Chapter 392

Spoiled by the President

At once, the cameras were aimed at him and numerous flashes went off.

Jason was petrified. When the crowd was finished with their pictures and realized who he was, they bombarded him with questions.

“Mr. Morton, we heard you met your ex-girlfriend Nell Jennings here. Is this true?”

“Both of you have broken up a long time ago. Are you rekindling old flames?”

“Do you know that she’s married to Mr. Leith now? Do you think that you have a chance with her?”

“How many times have you two met in secret?”

“...”

Countless accusatory questions were directed towards Jason. Everyone was so absorbed by the gossip that they forgot Jason was still tied up and gagged, so he simply could not speak.

Finally, one of the reporters realized that something was wrong with him.

He went up to Jason and removed the cloth from his mouth.

Jason roared, “What’s this nonsense?! I’ve been kidnapped! I’ve never met Nell!”

The reporters and hotel attendants fell silent.

Jason was no fool. With Nell’s current status, he could not afford to offend her.

It was all over between them. Admitting that he had an affair with Nell would only do him no good.

As such, Nell thought it was safe to leave him there.

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Nell dragged Gregory along as they leaped onto the balcony next door. They eventually made it out of the hotel for there was nobody outside.

She guessed that whoever set her up had stationed reporters on the ground floor of the hotel instead of outside the room. So, they took the backdoor.

However, when they got out, a black Mayback stopped in front of them.

Gregory raised his eyebrows.

“Little Seven, if I told your husband that the man you are having an affair with isn’t Jason Morton but me, what would he do?”

Nell glared at him irritably and chided, “Quit fooling around!”

Then, she released her grip on his arm and walked towards the car.

The car’s window rolled down, revealing her husband’s charming side profile.

He did not look at them, but his hardened expression and the tension around them could already explain everything.

Nell pressed her lips together and said, “Gideon, I can explain.”

Gideon was quiet.

Soon, Nell entered the car and the car disappeared from Gregory’s view.

He observed the car as it left. In the end, his lips curled upward as he smiled in a self-deprecating manner.

At the same time, inside the car.

The atmosphere was so tense that one could hardly breathe.

Gideon remained silent and the aura he emitted was so cold that it could freeze someone to death.

Even Matthew, who was driving the car, sensed the chill on his spine and sneezed.

Nell kept her mouth shut, but after a while, she spoke.

“I’ve been set up. Someone used Jan’s voice recording to trick me. I thought something happened to her, so I came here. After that, I was knocked unconscious and when I woke up, I saw Gregory and Jason, who was trussed up.

“I suspect someone’s trying to use Jason to smear me. I’m not sure about other objectives, but luckily, I awoke earlier and escaped in time, so I don’t think they succeeded in their plan.”

She believed that her explanation was clear enough.

Yet, Gideon asked, “So, you mean this was all a misunderstanding?”

Nell froze.

She raised her head and looked into his eyes.

The man’s gaze was unusually cold—as if it was pure ice and it could freeze someone’s bones.

Her heart skipped a beat and she immediately realized something.

“Did you hear that?”

Gideon’s lip curved into a sardonic smile.

He lifted his phone and pressed a button on the screen with his slender fingers. Next, an amorous voice recording was played.

Nell was struck with horror.

The recording was brief, but any adult would understand what it meant.

Gideon smirked.

“Until now, you still want me to believe that this is just a misunderstanding?”

As shock overwhelmed Nell, her face began to turn pale.

She regarded him in disbelief. “Don’t you believe me?”

Gideon was silent.

Nell found it funny in an ironic way. “Gideon, one could tell that this recording has been edited. Don’t you hear it?”

Finally, the man began to react.

He gazed at her sombrely and asked, “So his appearance tonight was also purely a coincidence?”

This time, Nell was at a loss for words.

Gideon revealed his smirk again.

“I believe you when you said someone’s trying to set you up with Jason Morton, but how do you explain this recording? Someone who sets you up with Jason makes a recording where Gregory’s name is mentioned. How does this make sense?”

Nell quickly responded.

“When did you call me?”

Gideon did not answer.

Nell refused to argue with him, so she took out her phone to have a look. It was fifteen minutes ago.

It took at least fifteen minutes to reach the hotel from the airport, which meant that Gideon had called her as soon as he got off the plane and heard this recording.

As for her, she had been knocked unconscious two hours ago outside the hotel room.

When she remembered this, Nell seemed to have comprehended something.

She could not help but massage the ache on her forehead.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t think about this properly and it made you worry about me. But I can assure you that the recording was sent by Gregory. He wants to drive a wedge between us, so don’t fall for his trap.”

An annoyed Gideon twitched his lips.

“Oh? Are you saying that he likes you?”

Nell was caught off guard.

“I’ve always had a feeling that you two have an unlikely relationship. Still, both of you didn’t have any prior dealings with one another. From the looks of it now, my feelings aren’t invalid, are they?”

Nell kept her lips sealed as she did not know how to answer him.

Gideon added, “Why didn’t you bring Nancy along today?”

“I...” She hesitated and forced a smile. “Sorry, I forgot.”

Gideon was evidently upset.

“Did you forget or did you choose not to bring her along? Nelly, you have learned to lie to me.”

The man scrutinized her intently. His gaze was serious, but there was also a complex look of disappointment and sadness in his eyes.

“Did you know? I’ve always believed that we could trust each other completely after all that we have been through. But obviously, you don’t think the same.

“Nelly, you can choose to keep me in the dark, but as your husband, I have the right to demand loyalty from my wife! Therefore, I forbid you from seeing this person again, alright?”

Nell felt a lump in her throat.

“Gideon...”

“I don’t need “no’ for an answer.”

For the first time, he showed her his stern and uncompromising side.
