Chapter 13

Recap

(Parts in bold is me telling you something that happened instead of me coping and pasting everything as that would be too long)

Ellie gets invited to a barbecue with her coworker Warren, so she asks Savanna to go shopping with her so she can get new a new dress and swim suit since Warren has a pool.

While they were out shopping, they stopped to get food and they were talking about Ellie and Kai's confusing relationship. And an old woman tried to give Ellie some advice

(The conversation)

"Excuse me, I'm sorry I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. If you ask me I'd say that you and this boy your talking about are meant to be together, it's like fate is drawing you two together" an old woman cuts into our conversation, I look down at her and smile, she must be at least in her late 60s. "I'm sorry for interrupting and butting into your conversation, but take it from someone who knows, it's hard to find Love and from what I heard. You and this boy can't seem to stay away from each other, maybe that's god telling you that yous shouldn't be away from one another" she tells me "Darling, your still so young, don't be afraid to take risks if it doesn't work out you still have your whole life ahead of you and then you'll know not to make the same mistake again. But if it does work it, you don't want to leave it too late"

Before she could say anything else a little boy runs over to her "Grandma, come on! We are going to be late for our movie!" He exclaims grabbing her hand and trying to get her to move

"I'm sorry dear, I have to go but think about what I said" she says before patting my arm and walking away

"Okay that was weird" Savannah states after she was gone

"Yeah I agree, but she was so cute. Maybe she's right?" I ask

"Yeah, maybe she's your fairy god mother looking over you and giving you advice to make sure you make the right decision" Savannah mocks, I roll my eyes but don't say anything else as out food comes.

Bikini shopping

"Where are you going again?" Savannah asks as I pick up another bikini that I thought was cute

"My coworker invited me to his barbecue he's having on Saturday" I tell her for the 3rd time

"Uh huh, and this is a boy friend?" She clarifies

"Yeah"  I reply

"I think you should reconsider all these bikinis, they are very cute and sexy and you don't want to give anyone the wrong ideas" She says

"That's you trying to say that Kai won't appreciate me wearing these around other men isn't it?" I ask her

"Maybe, you know what he's like. He will get annoyed or jealous. Or maybe even both" she says

"Yeah your right, he probably will but then I'll just have to tell him that this is my body and I can wear whatever I like. It's not like he's my boyfriend, we are taking it slow and it's not like i'm going to be naked, plus I'm going their as a friend. I'm not going to get myself a boyfriend" I tell her "oh and I'm pretty sure that Warren is gay" I tell her

"Fair play, do what makes you happy and your right, your not naked and you can wear what you want!" Savannah agrees

Later on that night Ellie lays in bed and thinks about what the woman said to her

'Don't be afraid to take risks'

'What if it does work, don't leave it too late'

'Fate is pulling you two together'

One thing I do know is that I don't believe in fate. Fate has nothing to do with how me and Kai keep ending up together, it's because he's so annoying and won't leave. But part of me is glad, because I know deep down I do still really love him. Maybe that women is right, maybe we are supposed to be together.

Ellie's P.O.V

It's Saturday morning and I've just woke up, it's only 10am but I have to get up and go shopping since I decided yesterday I would have a chill out day instead of going shopping. I got up and went to get a shower, once I got out of the shower I throw on a pair of black ripped jeans and a pink T-shirt. Once I'm dressed I head downstairs and pour myself a bowl of cereal only to realise that my milk is out of date.

"Great" I mumble sarcastically

I empty out the milk carton into the sink and rinse the milk out of it before throwing it into my recycling bin.

"Guess I won't be having any breakfast" I say to myself after seeing the mouldy bread. I throw it onto the bin and then grab my purse and shopping list before heading out and walking to the shop.

£130 later I am walking back out of the supermarket with my hands full of shopping. I decided to phone Josh as I wouldn't be able to walk 30 minutes to my house with all this shopping. There's six bags and they are all pretty heavy. This is why I really need to get a car! I tell myself.

