Chapter 482
Spoiled by the President
They saw a parterre immediately upon entering the villa.
The flowers planted in the parterre were vibrant and colorful which came in a multitude of sizes and shapes. Not one of them showed any signs of withering even though it was already well into autumn. Some of them even looked forbidding and untouchable.
Stepping on the rocky path that went around the parterre, they went past another set of doors and were greeted with a rockery garden that filled the entire room. They finally arrived at the main hall after walking through the garden.
The hall was enormous, and its interior was decorated in Oriental style. The furniture was maroon in color and made of pear tree bark. Sandalwood incense was burning atop a table. The wafting smoke in the room made it seem like they were in wonderland.
A white-haired old man sat on a chair. He had his eyes closed and was taking in the perfume in the air.
He did not open his eyes even when he must have heard the approaching footsteps. Rather, he asked calmly, âLincoln, whoâs here?â
The butler answered right away, âMaster, itâs Young Master and Young Missus.â
The old man finally lifted his eyelids. He narrowed his eyes as he stared at the young man standing just a few feet away from him. Then, he closed his eyes again. âOh, Mace is here.â
Mace Smith walked to the old man and bent his waist forward slightly. âGrandfather.â
The old man waved a dismissive hand. âYour father is on the patio. Go find him!â
With that, Mace nodded and led Lucy outside.
The old man opened his eyes suddenly.
That pair of eyes indeed looked like it belonged to an old man, but his gaze was as sharp as ever. It exhibited a radiance that seemed to say that he had seen and known a great deal about the world.
Lucy lowered her gaze, not wanting to meet his eyes. She held on to Maceâs elbow and left.
The scenery that the patio overlooked was beautiful, as always. A middle-aged man walked onto the patio in the company of a few other men. It seemed like they were caught in the middle of a discussion.
The man leading the group bore a striking resemblance to Mace. He and Lucy met the man halfway. âDad,â they called out at the same time.
The middle-aged man stopped in his tracks and spared them a glance before a warm smile tugged on his lips. âYouâre back. Go on and take some rest. Uncle Gale will be here soon. Let me wrap some things up with these uncles first.â
Mace nodded and led Lucy around the group of men who were courteous enough to let them pass, and within seconds, they were gone.
Mace was elated that he did not need to entertain anyone. They then loosened each otherâs arms now that there was some distance between them and the crowd.
Mace glanced at her with humor in his eyes. âYou look like you arenât willing to put up a pretense with me at all. Does it feel so wrong to take my elbow? It seems like you canât wait to push me away,â he teased her.
Lucy rolled her eyes and said with an icy edge, âIf you would just get the thing you promised me done as soon as possible, then we donât have to see each otherâs face again!â
âHa!â
The young man chuckled as he strolled into the villa. âWho said I hate you? Have I ever said that?â
Lucy frowned. Her lovely face was devoid of any warmth or gentleness right now. She caught up to him and said, âIâm warning you. Donât play any tricks on me! Or else...â
âOr else what? What are you going to do?â
He halted his steps and turned to look at her.
As Lucy did not see this coming, the tip of her nose almost touched his back, but she quickly retreated a few steps to put some distance between the two of them.
A pair of beautiful eyes glared at him warily.
Mace shrugged and resumed walking.
âHey, we wonât be staying here tonight, right?â
âThe Grand Royale Villa Residence is a place where everyone dreams about living in. Why? You donât want to stay?â Mace asked.
Lucy hastened her steps and blocked his path. âMace Smith, you canât be this unkind! We agreed to help each other in any way we need, but Iâll never live here with you.â
Mace peered at her from where he was standing.
His facial features were so strong and striking that he did not look human at all. Rather, he looked like a Greed god sculpture.
The sunlight lit up his profile and painted his skin a shimmering white.
His eyes, swirling with the color blue, carried a hint of laughter in them. It was as if he were teasing her, but his expression remained blank and emotionless.
âYou said it yourself: we agreed to help each other. Doesnât staying for the night count as you helping me?â
Taken aback by his words, Lucy did not know what to say.
Mace tugged his lips up once in a mocking smile. With his hands in his pockets, he said, âMs. Katz, you should cooperate with me today and get this mission over with to honor our agreement. Itâll be easier for both of us this way. Donât you think?â
Lucyâs eyebrows knitted together. âWhat about me then? You promised me something. When can you get it done?â she said through gritted teeth.
The young manâs eyes darkened. âThat thing happened years ago. Itâll take some time for me to dig any information up. If it wasnât for this, you wouldnât have asked me for help. Would you?â
Lucy knew what he said made sense, but she just did not like it that those words were coming out of his mouth.
His attitude was too blasé; so indifferent that it seemed like he did not care about the promise he made with her at all.
It was supposed to be a mutual agreement between both parties, but now it seemed like she was the one who went along with everything he said and she had not gotten anything in return.
She gritted her teeth for a second before she said coldly, âI donât care. Even if youâve come up with nothing substantial so far, there must still be something. Iâll give you another two weeks. If thereâs really nothing to find, then we can end our agreement right away. I donât believe I canât find another person in this world who can do what you do.â
She stomped away when she was finished.
Maceâs expression was as blank as ever. It was as if Lucyâs stern warning was merely the typical ranting of a girl in his ears.
At around 6:00 pm, a luxurious fleet of cars drove into the Grand Royale Villa Residence.
Mace and everyone from the Smith family stood at the door to welcome the guest.

The door of the car in the middle of the fleet was the last to be opened, with that, Gale Shelby stepped out of the car.
He wore a brilliant white tux today, and he had his hair slicked back impeccably. His whole person exuded a warm and elegant aura.
The people at the manor rushed toward him.
âMr. Shelby, youâre finally here!â
âUncle Shelby!â
Mace nudged Lucyâs elbow ever so slightly. âHi, Mr. Shelby,â she called reluctantly.
Gale was smiling as he swept his gaze across their faces, but he paused when it landed on Lucy.
He widened his eyes in surprise. âThis is...?â
âThis is Maceâs wife. Sheâs Lucy.â
âOh? You two are husband and wife?â
He looked extremely stunned by the news, so much so that his voice rose up a notch.
Mace and everyone in the manor were perplexed by his astonishment.
Lucy lowered her gaze, not meeting Galeâs eyes.
Gale chuckled airily. âGood. Very Good.â
He did not say anything else, and shortly after that, everyone went inside the villa.
