Chapter 677
Spoiled by the President
His assistant remained silent after he forgave him.
Not long after that, Xavier waved his hand to dismiss him.
He then stared at the photos of Emilia on his computer screen, and his frown turned deeper and deeper.
A few minutes passed, and he murmured to himself, âEmmy, is that really you? Are you really back?â
On the other side of the capital, although Emilia did not go on the internet, Spencer, who was always by her side, was nevertheless made aware of what was going on because of the turbulent waves the news had made.
She was struck by immense fear and apprehension when she heard about the news. After all, she had promised Natalie that she would not be coming back.
Now, besides being back, her photos had been taken without her knowledge and scattered around the internet. Judging by how big the news had become, it was plausible that everyone on the streets had heard about it one way or another.
If this went on, whatever happened that year...
She could not sit still when she arrived at that thought. Her whole heart was brimming with regret and helplessness.
âBig Brother Nolan, Iâd like to meet up with my sister. Can you help me find her?â
Spencer was sitting on a sofa across from her and was trying to fix her guqin. When he heard Emiliaâs request, he looked up with great confoundment. âYou want to see Natalie Wright? Why?â
Emilia did not try to evade his question. Instead, she told him exactly what her worries were. She said softly, âI came back because I thought I could give Natalie and Brother Xavier a thorough explanation of the misunderstanding that year.
âBut when I met my sister for real, I realized that there was no need for me to explain anything. Sheâs happy, and their relationship is going strong. Itâs been so long. Maybe they donât even remember it, or perhaps theyâve already let it go.
âIf I bring it up again, besides them thinking that Iâm deliberately trying to bring back those painful memories, Iâm afraid it will hurt their relationship as well, so I decided to stay silent. Maybe Iâm back this time just so Iâll be able to walk those familiar roads and see my hometown one last time.
âNow that Iâve seen and felt enough, itâs time for me to go. I never wanted anyone to find out about my existence.
âBut someone published photos of me on the internet. Big Brother Nolan, Iâm really scared. If that post continues to make its way around, more people who knew me before will realize that Iâm still alive.
âBy then, what happened 26 years ago will be brought up once again. How am I supposed to face my sister if that happens? She and Brother-in-law have been living together for so many years. What if my presence creates a distance between the two of them? If that happens, I wonât be able to make it up to them even if I die.â
Spencer looked at her panicked expression and could not help but frown. He said in a low voice, âThat woman shamed and ridiculed you. If her marriage isnât going well, then itâs most likely because of her own self. What good would it do to burden yourself with all this guilt?â
Emilia shook her head at his words. âNo, itâs not like that. You donât understand. What happened that year impacted them a lot. I donât wish anything like that to happen again. Please, Brother Nolan, will you take me to see her? I want to explain everything in great detail right now and not drag this out anymore.â
Spencer was obviously not in favor of this proposition. He did not need to think to know that the meeting would not be a joyful one if she really met with her.
Nevertheless, he did not have the heart to reject Emilia when she was looking at him with those bright eyes that were filled to the brim with pity. In the end, he nodded and said, âIâll try.â
Emilia heard his answer and gave him a grateful smile.
Natalie received word from Spencer in no time.
The message was brought to her by her assistant. She had no idea how Spencer had gotten hold of her assistantâs contact information. Anyway, he told her that there was a Ms. Jareau who would like to meet with her.
Her assistant did not have a clue about who that was, so she wasted no time in notifying Natalie about the message.
Natalie knew exactly who it was right away when she heard the name. After careful contemplation, she agreed to meet up.
Of course, Emilia was more than familiar with the Foster residence. After all, she used to visit the place quite frequently in the past.
Nevertheless, she did not dare to go there now. Firstly, she did not wish to go out into the public so as to avoid proving the speculation that she was still alive to be true.
Secondly, all she wanted to do was to meet up with Natalie in private to clear up everything that happened that year. Then, she would go where she was supposed to go and never disturb their lives ever again.
If she were to visit the Foster residence and her photos were to be taken and posted online, the incident 26 years ago would surely be brought into light again.
By then, she would have not only lost the chance to explain herself, but this mess would turn even more complicated than ever. That was something she had no desire to see.
That was why she asked for Spencerâs help after dwelling on it for a while. He could reach out to Natalie to set up a private meeting.
Natalie naturally agreed to do this out of fear and pity for her. She was also curious to hear what she had to say to her when they met.
Both parties decided to meet in a tea house located on a quiet and secluded street.
Because the dining cost was quite high, it also meant the tea house was more than willing to protect a customerâs confidentiality.
Emilia asked for a private room and waited in the room, way ahead before the meeting.
When Natalie entered, she saw her sitting there and fiddling with the teapot in front of her.
Emilia lifted her head up when she heard footsteps approaching. Her eyes brightened up when she saw her, and she stood up immediately. âSister, youâre here.â
Natalie studied her from head to toe emotionlessly and swept her eyes around the room.
She realized that there were really just the two of them in the room. Then, she sneered, âWhat? Didnât you bring your lover with you today?â
Emiliaâs cheeks flushed at Natalieâs words. She lowered her gaze and said awkwardly, âSister, donât say that. Me and Brother Nolan are like siblings.
We donât have that kind of relationship.â
Natalie raised an eyebrow and chuckled darkly. âSiblings again? It seems like youâre still not tired of this âsiblingsâ game. Now the question is: does this brother of yours know what happened that year? Does he know who you really are? If he learns of it, do you think heâll still help you so wholeheartedly? Will he still treat you like his most beloved sister?â
When Natalie finished speaking, she could see the blood slowly leaving Emiliaâs face.
Emilia just sat there with her thin body trembling faintly, looking somewhat pathetic. However, she was not angered at all. Rather, she managed to muster a weak smile.
With the most tolerant attitude, she said, âIf you still harbor any anger towards me, please let it all out here. I came back this time just so you can let all of those emotions out. Tell me all the unpleasant things you wish to say to me. I wonât try to defend myself at all.â
