Chapter 130
Spoiled by the President
Nell cleared her throat and smiled apologetically, âMy bad, Iâve been quite busy lately...â
âHah!â On the other side, the man scoffed.
Nell heard the scoff and knew that her excuse failed.
She quickly changed the topic instead. âUh, I planned on coming back today. I was just about to leave when you called!â
The manâs tone contained a hint of mockery. âJust about to leave?â
âY-Yep!â
âHmph... Fine. If I donât see you at home in half an hour, youâll suffer the consequences.â
Then, he hung up the phone.
Nellâs expression darkened as she looked at the black phone screen.
This man... Was it necessary to be this bossy?!
Half an hour? The fastest way to Leith Gardens was a 20-minute drive. Did that not mean that she had to leave immediately?
She looked at the mountain of unfinished work piling up in front of her...
Nell rubbed her eyebrows tiredly and sighed.
Forget it! She would deal with it tomorrow!
Thinking so, she shut down the computer, gathered her stuff, and stood up.
It was fine if she remained seated. She had been sitting there all afternoon today, and even her dinner was eaten at her desk.
Thus, as soon as she got up, her entire back felt stiff and sore.
Nell frowned, massaging her back, and walked out with her bag.
Since the company was quite busy, many people stayed to work overtime. Although it was already 9:00 pm, the office was still brightly lit, and everyone was sitting in front of their computers working diligently.
Nell walked out to this scene and felt a little touched.
They were different from her. The company was her business, but to them, it was more likely to be just a job.
Nell clapped her hands, and everyone was attracted by the sound and looked up.
âAttention. Everyone, youâve been busy for so many days. Itâs getting late now, so go back and rest early! You can continue any unfinished work tomorrow!â
Cheers broke out in the office.
âYes! We can finally get off work!â
Nell laughed and finally left.
It was exactly half an hour when she returned to Leith Gardens.
She got out of the car and peered around a little guiltily, and hurriedly sneaked into the living room when she noticed that the man was not around.
Aunt Joyce just entered from outside and saw Nell as she was standing at the door to change her shoes. She exclaimed, âMissus, youâre back!â
Nell smiled awkwardly. âYes, uh... Is Gideon at home?â
âHeâs upstairs in the study.â
Aunt Joyce suddenly hesitated before leaning closer to whisper mysteriously, âYou have to be careful when you go up later. It seems that Mr. Leith has been in a bad mood these days. He even threw a big tantrum at home this evening and didnât eat much for dinner.â
âHuh?â
Nell was surprised.
As far as she knew, although Gideon was a man with a bad temper, he seldom threw tantrums, let alone to the familyâs servants.
He was an extremely cultured and restrained person, and because of his status and aura, people usually did not dare to offend him easily.
Therefore, everyone was cautious when facing him, and he had never been too harsh on his servants.
What happened today?
Nell was confused, but Aunt Joyce continued. âIâm afraid that heâll be hungry tonight, so Iâve been warming up his favorite seafood congee in the kitchen. Theyâre all lighter foods, so if Missus sees that heâs in a better mood later, please advise him to come down and eat! How could he work that hard and not have dinner?â
Nell nodded. âAlright, I got it. Iâll talk to him.â
Then, she changed her shoes and headed inside.
Upstairs, the bedroom was empty. Nell loosened her hair which had been tied for a day and relaxed her tense scalp before changing into her home attire and heading to the study.
The study was dimly lit with a warm glow from an orange floor lamp.
A recliner was placed near the French window. At that moment, a man was leaning back in the recliner with his slender legs crossed, quietly leafing through a book in his hand.
His figure was clear and elegant. The floor lamp shone overhead him and cast long shadows on his angular face, making the already three-
dimensional facial features more profoundly charming.
Nell walked over softly.
Her footsteps were very light, but somehow, just as she was about to reach behind him, she was discovered.
âSo youâre finally back?â
Nell was stunned. She looked around but did not see anything reflective like mirrors.
However, he clearly did not look behind. She had also deliberately taken lighter steps, and her footsteps did not make a sound on the soft carpet, so how did he catch her?
She had originally wanted to scare him a little but was caught red-handed instead. Nell grew slightly embarrassed.
She rubbed her nose and laughed awkwardly.
âWell... Wasnât it you who told me to come back?â
Gideon turned around.
Under the light, the manâs face was as far as jade. His features were sharp and deep, and his dark eyes were as still as a rock as if they were melting into the dark and endless night.
Nell was inexplicably flustered by his look and lost some of her confidence.
She lowered her eyes with a guilty conscience and stood there like a child who had made a mistake.
After an unknown amount of time, the man finally spoke.
âCome here.â
Nell jumped and looked at him in puzzlement, but still obeyed and walked over.
As soon as she approached, her wrist was grabbed. She exclaimed in surprise and was pulled into the manâs lap before she had time to react.
âW-What are you doing?â
The position was so ambiguous that she subconsciously wanted to resist.
Unexpectedly, her soft waist was caught by the man, who said in a deep voice, âStop moving!â
Nell froze and did not dare to move anymore.
Gideon looked at her face up close. The delicate and exquisite features looked a little tired because of the strain of working several days in a row.
Her beautiful eyes were no longer as clear and bright as they used to be, and a few red lines floated faintly underneath them. There was also a dark blue ring underneath the eyes.
Nell grew uncomfortable at his gaze and squirmed awkwardly. âYou... What are you looking at?â
Gideon said indifferently, âAs your husband, I support your career because itâs something that you enjoy. I donât want to have you as a body without a soul and dreams.
âHowever, that doesnât mean that Iâll allow you to pour all your thoughts on it and neglect your body and sleep. Mrs. Leith can have dreams, but I donât need a wife whoâs a model worker, understand?â
He raised his hand to cup her chin, forcing her head up to face him.