Josh doesn't pick up so I phone Marcus and ask him if he could come pick me up. When he doesn't answer either I phone Lucas. If he doesn't answer I'll just get a taxi. I say to myself however I don't need to as he actually answers his phone. I ask him if he can come and pick me up and he tells me he'll be here in 10 minutes, so I walk over to the bench and sit down to wait for him.

"Ellie?" A familiar voice calls out to me, I look up and gasp.

"Lily?" I ask, I stand up and walk over to her. "Woah you look so different" I say taking in her bright pink hair. "It suits you" I smile at her and give her a hug once I reach her. We make our way back over to the bench and sit back down.

"Thanks" she says "So where have you been? You never came back to work and I haven't seen you in years, I thought something bad had happened, and you never answered your phone" she says

"O-oh yeah sorry, I got a knew phone my old one broke" I lied dodging the question about where I was however that doesn't work as she decides to question me more

"Oh well why didn't you come back to work? When you weren't answering my calls and skipping work I knew something was wrong then Rachel stopped coming to work as well and my suspicions grew even more so I went by your place and none of yous were there. I was so worried. I didn't know what to do, I thought something bad had happened so I phoned the police, they didn't find any signs of struggle in your apartment and they traced both of your credit cards and everything but it was as if you'd both just vanished into thin air. So after 2 months they stopped their investigation...I-I thought yous were dead" she starts crying

Gosh I feel so bad, she was so worried, I mean who wouldn't be when two of your really good friends go missing without any explanation or trace of them. The problem here is I don't know what to tell her, I can't tell her the truth. That will only get her in trouble and I won't do that to her but I don't want to lie to her either. I have no choice I just don't know what to say. She's a smart girl and will probably see right through my lie.

"I'm so sorry lily, I never meant to scare you. None of us did" I say, trying to take as must time as possible to come up with a good enough excuse to where we were. Luckily for me a familiar car pulls up giving me the perfect excuse to dodge the question again.

"Hey, that's my ride. it was nice seeing you why don't you give me your number and we can catch up sometime?" I ask

"Oh sure"

We exchange numbers and then lily helps me carry my bags to Lucas's car. He climbs out and helps me put them in the boot. I can't help but notice the strange look lily is giving Lucas. Like she's trying to figure something out.

"You alright?" I ask, she snaps her head in my direction and nods with a smile.

"Yeah, I'm fine" she says "well I have to go, I'll see you around Ellie" she says before scurrying off

"Who was that?" Lucas asks once we get into the car

"An old friend" I reply

"Oh" is all he says and we fall into a comfortable silence

Once we get to my house Lucas helps me carry my bags into my kitchen

"Thanks for helping me in and for the ride" I say to him

"What's her name?"  He asks

"What?" I ask confused

"The girl with the pink hair, what's her name?" He clarifies

"Oh, her name is lily, why?" I ask, wondering why he is asking so many questions about her

His eyes widen when I tell him Lily's name and but he quickly composes himself and tries to change the subject. "So Kai is coming back tomorrow" he says

I ignore what he just said for now and decide to question why he acted so weird

"What was that?" I ask him "when I told you her name, why did you look so shocked?" I clarify "do you know her?" I question

"U-h yeah, years ago I haven't seen her since I was 16" he answers. "She hasn't changed a bit, well apart from the pink hair but I still knew it was her" he says

"How do you know her?" I ask him

"She's my Ex" he says

Now it's my turn to be surprised. "Lily, is your ex?"

