1042
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Bakerâs face flushed with fury, his expression darkening like a storm cloud.
Lucas said he was being lenient?
Holley had nearly been choked to death!
Lucas stood up from the couch, his tall frame looming over Holley. His sharp eyes glinted with a cold intensity as he spoke. âHolley, from this moment on, keep your distance from Belinda.â
The weight of his presence was overwhelming, like an immovable force crushing down on Holley, leaving her breathless.
A suffocating dread surged through her once more, paralyzing her.
Then, Lucas added, his voice low and icy, âYouâd better be telling the truth about the sleepwalking. If I find out thatâs not true, I will make you wish you were dead.â
Though his tone was calm, each word carried a chilling threat that sent shivers down Holleyâs spine.
Without another word, he turned and strode out of the room, Gordon trailing closely behind.
It wasnât until the front door clicked shut that Baker finally felt the tension in his chest ease, his racing heart beginning to slow.
His face was pale.
Holley, meanwhile, gasped for air, coughing violently between ragged breaths, her face white.
Baker walked to the door, checking the video intercom to confirm Lucasâ car had driven away. Only then did he let out a sigh of relief and return to the living room, his frustration boiling over as he scolded Holley.
âHow many times have I warned you to think before you act? But did you listen? You actually faked sleepwalking just to attack Belinda? Are you out of your mind? Look at the mess youâre in now! Not only did you put yourself at risk of infection, but you also nearly got yourself strangled to death! And now Lucas is even more suspicious of you. Tell me, was it worth it?â
Bakerâs voice rose as he vented his anger, unable to hold back any longer.
Holley continued to cough for a while, struggling to catch her breath.
Finally, she managed to speak, her voice hoarse. âEvery time I think about what Kylee is enduring, I just⦠I canât help myself! My only regret is that I didnât squeeze harder and kill Belinda right then and there!â
Baker glared at her, his tone cutting. âDid you kill her? No! Then what was the point? Youâve only made things worseâfor yourself and for all of us!â
Holley didnât respond, her coughing fit continuing.
After a while, Holley suddenly thought of something and let out a cold chuckle. âBelinda isnât even your biological daughter. Why should you care about her?â
âShut up!â Baker snapped, his face hardening instantly. âDonât you dare bring that up again!â
Before Holley could reply, he said, âFor now, stay away from Belinda. Donât go near her again. Just stay here and reflect on what youâve done wrong!â
With that, he turned and marched upstairs.
Holley slammed her fist into the sofa, her face contorted with rage.
The throbbing pain in her neck was a brutal reminder of what had just happened.
Lucas was ruthless.
For a moment, she had truly believed Gordon would strangle her to death.
That crushing sense of suffocating despair⦠She never wanted to feel it again.
In the afternoon, two unexpected visitors arrived at Belindaâs place.
