Chapter 1447
The Protector levi garrison
âTo recuperate, and to kill someone.â
Levi wasnât lying. It was essentially what he did in Keerea.
âSpeaking of recuperation⦠Itâs amazing that youâre fully recovered now,â Zoey smiled, taking his word for it.
Life went back on track after their reunion. However, the news that Levi was back in Erudia had spread like wildfire, stirring up negative sentiments among the people.
âHow dare this traitor show his face here!â
âHe should be hanged for treason!â
As his name was not cleared, many called to have his head on a stick. Even Emma was targeted by some of the more vigorous jingoists.
Despite the grim situation, Levi knew he had to tough it out for a while longer to evade undue attention from the enemy and to keep Prince William and his ilk in the dark.
At the moment, he focused on the operation of investigating and tracking down The Avengers.
It would not take very long for Prince William to realize that the drug was a fake. Hence, he needed to act fast.
West Sky Lord approached him with a stack of documents. âMaster, Iâve collated the intel from the investigation over the past two months. Please have a look. These documents contain the information you requestedâall the suspicious cases of criminal suspects in the last century who had supposedly committed heinous crimes but were not convicted and had either gone missing or were assumed dead.â
He highlighted a particular profile to Levi. âTake this guy for exampleâEugene Gordon. He was once the patriarch of the richest and most powerful family in the South. That family had disappeared overnight, and he was also presumed dead. Before that happened, it was said that he had been secretly selling national treasures on the black market. If convicted, it would be a major offense.â
Levi drummed a finger on the table, reading Gordonâs profile carefully. âHe was dead just as he was about to be convicted? Itâs suspicious indeed. Was his body ever found?â
âNo. The case eventually went cold because they couldnât find his body.â
West Sky Lord handed him another dossier. âThereâs also this guyâJay Wagner. He was the specialist combat instructor for the Northern troops forty years ago. They found him guilty of leaking classified information to foreign countries. It was said that he had killed himself just before his final trial and the body had gone missing.â
Levi nodded. âItâs another suspicious case.â
West Sky Lord went on. âSkylar Shenton was the godson of the head of the Northrush Clan. He would have been the next in line for the clan head position if he werenât such a bad egg. After committing countless atrocities, they eventually banished him from the clan. Just as he was about to be brought to justice, he escaped overseas and stayed off the grid ever since.â
âI see. Carry on.â
Several other suspects were highlighted in West Sky Lordâs presentation, all of whom matched the modus operandi of The Avengers.
If the Erudian government had not attempted to prosecute them, they would have been the cream of the crop in society, leading extravagant lives. Hence, they blamed Erudia for ruining what they had. It was plausible that they banded together to form The Avengers because of their hatred.
âI wouldnât be surprised that all of those who you just listed are part of The Avengers,â Levi said pensively. âThey have the motivation and the resources to do it.â
He pondered the next move carefully. âGood job, West. See if you can match these profiles to the ones we know in The Avengers.â
âUnderstood! Master, thereâs one last profile you should seeâ¦â He grimaced. âItâs pretty appalling. And the suspect is a woman.â
It immediately reminded Levi of Black Phoenix. âHow appalling?â
Curiosity piqued, he took the documents and started perusing.
