Chapter 149
Spoiled by the President
âUnlike âHidden Riverâ, itâs only a minor production. The actresses nowadays, they wonât sign on if theyâre famous and those who are willing, are lacking in acting skills. Itâs rare to find someone like Janet who isnât concerned whether it was a major or minor production and only has eyes for the script.â
Gareth then sighed. Nell really did not have the words to respond to him.
After a while, Gareth brought up. âCeline has been in contact with me, saying that she wishes to partake in the shoot and was interested in the female lead role. Iâm not too sure myself due to her recent state of affairs.
âAlthough her looks should see her through more than anyone else with wardrobe and make up, Iâm still quite concerned. What if halfway through the production, another scandal breaks out? Itâs not going to be an easy fix then.â
Nell was taken by surprise.
With a twinkle in her eye, she asked, âCeline wants the role?â
Gareth replied, âYes. Honestly speaking, my friend might be new in directing, but he does have the skills. I wouldnât be helping him if that wasnât the case. There are many that want in on the production, but itâs just that we canât find the right people.
âI guess if it comes down to it, Celine is still a good choice. Although her image isnât that great with the recent scandals, she still has quite the following. If she did the shoot well, the response should be well-received.
âItâs a minor production after all. A minor production wouldnât tickle the fancy of a star of her quality.â
With downcast eyes, Nell fell into deep thought. Suddenly, she curled her lips into a smile.
âAlright, I got it. If it sits well with you, could you send me a copy of the script? Iâll reply to you tomorrow.â
Gareth was taken aback in the moment, unable to discern the meaning behind her words.
Nevertheless, he did not pursue an answer and agreed to it before hanging up.
Nell drove back home. She had just stepped into the house when her phone beeped, signaling an incoming mail in her mailbox.
While taking off her shoes, she clicked open the mail. It was an electronic-version of a script sent by Gareth.
Gideon was already home. Aware that she was out shopping and eating with her sister today, he left her alone for the evening.
During this time, the man had already had his dinner and had gone to the study.
Nell went upstairs after changing her shoes. Instead of looking for Gideon, she went straight to the bedroom.
Turning on the computer, Nell read through the script sent by Gareth.
The script itself was not long, being only an eighteen-episode web-series. However, it did take some time as she went through it word by word.
Gideon came out of the study and saw her sitting behind the computer rather focused on something. Thus, he did not bother her.
To his surprise, she still remained there with her attention stuck to the screen after he was done in the shower and that sort.
Gideon glanced at the time. With the clock striking midnight, he frowned.
âWhat are you looking at?â
As she was so absorbed on the screen, the sudden raspy and hoarse voice from behind gave her a jump.
She turned back and realized it was Gideon before heaving a sigh.
âOh, nothing. Itâs just a script.â
âWhat script is so important that you must read it now?â
Bending over, the man folded his arm past hers and clicked on the cursor. The title of the script was immediately visible in sight.
âCannon Fodder Guideâ.
The man raised a brow while rosiness crept up Nellâs cheeks. She stammered in explanation. âItâs only a temporary name. It should be changed later on. Er... That... Itâs the script to a web-series. Itâs not a major production. Iâm just having a look-see.â
Gideon let out a chilly smile. âThis script is worth your time this late?â
He pointed at the hands on his watch.
Realizing it was late, Nell subtly expressed agreement.
On the other end.
The Jenningsâ residence.
Celine was on the phone with Gareth.
Although it was quite late, it was not at all late for a person in this business. In fact, it was still quite early.
Gareth was no exception to this. As a famous night owl, he had just exited a hotel after a meeting with a producer when Celine called him.
âOh, Celine. Whatâs up?â
Clenching the phone in cold sweat, Celine was all smiles.
âDirector Leith, itâs like this. I heard that you have a script at hand and youâre looking for a female lead?â
Gareth lowered his eyes. Even though he was clear about Celineâs intentions, he still articulated the awkward position he was in.
âYes there is but Iâm not the one directing. A friend of mine is the director. He just entered the business so he doesnât have the experience...â
âItâs okay. As long as the script is good, I donât mind who the director is.â
Gareth smiled.
âOh, did you give my friend a call?â
Talking about this, Celine flew into rage.
That new director, what was his name again? Tim Coombs. He was not some big name yet already had quite the temper to show for.
She was an A-list star and, although she was caught in a scandal, she still had a fan base.
For her to partake in his production was already giving him respect. Yet, he refused to budge?
That man did not know what was good for him!
Nevertheless, Celine had no other choice in her current circumstances. She was usually picky with roles and all the arrows just pointed right back the character of this series.
Moreover, she had gotten to know that Tim was a good friend of Gareth. With Gareth supervising the production, the quality was definitely there.
Although it was a web-series, web-series were all the rage right now. Who knows, perhaps she might even bounce back?
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 148 Sheâs Pregnant Wrong Ride, Right Lover Celine took a deep breath and suppressed her resentment within. She smiled and answered, âI called him but Director Coombs doesnât seem to recognize me. Iâm not very familiar with him so itâs hard to say. Director Leith, you know me. The incident last time came as a bolt out of the blue for me. I was set up. I hope that you can give me a chance. Iâll definitely do well and wonât let you down.â
To be frank, Gareth was actually swayed.
Knowing Tim, the production would come to a halt without the right people to play the part.
The world knew Gareth as one to ride roughshod over people, but it was just because they did not know Tim.
A gifted person like him would not be left to muddle along in life if it were not for his willful character.
A middle-aged man who was new in the directing business.
Gareth sighed at that thought.
As he wanted to lend this friend a helping hand, Gareth replied, âLet me discuss it with him! Weâll give you a call if we come to an agreement.â
By the tone of Garethâs voice, it was basically a done deal.
Celine could finally breathe out in relief.
She answered with a smile, âThank you, Director Leith.â
Gareth acknowledged and without continuing the conversation, he ended the call.
He went to look for Tim the morning of the next day.
Tim had established a tiny working studio. By a working studio, it actually was a workshop in his home.
He was too poor to afford even a single piece of equipment. It must be tough on him to rent all the equipment for the shoot.
