Chapter 139
Spoiled by the President
Nell was not going to wait by the door after giving out instructions.
Therefore, she brought Lizzy to the dressing room backstage.
It was coincidentally time for intermission. Since there were two minutes left for the break, Daniel who had come down from the stage retrieved a bottle of water and began quenching his thirst.
His eyes widened with disbelief when Nell came walking in with a little girl in her arms. The little girl kept calling her mommy in a sweet voice.
âUm, Nell, please donât tell me that this is your child? I heard that youâre married but I have no idea about a child?â
Nell returned the question with a cold hard stare. âI wouldnât think youâve lost your voice if you kept your mouth shut.â
âHey, but honestly, where did you find this little dumpling?â
Nell placed the âlittle dumplingâ down on a chair and instructed one of the staff to purchase the kidâs favorite drink before providing the man an explanation. âSomehow, both of us kept bumping into each other. She was lost both times when I found her. Well, I canât leave her alone by herself. I already ordered the staff to look for her parents but decided to bring her in here in the meantime.â
Daniel was astonished.
âBut why does she call you mommy?â he pressed further.
Nell did not know what to reply.
She had no idea why the little dumpling kept calling her mommy since the first time they met. The endearment stuck until now!
Left with no other alternative, she knelt to the ground to be on eye level with Lizzy. She regarded the little girl in the eyes.
âLizzy, can you call me by another name?â
Confused, Lizzy blinked back her glistening eyes innocently. âBut why?â
âWell, itâs because Iâm not your mommy. Besides, your actual mommy will be heartbroken to hear that! You donât wish that upon your mommy, right?â
Lizzy pouted her tiny lips.
âBut I donât have an actual mommy!â
Nell was stunned.
Even Daniel was at a loss for words.
No one expected this cute little dumpling to not have a mother.
Nell felt as if her heart had been punched by a powerful fist.
Immediately, she leaned in to embrace the little dumpling who appeared on the verge of crying. She patted the girl on her back gently and comforted.
âGood Lizzy, please donât cry. Iâm sorry. Lizzy can call me whatever you like, okay? Itâs fine.â
Lizzy sobbed before extending her fleshy palms to dab those nonexistent tears. She regarded Nell pitifully.
âIâll not call you mommy anymore. What about aunt?â
Nell nodded frantically.
âYes, of course.â
A smile washed over Danielâs face. âSuch an adorable child. If I hadnât known better, you both do look alike based on your appearances. You should take her as your goddaughter, seeing as she fancies you so much.â
Nell glared at the man.
âEnough!â
Although she adored Lizzy too, she was not familiar with the girlâs family. This sort of arrangement had to be agreed upon by both parties, especially Lizzyâs parents.
Daniel smiled without commenting further. He bent over to play with Lizzy.
âDarling, do you know who I am?â
Lizzy tilted her head sideways and blinked as she studied Daniel.
âIâve seen you before, Elder Brother Daniel.â
Daniel went into stitches all of a sudden.
âYes, youâre right. Iâm Elder Brother Daniel. Hehe, this darling knows how to please.â
Satisfied, he nudged Nell by the elbow. âDo you hear that? She calls you aunt but calls me her elder brother. Tsk, Nelly, youâve been home for two years and you should really consider taking care of your looks. You donât want more people to have this misunderstanding!â
Nell pinched him on the waist without mercy.
âDaniel Levy, I think you need a bashing.â
He shouted in pain though still laughing. âDonât get angry, I was only kidding. Youâre still beautiful. No one compares to you in my eyes!â
Nell retaliated through gritted teeth. âDonât get too delighted! After all, I donât have such an old nephew!â
Daniel was dumbfounded.
It was only until the makeup artist by the side chuckled that he finally understood what Nell meant.
If Lizzy called Nell âauntâ and addressed him as an elder brother, in other words, his seniority would be one rank lower than Nell? It seemed right for Nell to call him her nephew then!
A shadow veiled over his features at the thought of this.
âLil Lizzy, you should call me Uncle Daniel. Understand?â
Lizzyâs eyes formed two arcs when she smiled. âElder Brother Daniel is an idol, and idols fear aging the most. Doesnât it mean that youâre old if I call you uncle? Thatâs why I shouldnât.â
â......â
Daniel was speechless.
A surge of frustration rocked through him!
It appeared that this cheeky child knew that much.
Eventually, he could not come up with something better to say in return. He clenched his fists and said through gritted teeth, âWho says that Iâm an idol? Iâm truly capable and talented! See? Capability!â
Right at this moment, the floor manager came to hurry him.
âElder Brother Daniel, your resting time is up. The fans are getting impatient to see you back on stage. Letâs go!â
Daniel finally snorted and swaggered out of the room.
About half an hour later, the front stage staff called to notify that an old lady was looking for a child. They thought it was highly likely that she was Lizzyâs nana.
Nell reappeared outside with Lizzy in her arms. Indeed, the gray-haired old woman she encountered last time was waiting by the door. Anxiety was written all over her face.
The old woman who was probably in her sixties or seventies took great care of her appearance. She still appeared to be in good health.
Despite that, Nell could not bring herself to comment further as it was not entirely the old womanâs fault. After all, the childâs father could only be blamed for his lack of responsibility. How could he allow the old woman to wander around with the child?
The minute she placed Lizzy to the ground, the little girl dashed toward the old person enthusiastically.
âNana!â
âHey.â
The old person received her with open arms. Then, she rose to her full height and looked at Nell, grinning happily.
âYoung lady, you helped me once more. It seems like weâre undeniably fated!â
Nell forced a smile. âDonât mention it.â
âHey, it might be nothing to you but youâve done me a huge favor! But I donât have much to thank you with. Will you be free later? What about I treat you to a meal?â
Nell instinctively refused. âItâs fine. Iâm busy this afternoon...â
âAunt Nelly, come join us for food. I want to have a meal with you...â
The little one interrupted her right away.
She grabbed on to Nellâs hand and swung it playfully. She tilted her little head back to look at Nell with her big rounded eyes. No one could possibly turn down an invitation coming from such an adorable girl.
