Chapter 1010
Spoiled by the President
Nell was startled by her question.
She definitely did not ever think about going after immortality or anything like that.
The Arcane Jades being able to bring about immortality sounded like a farce, and she never had believed it.
Nevertheless, her disbelief did not mean that everyone else shared her sentiment.
Just look at someone as intelligent as Jeff. Was he not after immortality as religiously as those people were?
Nell could feel a headache creeping in with that thought.
She heaved a sigh and said, âJan, do you still remember that time when we went to Gregory and Vickieâs wedding, and she fainted during the event?â
Janet froze. âOf course I remember that. What does the jade have to do with them?â
âEverything about it has to do with them. This jade Iâm asking you to look for - they are the ones who asked me for help to find it.â
Janet was taken aback by her words.
Nell felt that she could not hide anything from her anymore.
After all, if Janetâs information was accurate, Gregory and Vickie would not be able to avoid a trip to Country F. She had to tell her the truth then.
Hence, she told Janet about how Shimon disclosed Vickieâs background to Gregory and how the couple made a deal with Jeff.
Janet was exceedingly astonished by Nellâs story.
She had always thought it was Nell who needed it. Who would have thought it was Vickie?
âSo youâre saying that Vickieâs life will be in danger if we donât find the last five Arcane Jades before Chinese New Year?â
Nellâs expression sank. âYou can say that.â
âThat man named Jeff - how can he be so heartless? Heâs playing with peopleâs lives as if they are nothing. Doesnât he have a wife or daughter?â
Nell broke into a smile when she heard the rage in her voice.
Janet was being her usual self again.
No matter how old she was and how much she had been through, her heart would always stay as innocent and pure as ever.
In her mind, good and bad were divided clearly as two different things. There could be no gray area in between.
However, she forgot that there were some people in this world who could not be categorized as either good or bad.
A murderer could practice filial piety, and a father who loved his kids could turn out to be a serial killer too.
Nell sighed but did not tell her anything.
She only grinned and said, âI donât know if he has a wife or children. Anyway, thank you for helping us out with this. Go ask around and see if what you heard is true. Iâll let Vickie know if it is.â
Janet nodded. She just realized the severity of the situation, so she did not have the mood to joke around.
âDonât worry. You can trust me with this. Iâll make sure to verify the information for you.â
Nell stayed on the line for a few minutes before finally hanging up.
Janet moved fast.
She had just spoken with Nell during the day, but it did not take long for her to call Nell back again that same night.
âNelly, Iâve got something on my end. That uncleâs last name is indeed Alfuth, and he does have one of the Arcane Jades. It was about five years ago when the jades first got discovered that he managed to acquire one for his own collection through a jade salesman. But I heard him saying that he suspects the jade he has is a fake one because he heard that the real one was sold in an auction not long ago.â
Nell froze. âAn auction?â
âYeah, I think itâs the one that was held in... Lin City.â
Nell frowned.
An auction in Lin City? The Arcane Jade?
That made no sense. If there was an Arcane Jade in Lin City, there was no way Gregory would not know about it.
After all, Lin City was Gregoryâs territory.
With that thought in mind, she was not in a hurry to give her take on Janetâs theory. Instead, she said, âI got it. Iâll ask them about that and call you back. That Uncle Alfuth you mentioned, please help me get a hold of him regardless of whether the jade he has is the real one. Donât tell him anything yet though. Iâll let you know if anything new comes up.â
Janet made a sound of affirmation. âGot it.â
They hung up the phone right then.
After that phone call, Nell dialed Vickieâs number.
She told her about everything Janet had uncovered over the phone.
Vickie laughed when she was done. âSomething like that did happen, but it was the Flinders Clan who had organized the auction. We didnât hear about it then. Now that I think about it, it seems like Jeff might have put his plans in motion as early as the auction.
âHe deliberately called for an auction just so Gregory and I would attend and buy that jade from him, stirring our interest in it. Then, he announced my illness during my wedding. Itâs a shame that we didnât notice anything back then. Anyhow, we still walked further and further into his trap.â
Nell felt like Vickie just told her an incredulous story.
âYou have the Arcane Jade then?â
âYes, but itâs back in Jeffâs possession now.â
Nell was silent for a moment.
âWhat do you think then? Do you think Uncle Alfuth has the real Arcane Jade?â
âIt doesnât matter. We must check it out as long as thereâs news. Weâll know once weâre there.â
Nell nodded.
âIf thatâs the case, Iâll let Janet know about this. We can go together when the time comes.â
Vickie agreed to the plan.
Nell hung up and ruminated in silence for a while. Then, she went downstairs to look for Gideon.
It was only 8.00 pm. They had just finished dinner, and Gideon had promised the kids that he would play with them, so he was in the playroom right now in the company of two chubby kids.
When Nell entered the room, she saw them sitting on the carpet, and Gideon was teaching the kids how to play with legos.
Although Little Viemond was only three years old, his IQ was higher than other kids his age. He had already built a lot of things with the legos.
Even the teachers in his school praised him for his intelligence.
Gideon had always been proud of that. He thought it was because he had strong genes that his children were all born inherently smart.
Nell laughed at his way of thinking but did not say anything else.
Gideon waved her in when he saw her approaching.
âWhy did you come down? Werenât you taking a rest in the bedroom?â
Nellâs pregnancy was growing more and more obvious. That was because she was having twins, so even her stomach was growing a little bigger than usual.
Normally, the stomach would not show any evident signs of pregnancy if she was only three or four months in.
Be that as it may, Nellâs stomach was already protruding just a little, and her weight was increasing by the day.
Gideon was afraid that she would exhaust herself, so he asked her to go to their bedroom to rest up after they had taken a walk after dinner.
Nell gave him a smile and made her way to him. âI have something to tell you.â
Gideon met her eyes and knew that it was something important.
He turned and said to the two kids, âYou guys play among yourself for a little bit, okay? Mommy and I have to go outside for a moment.â
The two kids had been hanging around the couple so much lately that they did not kick up a fuss at the sight of them leaving. They nodded thoughtfully instead.
âDaddy, go accompany mommy. We can play on our own.â
