Chapter 1051
Spoiled by the President
Shimon spoke without thinking.
Perhaps the way he said it was not enough to prove his innocence as he paused and then added, âI got chased out by the family because I did something that pissed them off a few days back, so I donât know what happened after that. I know I said I came here on holiday but truthfully, I came here to clear my mind because I was frustrated.â
Gideon was inclined to believe him simply because there was no reason for Shimon to lie.
So he nodded and said, âI see.â
Shimon eyed him silently before working up the courage to ask, âDid something happen?â
Gideon had no reason to hide it from him.
âNell was kidnapped by Jeff.â
âWhat?â
Shimon was stupefied.
He knew little about Jeff Flinders but they were still family and had made contact a few times.
To him, Jeff was not someone you could just call âevilâ since he had never actually killed someone.
However, to call him âgoodâ was completely off the mark as everything he had done was not something a good person would do.
Rather, he walked on the thin line between good and evil.
Even so, Shimon had never heard of him going after an innocent person.
Vickieâs incident was simply because her father had once betrayed him and Vickie herself needed money in a life or death situation, so it was somewhat fair play.
As for Louis... It was less of a threat and more of him giving himself willingly to Jeff.
To call their relationship a âmutual exploitâ was no exaggeration since neither has harmed the other party.
This was why it was such a shock to hear that Jeff had kidnapped Nell and Cathy.
Shimon mulled it over and said in a low voice, âI don't know much about this issue but if he is really behind this, itâs most likely regarding the Heavenly Jade Silk. I havenât talked to him enough to know him well but I do know that he sees fame and wealth as nothing more than water. All he cares about is the silk.â
Gideon nodded. âI think so too, but we know next to nothing about him. Information on him is so scarce that even if you look, nothing turns up. If you can, please tell me what you know about him.â
Gideon never believed Shimon was just a normal person.
He wanted to know how the Flinders came to be and how Louis lived under them.
Jeff was no ordinary person since he had both Louis and the family wrapped around his finger.
Shimon was shaken when he heard Gideonâs question.
He suddenly recalled the first time he met Jeff Flinders.
It was the most mystifying yet terrifying thing he had witnessed with his own two eyes.
If it was not so undeniably real, even he would have wondered if it was just a nightmare.
What kind of monster could just manifest things from thin air and live over a millennium?
Shimon paled slightly.
Meanwhile, Gideon was casually asking to test the waters.
He did not have high hopes that he would get an answer from Shimon since his status in the family was rather unimportant.
Gideon believed that even if Shimon was told to do something for Jeff, it was unlikely that he would have revealed anything to him.
Though seeing Shimonâs face change now made him think twice.
Did he actually know something?
Gideon furrowed his brows at the thought.
He hinted to his men to secretly block the exits and prevent Shimon from escaping, but to begin with, the man had never thought of running.
âI can tell you about it, but you have to swear that no one will know I told you, regardless if you believe me or not.â
Gideon was taken aback.
However, he nodded without hesitation.
âYou have my word.â
Shimon paused before saying in a low voice, âLetâs find a better spot to talk. Itâs too open here.â
With that, he walked towards the back of the temple.
Gideon naturally followed.
Soon, they were in a secluded and private room.
Gideon had his men stand guard outside to prevent interruptions before sitting down on a futon, facing Shimon.
âItâs much quieter here and the people outside are my men. No one will hear a peep of this. Now, will you tell me?â
Shimon nodded.
There was a pot of tea for guests in the room but it had gone cold. After all, who knew how long it had been there for.
Shimon did not care and poured himself a cup anyway.
He frowned silently, confused as to what had caused this reaction in Shimon.
It seemed as if the man was mentally preparing himself so Gideon waited for him patiently.
After a few minutes, Shimon finished his cup of cold tea and forced himself to calm down.
He looked up at Gideon calmly before he asked, âMr. Leith, do you believe in immortality?â
Gideon raised an eyebrow.
That was an unexpected question from Shimon.
Gideon too was a non-believer.
Until that one incident...
His expression grew more solemn at those thoughts and he replied, âYes, I do.â
Shimon was stunned as he stared at him in disbelief.
He did not expect that answer from Gideon.

Gideon responded monotonously, âJust because I don't believe in God doesn't mean I don't believe you can become immortal.â
