Chapter 31

Slave of the Onyx Dragon

CIAN

Ever since Valkyrie woke up, I’ve been watching her. I’ve been monitoring her actions, her moods.

Her awakening caught me off guard, but I know something happened when Lilly had her. I’m not sure what, but Valkyrie seems troubled.

When I delved into Valkyrie’s memories, I saw a man and a woman. Those memories aren’t hers, but they belong to someone who looks like her.

If I’m right, that’s Valkyrie’s mother. But why would those memories be implanted in her?

I’m aware that Dimitri doesn’t trust me. The fool, acting all friendly. What he doesn’t get is that I’m watching Valkyrie for several reasons.

I’m still waiting for a response to my message. A few days ago, I sent a letter home about Valkyrie. My father will send people immediately. And my uncle will be among them.

Deciding to keep my distance for a few days until everyone arrives, I watch Valkyrie from a distance. I approach her now and then, but it’s better to stay away. Especially with Dimitri hovering around her.

I need to have a conversation with Valkyrie, and for that, she needs to be alone.

Roaming the palace, I end up at the library. Michael mentioned that Valkyrie understands the dragon dialect.

But few people know it because it’s an ancient language. Only the elders are familiar with it. I need to learn it too, and Michael said there are books about it in the library.

Michael also suggested that Valkyrie will likely develop her powers further. I know he’s right. I can feel it. But I’m still waiting for Valkyrie’s consent.

I offered to help her, but she seemed doubtful. She’ll probably ask Dimitri, and all hell will break loose if she does. I can’t let that happen.

Pushing open the library doors, I step inside. It’s early morning, and hopefully, it’s empty. But to my surprise, Valkyrie is here.

She’s asleep on the rugs. Did she spend the night here? As I look at her, I notice dried tears on her face. She looks like she’s been crying. What happened?

Wanting to know more, I flick my finger and delve into her mind. I focus as images flash by.

“She had a fight with Dimitri earlier, and…,” I start to say, but stop and open my eyes. “What the fuck?” I whisper.

Pulling my hand back, I frown. What did I just see?

Groaning, I run my fingers through my hair and sit down. Valkyrie takes a deep breath and stirs in her sleep. I watch her in awe as my discovery makes me want her even more.

I can’t let her stay here. Not with Dimitri. Shifting on the pillows, Valkyrie throws her arm over her face. Her dress shifts, and her full breasts rise.

The knot on her dress is loose, revealing more of her breasts. Raising an eyebrow, I look at her. Swallowing hard, I pinch my nose and sigh.

“What are you thinking?” I mutter, cursing under my breath.

Stealing a glance, I look at her. She’s temptation personified right in front of me. I feel my resolve weaken as I yearn to touch her.

Biting my lip, I curse, knowing I might regret what I’m about to do. Leaning down to her face, I stop and lick my lips. Valkyrie’s mouth is slightly open.

Her pink, full lips are even more tempting now that I’m close. But as I lean in, Valkyrie throws her arm over me and pulls me down.

I quickly brace myself with my hands. I don’t want to wake her, so I stay still. Shifting, Valkyrie pulls me, causing my head to land on her chest.

I feel like I’m drowning as she presses me to her breasts. Closing my eyes, I try to calm my racing heart. This is insane and a huge mistake. If someone walks in, I’m in deep trouble. Deciding to wait for her to let go, I rest my head on her chest. Accidentally, my lips brush against her breast. I swallow hard. This is a terrible idea.

Finally, when her arms loosen, I gasp and pull away.

“Shit!” I exclaim. I need to fix my hair. Then, deciding I’ve had enough, I start to wake her up.

Valkyrie looks at me with those mesmerizing eyes. Her blue and yellow eyes make me stare at her. Shaking my head, I ask her if she’s okay.

As she hugs me, I stay still. She looks sad, and it bothers me.

Suddenly, she jumps up and runs out. I call after her, but she seems desperate to find Lilly. Grinding my teeth, I stand up and straighten my clothes.

That bitch needs to die. After what happened, I thought she would die, but Dimitri hasn’t killed her. I need to kill her, and I’ll do it even if Dimitri gets angry.

Closing the library door, I head to Michael’s chambers. The guards and some other dragons greet me. Smiling back, I return their greetings.

As I knock on Michael’s door, I lean against the wall and wait. Michael opens the door and rolls his eyes when he sees me.

“Need something?” Michael asks as I step in and close the doors.

“Yes, your help,” I reply as I take a seat on a chair near the bed. “I need you to help me convince Valkyrie to let me delve into her mind.”

“Again?” Michael asks, annoyed. “That’s dangerous.”

“I can control my powers, Michael. What do you take me for?” I snap, crossing my arms.

“Look, the one you should convince is Dimitri, not her,” Michael says.

“Wrong, my brother,” I hiss. “It’s Valkyrie; she is the owner of her mind. Dimitri has nothing to do with this.”

Michael glares at me. His lips are a thin line.

“May I ask you why you want to see into her mind?” Michael asks. Smirking back at him, I raise my head and start laughing.

“Oh, brother, if you knew. Even you would want to see.”