"Yeah, we dated in high school for 4 months before that we were really good friends and then after we broke up we stopped talking to each other" he says  "then I moved and I never saw her again"

"Woah" is all I manage to say, not really sure what else to say I change the subject "hey so I'd offer you if you wanted something to drink or something but I really need to get ready to go out" I tell him

"No it's fine, don't worry I'll see you later. Have fun at your BBQ" he says

"Tha-wait how do you know I'm going to a barbecue?" I ask him

"Samantha and Rachel were talking about it and I just happened to overhear" he says

"Ah I see, and does anyone else know?" I ask

"Are you trying to ask me if I've told Kai?" He asks

"No...maybe...yes. It's not that I care, I mean we aren't together anymore well I don't think we are. It's not official but anyway wether we were in a relationship or not i can still go to a friends house. I told him that he can't keep being so controlling or else I'm done for good so I don't care if he knows I'm going either way" I say all in one breath. Once I'm finished I rake a deep breath and notice Lucas's amused face

"What?" I ask

"Nothing" he laughs "Anyway no, as far as I know Kai doesn't know. But maybe telling him would be so bad because if you don't tell him he might think you're trying to hide it then he will probably think that you're sneaking around with others behind his back and we both know he won't like that" he tells me

I understand where he's coming from but it's not like Kai needs to know every single thing I do. Maybe he's got a point though maybe I should just mention to Kai, but then he'll probably freak out over nothing and then we will probably start arguing. And I can't be bothered with all that hassle.

" i'm not telling him, there's no point. It will only end in an argument and I don't want to ruin the week that we have had without any arguments. Plus it's not like he's going to find out, if no one tells him or brings it up. Not that I'm trying to hide it from him. I'm not" I make my point and then check the time on my phone. "Shit, it's one o'clock, I have to go get ready" I tell him. "I'll see you later!" I say before running upstairs to get dressed.

I quickly go to my closet and pull out the dress I bought yesterday. I take off the clothes I'm wearing and put my dress on.

I then decide to braid my hair to the side. Once I'm finished I grab my new bikini out of my drawer and throw it into my mini backpack.

Once I'm ready to leave I text warren asking him for his address. I head downstairs and grab the chocolate brownies I bought at the shop today. I know he said not to bring anything but I couldn't just show up empty handed. I put the brownies in my bag along with my chapstick, hairbrush and purse. Warren texts me his address and then I phone a taxi.

"Thank you very much" I say to the taxi driver after paying him. I climb out of the car and walk over to Warrens door. I knock and wait for him to come answer. When no one answers I pull out my phone and text him, telling him I'm at his front door. A few moments later the door opens.

"You could have just walked in silly" Warren's sister, Emma smiles at me.

"I didn't want to be rude" I tell her

"Don't be silly" she says grabbing my arm and pulling me inside. She shuts the door behind us and leads the way to the back garden. There is about 10 people here. I spot warren over by the pool sitting with his feet in the pool beside two men. One either side of him, they are chatting away laughing at something one of them said. As if he senses me looking at him Warren looks over in my direction, once he sees me he smiles and waves me over. I tell Emma that I'm going to go say hi and she nods her head before walking over to a group of 2 girls and 3 boys. I walk over and stand at the other side of the pool facing Warren and the 2 guys.

"Hey" I smile once I reach the side of the pool

"Hey, glad you could make it" Warren says

"Yeah, me too, your house is so nice" I say taking in the large back garden and remembering what the small bit of the inside I saw looks like.

"Thank you" he smiles "oh by the way this is Michael, my boyfriend" he says leaning in to the boy on his right side with curly black hair on top of his head, he was cute, pity he's not into girls. What am I saying? I have a boyfriend, well kinda. "And this is my cousin Blake, he's the one that's going to be cooking the food, so if you get food poisoning it's on him" Warren says, Blake smacks warren at the back of his head and tells him he's an amazing cook. Warren nudges Michael lauding and they both start laughing causing Blake to glare at them both. I can tell they are all super close.

"Don't listen to anything they tell you, this will be the best BBQ you've ever had" Blake boosts, I smile at him while Warren snorts making Blake frown again and then push Warren into the pool. Warren swims back up and grabs Blake by his arm and drags him into the pool.

They both wrestle each other in the pool while Michael and I watch.

