Chapter 458
Spoiled by the President
Gideon nodded thoughtfully.
Nell was worried about his health, so she stood up quickly, not wanting to fool around with him any longer.
âYou sit here and be good. Iâll call the doctor.â
Gideon did not try to stop her this time.
The doctor arrived in no time. After a round of examination, he concluded that it was just a fever he had likely contracted from exposure to the chilly wind. The good thing was that his fever was only 38.5 °C.
Gideon could not simply take any medication offered to him since he was wounded, so the doctor only gave him some Tylenol and asked Nell to drape cold towels on his body to cool his temperature before he left.
That night, Nell was busy switching out cold towels to cool his body.
Gideon felt for her and was afraid she would tire herself out. Holding her hand in his, he said, âGet Matthew up to do this. Go rest for a while.â
Nell shook her head.
Matthew might be caring, but he was still a man at the end of the day. There were just things he was not skilled in doing. Besides, both of them got to stay at home all the time these days while Matthew had to take care of their businesses day and night.
Nell did not express that thought out loud though. She only smiled. âWhat? You arenât satisfied with my service?â
Gideon knew she was joking, so he only chuckled lightly and laid back down.
It was only a joke, but he felt something growing inside of him after she threw him a glare.
He narrowed his eyes, and his voice grew low and soft.
âBaby.â
Gideon took her hand in his when she answered.
âBabe...â
Nellâs face flared up, and her skin looked as red as a crayfish.
All she could manage was leveled another glare at him.
âGideon Leith, stop fooling around.â
Gideon smirked a little. âI just want you to lay with me for a while. Nothing more. Your reaction made me think that you wanted something else.â
Nell widened her eyes. She could not believe those shameless words just came tumbling out of his mouth.
She threw the towel on him angrily and shouted, âGideon Leith, quit playing with me, or else I wonât help you anymore!â
Gideon grinned. His soulful eyes were squeezed into two tiny crescent moons, but he still tried to pull her onto the bed shamelessly.
âHow about you come to bed? Iâll behave when you do.â
Nell felt trapped.
She wanted to reject him, but she could not find the heart to do so when he had that helpless look on his face.
Gideon stared at her like a lost puppy. âMrs. Leith, I just want to hold you. Canât you even fulfill this wish of mine?â
He blinked as he spoke.
Nell was speechless.
Fine. This man could be a formidable and controlling president when he went outside the house, but sometimes he acted like a kid in front of her.
How could she argue with a kid?
Nell let go of his hand and rolled his eyes. âWait a moment.â
She took the basin and replaced the water in it. Then, Nell put the basin aside when she came back and got into bed beside him and leaned on the bedpost, resuming her task of covering him with cold towels.
Gideon knew that they could not do anything more right now in the state they were in, so he was content to have Nell by his side for now.
He curled an arm around her waist and put his head on her shoulder wordlessly. The familiar yet refreshing scent from her body calmed his mind.
Nell could not move at all as Gideon had gotten himself comfortable.
She gave his head a push. âGideon, donât lay all over me. I canât really do anything like this.â
The man did not move.
âThen just take the towels away,â he murmured a few moments later.
Nell frowned.
âNo way. You still have a fever. We should keep the towels on until itâs gone.â
She pushed him away as she spoke.
Gideonâs eyebrows knitted together. He looked upset, but he still let her go at the end. His gaze was filled with playful indignation when their eyes met.
Nell wanted to laugh at his antics.
âWho asked you to go out into the windy night without telling me? Donât you know the state of your body? Now you have the guts to tell me you donât want help? What right do you have to say no?â she stated and tapped his nose.
Gideon had a handsome face. Nell did not notice it before, but he had a high nose bridge, and it was fun to be tapping his nose like that.
âNelly.â
It might be because he was exhausted, or because his mind was finally at peace now that his heart was, but he fell asleep not long after that.
Nell stared at the man sleeping soundly on the bed. Her gaze fell onto his serene face, and she could feel her heart melting.
The light in the room was dim. The amber-colored light shining on his face brought out his striking features. Half of his face was bathed in light, and the other half was hidden in the darkness. He looked untouchable and ethereal.
Nell twisted her lips a little.
What an evil man! He used his good looks to seduce her!
She did not want to wake him up, so she was cautious as she reached out a hand to touch his forehead. Surprisingly, his temperature seemed to have gone down.
For a moment, she did not know whether she should laugh or cry.
She recalled that Gideon did sweat quite a bit just now, so that could be why his fever seemed to be disappearing.

Nell had a dream that night.
In her dream, she was standing on a boat with the wind blowing in her face. The remaining rays of light from the setting sun poured all over the ocean, and a large golden circle floated in the waves.
