Chapter 1038
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Lucasâ expression turned even colder. His voice dropped to a warning. âDonât make me say that again.â
His sharp eyes locked onto hers, his tone laced with an unspoken threat. âOr would you rather I throw you out myself?â
Holleyâs face went pale. She turned to Belinda. âBelinda, what do you want me to do?â
Belinda hesitated, then finally spoke. âYou can go home. Iâm fine here.â
Holleyâs brows drew together, her sorrow deepening. âEven youâ¦â Her voice wavered. âFine. If you wonât believe me, then what more is there for me to say? Iâll go, alright? Iâll leave!â
By the time the last words left her lips, her voice was thick with suppressed sobs.
With that, she turned and hurried upstairs.
Lucas didnât spare Holley another glance. He took Belindaâs hand and guided her back to her room.
Seated beside her on the couch, he reached out, his fingers gently touching her neck, his face full of concern. âDoes it still hurt?â His touch was light, as if he were handling something fragile and precious.
Belinda shook her head. âIt doesnât hurt anymore.â
But in reality, the pain still lingered. She just didnât want Lucas to worry about her.
Lucasâ face was grim. âWhat exactly happened last night? Tell me everything.â
Belinda hesitated, then slowly recounted everything.
As she spoke, Lucasâ expression darkened, a storm brewing beneath the surface.
His hands clenched into fists, his gaze flickering with restrained fury. After a pause, Belinda asked, âDo you remember I told you about Holleyâs sleepwalking before?â Lucas gave a slight nod. âYeah.â
Belinda exhaled shakily, lowering her gaze. âTo be honest, I donât know if she was really sleepwalking orâ¦â
Belinda took a deep breath and continued, âLast night, when she was strangling me, her grip was so strong. For a moment, I actually thought she was going to kill me.â
Lucasâ face darkened further, his fury evident.
Without a word, he pulled Belinda into his arms.
He knew how hard this must be for Belinda.
Her own mother had nearly killed herâ¦
âIâm okay,â Belinda murmured in his embrace.
A beat of silence passed before Lucas spoke again. âStarting today, Iâll live here with you.â
Belindaâs head snapped up, her eyes widening.
She blinked at Lucas in disbelief. âWhat did you say? You want to move here and live with me? What for?â
âTo stay by your side,â Lucas said. âI am worried about you.â
Belinda immediately replied, âThereâs no need for that. Margie is here with me.â
âThatâs not enough. Iâll still worry about you,â Lucas said firmly. His decision was final.