"Don't mind them they are always like this" Michael says

I laugh "they are like big children" I say

Michael agrees with a nod and we both laugh at them. I walk around and sit down near Michael. "I'm Ellie by the way" I tell him

"Nice to meet you" he says

"You too" I smile at him "so how long have you known Warren for?" I ask

"We have been dating abut a year now and have known each other about the same amount of time" he tells me "what about you?" He asks

"I've only known him now for like a week" I tell him "we met at work and just really got on" I say. "How did you two meet?" I ask him but a different voice answers

"The movies" Warren says Swimming over to the side of the pool beside us. "I was actually on a date when I met him, he was the person at the wee shop in the cinema" he tells me

"Oh, so then how did you two become friends or start dating?" I ask

"Well my date ended horribly, the guy was so annoying and talked during the whole movie about his cat, he literally interpreted anything I had to say and when I tried to kiss him he told me he wasn't gay. Like we literally met on a dating app for gay people. Anyway after that I got up and left without watching the rest of the movie and on my way out of the room believe it or not I fell into Michael sending us both flying to the ground. After that we both just started talking, we became good friends then when I found out he was gay I already knew I liked him and he said he liked me so we just starting dating" he says

"Wow, that's like so cliche, you literally fell for each other" I laugh they all join in

"I know, but I'm very thankful that date ending up going horribly wrong, otherwise I wouldn't have met this cutie" Warren says

Michael frowns "I told you to stop calling me that, it's weird" he says

"I don't care, it's the truth" Warren grins, obviously just trying to get a reaction from his boyfriend.

"Blake!" Emma calls from across the garden, "get the BBQ everybody is starving!" She scolds

"Yes Ma'am" Blake mocks before climbing out of the pool and heading over to the BBQ stand.

"Oh, I know you said not to bring anything but I couldn't help myself. I brought brownies" I say to Warren

"Oh thank you very much, you didn't have to but I appreciate it anyway" he smiles

"Yeah. They are in the kitchen, I left them there on the way in" I tell him

"Cool, so do yous want to get in the pool now or wait until after we eat?" He asks

"It's probably better if he get in now, that way we will work up an appetite, you know what it's like when you get out of the pool your always hungry" Michael says

"Yeah I agree, Ellie did you bring a swimsuit?" Warren asks me

"Yeah, Ill go get changed into it now. Where's your bathroom?" I ask

Warren directs me to the bathroom and I change into my new bikini. Once I'm ready I fold my dress and put it into my backpack. I then walk out of the bathroom and leave my bag in the kitchen on my way back out to the pool. Everyone is around the pool now, some inside but others just sitting at the side with their feet in. I go and sit down next to Michael again.

"I love your bikini" one of the girls in the pool says to me

"Oh thanks" I smile at her

"I'm Jess" she introduces herself

"Ellie" I reply

"Are you coming in?" She asks me

"Uh, yeah" I say and climb into the pool

We swim over to Warren, Emma and another boy and girl that I haven't been introduced to yet. "This is Joe and Sarah" Jess says introducing me to them

"Hi" I smile "I'm Ellie" I say to them

"Hey nice to meet you" joe says

"Yeah you too" I reply

"And I'm Jacob" the guy sitting with just his feet in the water introduces himself

After talking and playing games in the pool for 20 minutes we all got out to get food. Me, Emma, Sarah, Blake and Jacob all sat at one of the tables while the others sat over on the grass by the pool.

"So Ellie, do you have a boyfriend?" Sarah asks

"Uh, it's kinda complicated" I say. Me and Kai aren't officially back together but we have agreed to try sort things out between us and we are sorts dating. "I'm talking to this guy, but we aren't official" I tell them

"So your single then?" Jacob asks

"Um, well yeah I suppose" I say, he smirks but I just brush it off and pretend I didn't see it as I'm not sure what he meant by smirking.

I don't know if me and Kai are dating or not, I mean we basically are it's just not been officially said that we are back together.

