Chapter 44

Spoiled by the President

Nell quickly typed another reply. [Take a look at the second supporting female, I think the role suits you well. She doesn’t have as many parts as the first supporting female and the female lead, but she has a bright character, and her role is an eye-catching one. If you act well, the effect won’t be bad as compared to the first two roles.]

It was then that Lucy took a more detailed look at the parts for the second supporting female.

She replied to Nell’s message after about ten minutes.

[Elder Sister Nelly, I looked at it, and I like this character, but can I secure a spot given that it’s such a big production?]

Nell curled her lips into a smile.

[You only have to study the script intensively. Leave the rest to me.]

[Okay, thanks, Elder Sister Nelly.]

Once Nell was done communicating with Lucy, she put down her phone and pondered on the couch.

After a brief moment, she retrieved her laptop and entered Gareth Leith’s name.

She was not very familiar with him, and her understanding of him was only limited to his work as a director.

Although it did not seem reliable to gather information about a person from the internet, Nell was left with no choice.

Fortunately, Gareth was so famous that plenty of information about him could be found. As Nell filtered the information that she needed, her understanding of the director was at 70 to 80%.

While Nell was looking through the details, her phone suddenly rang.

She casually answered the call, which was from Janet.

“Nelly, are you free tomorrow night? Can you go somewhere with me?”

Nell grinned. “Don’t you have a shooting? Where are you going?”

Janet paused for two seconds before she answered in guilt, “I asked for leave tomorrow; there’s a car-racing competition in the eastern suburbs tomorrow, and I want to take a look at it.”

Nell’s finger stopped on the touchpad.

“Car-racing?”

“Mm.”

Nell looked at the column about Gareth’s hobbies, then she smiled and responded, “Okay!”

......

The next day.

Nell got off work as soon as she finished her tasks at hand.

Janet had already arrived, and she was waiting for her in the car.

Nell went to the basement to retrieve her car, and when she drove her car out, Janet got off a black sedan car and hurried over like a thief.

Even after Janet entered Nell’s car, she kept checking their surroundings to ensure that nobody noticed her, then she waved her hand at her assistant, who was outside the car.

“Sis, if you’re so afraid, why are you going to watch the car race? Wouldn’t it be better if you carry on with the shooting with the cast and crew?” Nell could not help but laugh.

Janet took a small mirror out of her bag, and she commented unhappily while she checked her make-up, “Who said I’m afraid? Am I not avoiding the paparazzi so they won’t say that I’m not being dedicated enough? Your younger sister — a typical white lotus — is on the hot-search list almost every day either because she enters cold water for a shooting regardless of her body condition or because she passed out due to exhaustion from work.

Ugh —!”

She made a disgusted face and added, “The standard for a dedicated actress has already been set like that, and given that I’m her opponent, how can I not protect my image?”

Nell could not help but laugh.

Nonetheless, Celine had always been like that. No matter how she was on the inside, she always showed the gentle, beautiful, and dedicated side of her to the public.

Nell was already used to it.

Following that, she drove straight to the suburbs.

When they were almost at the car race venue, Janet suddenly tugged her sleeve.

“Nelly, take a quick look at me. Is my make-up okay? Is my outfit today pretty?”

Nell stared at her dumbfoundedly.

“Did you... Take the wrong medicine?”

Janet. “...”

A few seconds later, Nell finally understood what was wrong with Janet.

From the moment Janet called her today, Nell could tell that she was very eager and anxious.

Janet was usually confident about her outer appearance, but she had been reapplying her make-up throughout their journey.

Nell wondered, “She even asked me if she looks pretty?

“Oh my god! Janet the beauty, who disdains Xi Shi, is actually asking someone else to approve of her beauty?!

“Is this a display of a distorted personality or moral decay?’

Janet smiled embarrassedly as if she noticed her unusual behavior too.

She tweaked the corner of Nell’s shirt after some time and explained, “He’s coming today.”

Nell widened her eyes as she was startled.

There was no need for Janet to disclose who “he” was because Nell already knew.

After all, the two of them had been deskmates since secondary school, and they eventually became best friends. They told one another practically everything, and rarely kept secrets from each other.

Besides, the fact that Janet had a crush on Senior Jackman was already a hot topic six years ago, so everyone was already well aware of it.

Over the years, she had slowly changed from being an enthusiastic, pampered, arrogant young lady of an influential family into a quiet, reserved, elegant lady. With that, everyone thought the gossip about her was only a result of an impulsive act during her youth, so the news toned down as time passed.

That said, only Janet’s best friend — Nell — knew the guy still had a place in her heart, and it had always been there.

People always said it was difficult for a guy to pursue a lady but easy for a lady to pursue a guy.

However, even as Janet pursued her crush for six years, not only did she not become closer to the guy, but they became further apart.

Nell could not help but gulp at that thought.

Soon enough, they were already at the parking lot.

Nell parked her car then turned to look at Janet. She tidied her messy hair a bit and straightened the necklace on her neck.

Next, she studied Janet carefully with a straight face.

Once she was done, she reached for the lipstick in her bag and passed it to Janet.

“Change your lip color! You’ll look softer in this color.”

Janet was displeased. “I already look soft!”

“Mm, you do, but this color should be more to his liking.”

Janet was dubious.

She asked in doubt while she accepted the lipstick. “Really?”

“Mm, trust me, I guarantee it!”

Janet no longer hesitated. She wiped away her lipstick with a wet tissue, then she applied a new color on her lips while she looked in the mirror.

When she was done, she realized that the new color was indeed a better match for her make-up and outfit today.

She instantly smiled brightly and leaned over to give Nell a hug.

“Nelly, thank you.”

Nell clenched her fist and cheered for her with a smile, “All the best! Go, go, go!”

Afterward, the two of them left the car.

The venue was already filled with people, and more people attended the race tonight because a total of eight teams would be competing with each other.

By now, the cheerleaders and the judges had already entered, as well as a number of fans. Most of the fans were young men and women, each of them holding a small flag or banner, and they clamored while standing in their respective zones.

On the other hand, the racers had not shown up; they would likely appear only when the race was about to start.

Janet was fully equipped as she wore a mask and a peaked cap. She lowered her head as she pulled Nell into the crowd, and quickly found her way to the zone behind one of the car-racing teams.

“Nelly, this is Liam Jackson’s team, and he was the one who established it. They’ve won many championships these few years, be it local or international competitions, so they’re doing great!”

Nell nodded at her.

A girl noticed them when she turned to look, and she asked them in a friendly manner, “Are you Liam’s fans too?”

Nell was struck dumb, and she immediately tried to come up with an answer without having to expose anything.

Unexpectedly, Janet beat her to it and answered, “Yes, yes! Did you bring extra flags? Can you give us one each?”
