Chapter 298
Spoiled by the President
Nell and Tara were neither close nor did they have any grudges toward each other. She did not dislike Tara either.
However, Tara was a distant cousin of Stephanie. Stephanie always had her eye on Gideon, yet Nell had invited her cousin to dinner. Was she not courting trouble by doing so?
Tara seemed like a tactful person. She would not agree to it, would she?
Unexpectedly, Taraâs eyes lit up and she agreed to it at once.
âAlright, Iâll join you all.â
Nell was speechless.
She led Tara into the private room with a face of awkwardness.
Everyone saw her and felt surprised as well.
Fortunately, some of the attendees like Joel and Simon were smart. Moreover, they did not have strong opinions of Stephanie.
Despite Taraâs surname, she and Stephanie were distant cousins.
Taraâs father was just an extended member of the Garrett family. Although he was also based in the capital city, he merely managed a small-scale business and was nothing in comparison with the direct line of the Garrett family.
Under such circumstances, Tara was not caught in between the familyâs power struggle, unlike Stephanie.
Nobody was against her. In addition, she was friendly and attractive. Those who got to know her realized that she was rather adorable too. As such, she got along well with the attendees.
Owen Jackman was the last to arrive as something came up at the hospital and he had to attend to it. His occupation was extraordinary, so the rest of the crowd did not mind.
When he arrived, Nell ordered a waiter to get some cutleries. Owen had on a large, coffee-colored coat and a scarf around his neck. He gave off a soft-spoken, intellectual vibe.
Tara was grilling some meat. The side dishes of the steamboat suited her taste, so she was busy wolfing down the food.
However, he came over just as she stuffed a piece of meat into her mouth. Her eyes widened in shock and her face blushed. The meat slipped into her throat and got stuck, causing Tara to choke and cough loudly.
Owen was surprised when he saw Tara and asked, âWhat are you doing here, Tara?â
Tara drank a mouthful of water and finally swallowed that piece of meat. She thought about how hideous and embarrassing she looked earlier, and how she was seen by him.
Following that, she stood up hastily and greeted him with a shy smile.
âGood evening, Senior Brother.â
Everybody else was astonished.
âWhat Senior Brother? Do you know each other?â
Owen explained cheerily, âOh, nothing. Didnât you know that Iâve set up my own medical research center? She came for an interview earlier and is now my assistant.â
A sudden realization dawned on the attendees.
They were aware that Tara was a medical student but they did not expect that she would end up working with Owen.
As such, they felt a greater sense of kinship with Tara.
A waiter came over to seat Owen. Things went back to normal and everyone dined, and made jokes. However, Taraâs face was still red with embarrassment. She kept her head lowered and ate without saying a word.
After everyone had finished eating, Joel pestered his friends to game with him.
He was an avid gamer. As the rest of the people had nothing else to do, they agreed to his wish.
The group sat in a circle on the sofa and got ready with their phones.
Liam did not play that game, so he did not join them but Janet did.
Thus, Janet, Nell, Lucy, Joel, and Owen formed a team.
Gideon sat beside Nell and became her advisor. Nell was worried that the game would last till late at night and disrupt the childâs sleep, so she tasked Matthew with taking Lizzy home.
Nell played as a top Warrior while Lucy picked an Assassin.
When the round began, Lucy said, âJoel, hide in the bushes. Weâll ambush them. Theyâll definitely steal our blue buff, so donât give them that chance.â
Naturally, Joel agreed with her plan.
However, when he reached the bush, he noticed there was no one around and let his guard down. All of a sudden, an Assassin attacked him.
It was too late for Joel to hide. Soon, he was killed and his player, a Mage, cried in agony.
He was appalled, then realized what had just happened and exclaimed, âF*ck! That bastard ambushed me! I made a silly mistake!â
Lucy threw a glance at him and rolled her eyes.
Nonsense! Were you not supposed to ambush the other party too? Furthermore, she had noticed that person, but he did not, and he even moved forward. He was handing his head to the enemy on a silver platter!
She shook her head hopelessly and muttered, âDonât be hasty.â
Joel was displeased. When he respawned, he moved forward and declared, âHear this, donât underestimate my abilities. Iâm an expert in gaming!â
However, as soon as he finished speaking, a cry of pain escaped from the player in the game.
Joelâs Mage was killed again.
His eyes widened in shock as he stared at his screen. At the next second...
âDouble kill!â
Nellâs player showed up without warning and launched a swift double kill.
Joel froze, then he buttered Nell up. âD*mn! That was superb and freaking awesome!â
Nell curled her lips and smiled wanly. âOh, itâs nothing.â
Janet chuckled. âYou Smurf, youâre a loser if you donât teach us your tricks.â
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 297 Welcome Back Meanwhile, the Archer she played and the Support played by Owen had forgone the bottom lane and came to the mid lane to help Nell.
As she farmed the opponents, she explained to Joel, âLet me tell you, sheâs the only player among us who has twenty stars. Sheâs a pro!â
When she was finished speaking, she heard Owen say, âCareful.â
A figure emerged from the bushes. To protect Janet, Owen had sacrificed himself. When everybody came to their senses, Owenâs character was dead.
Janet was stunned and felt a bit bad.
âSorry about that, Doctor Jackman. I kept talking and wasnât paying attention.â
Owen calmly replied, âItâs ok.â
The round ended quickly. As a Smurf, Nell steamrolled the other opponents.
After that, she turned to Gideon. âDo you want to play? Itâs really fun.â
Gideon shook his head. âIâll just watch.â
Joel pestered him. âEh, itâs no fun to just sit there and watch. Come on, join us! We can create a lobby. How about three against four or three against three?â
Nell perked up and exclaimed, âCool! Bring it on!â
Joel laughed. âIâll ask Old Liam whether he wants to join us!â
Then, he ran outside.
Meanwhile, Liam was at the balcony and talking to someone on the phone.
When Joel arrived, Liam had ended the call and was surprised to see him.