"Blake this chicken is amazing" I say taking another bite

"Thank you, I told you I was a good cook" he says

"Yeah no wonder your a chef" Sarah says rolling her eyes

"Wait your a chef?" I ask

"Literally what I just said" Sarah mumbles below her breath but I heard her.

"Yeah, he is and he owns his own restaurant and everything" Emma tells me

"Oh that's cool, what's your restaurant called?" I ask

"Pollo" he says

"Oh, I've never been but I heard the chicken there is amazing. I must go check it out sometime"

"Yeah the food is delicious, you'd like it" Jacob says

I just smile and eat another bit of the chicken, it really was tasty.

Soon everyone started to go home. It was only me, Warren, Michael, Emma and Jacob left. I decided I'd help clean up before ordering a taxi. It was 7pm after we all ate we lit the campfire and made s'mores. It was so much fun and I'm so glad Warren invited me.

"Hey" Jacob says walking over to me, I was in the kitchen putting the last of the glasses in the sink.

"Oh hey" I say

"So you have fun today?" He asks

"Yeah it was great" I reply turning around only to find him so close to me, "Uh could you step back a bit please" I ask

"Oh sorry!" He says before taking 2 steps back

This is so awkward

"Um well I'm going to go see Warren and the others before I leave. I'll Uh... see you around" I say

"Oh okay, no problem. Do you need a ride home?" He asks

"No I'm okay thanks, and besides haven't you been drinking?" I ask

"No I don't drink" he tells

"Oh" I reply "Uh well I'll see you later" I say before walking away and out the back

"Hey need any help with anything else?" I ask

"No we're all good thanks" Warren smiles before stacking the last garden chair in the shed

"Okay well um I think I'm going to phone a taxi now. Thanks for inviting me, I had a good time" I say

"Yeah no problem, I'll see you at work on Monday?" He asks

"Yeah" I smile before turning to Micheal "it was nice meeting you"

"You too and thanks for coming" he says

"No problem, well I'll see you guys later" I wave goodbye before going back into the house. I grab my bag from the kitchen and say goodbye to Emma, she was washing cups in the sink

"Hey did you have a good time?" She asks

"Yeah it was super fun, I'm glad I came" I tell her honestly

"That's good, it was nice seeing you again. I'll maybe see you on Monday?" She says

"Yeah" I smile

Emma walks me to the front door and we say a final goodbye. I pull out my phone to phone a taxi when a car horn beeps. I look up and see Jacob sitting in his car. He climbs out and calls me over.

"Hey, you sure you don't need a ride?" He asks

"No it's okay, thank you though" I tell him

"Honestly I don't mind" he says

I think about it for a moment. Before agreeing and getting into the passenger seat.

"Thank you" I tell him

"No problem" he says

I give him my address and he types it into his Satnav. We make small talk for the rest of the journey and when he pulls up outside my house he asks me

"Hey so are you doing anything on Tuesday afternoon?" He asks

"Um.." I think "yeah, I'm working, why?" I ask

"I was gonna ask you if you'd like to go get dinner or something" he says

"Oh, I'm sorry I can't" I tell him

"Thanks okay I understand, are you free any other day next week?" He asks

"Look, Jacob you seem really nice anol but I'm sorta in a relationship right now" I tell him

"You said earlier that your single?" He says

"No, I said I was talking to somebody" I tell him

"Yeah but you're not officially in a relationship" he says

"Look it's complicated, sorry but I can't go out with you" I tell him

"Okay" he says and then it just goes quiet

After a moment or two of awkward silence I thank Jacob for the lift home and then get out to the car away from the awkwardness. I walk over to my door and unlock it before going inside.

I walk into my living room and throw myself down onto the couch with a sigh. It's so dark I can barley see anything.

"Who's your friend?" A voice startles me making me scream and jump of the sofa. I rush to turn on the lights and sigh when I see it's just Kai

"What the hell you almost gave me a heart attack!" I exclaim

Ohhh Kai is back and he just saw Ellie get dropped home by a boy. How do you think he's going to react?
