The Rise of an Omega ✓
The next few days passed as a blur to Amelia, only remembering bits of it.
There were voices, too many of them near Amelia. She didn't recognize any of them, but she wasn't sure if she would've been able to with the unbearable pain in her head. It felt as if there was an invisible hand crushing her skull. It hurt so much she blacked out a few seconds after waking up.
The second memory is almost as blurred. This time her head wasn't hurting as much, the pain had relieved a little bit, only enough for her to feel her ribs aching. She was more conscious and tried to turn her head ignoring the massive pain the movement caused. She felt a soft fabric under her, and paying attention she noticed it was a bed, but it was way too fluffy to be her own bed.
She heard someone speaking, she couldn't understand what they were saying though, and she couldn't focus her vision but she could see the silhouette of a person in the daylight as they approached her. That was when everything went dark again.
The third time she woke up she was feeling a lot better. Still with her eyes closed, she did a mental check up on herself. The skull-crushing hand wasn't there anymore, she felt her head throb a little but it was nothing compared to how much it hurt before. Her ribs were a bit sore but she could handle it. With slow moves, she opened her right hand and then closed it again.
She took a deep breath and it was when she noticed the voices - angry voices. She was so focused on trying to feel every part of her body that she didn't hear them, even if it was difficult to miss taking into account that whoever those people were, they aren't trying to be discrete.
"All I am saying is to not jump into conclusions. Let's wait for the girl to wake up and then we decide what to do with her." A frustrated male voice argued.
"No one here is making conclusions. We've talked about it. The girl stays until she is fully recovered. I've seen the way that woman treats her, she won't take care of her the way we can do." Another man said angrily. His voice was strong and he pronounced every word like it was a command. Amelia wanted to see where the voices were coming from. She turned her head to the right. "And I don't want to hear another..." He stops talking when Amelia let out a small whimper. Her head wasn't as critical as before but it wasn't great either.
Silence filled the room. When Amelia realized they had noticed she was awake she stopped moving. She didn't open her eyes either, wanting them to be the first to say or do something. They didn't disappoint. A few seconds after, she heard a thick but sweet voice. "Oh please, you guys woke her up with this stupid discussion." Footsteps could be heard going toward the bed where Amelia laid.
The person stopped once they were near the bed, then they sat on it. "Hello," They greeted in a sweet tone. "Can you open your eyes?" An unknown feeling of safeness spread through Amelia's chest. Somehow she knew she could trust this person. So she did as they said.
Beautiful hazel eyes were the first thing Amelia saw when she opened her eyes. The woman was tall, even sitting on the bed Amelia needed to look up to see her face. Her sweet smile and shoulder-length black hair were the next things she noticed. "Are you feeling pain?"
Amelia pondered for a few seconds. "Nothing I can't tolerate." She whispered.
The woman let a chuckle as if she was expecting it. "As I thought." She paused and watched carefully Amelia's face. "Can you tell us your name?"
Only at the mention of "us" Amelia remembered there were other people in the room. She looked over the woman's shoulder and saw two men. She recognized them, they were the ones leaving the clinic that day. The shorter was blonde, short hair, and hazel eyes. But like the other time, who caught her attention was the taller.
Because it was daytime and she was so close, she could see him better, and she was fascinated. There was a sunshine lighting right in his face. His hair looked lighter, softer. His eyes were brighter than last time, and they were more golden than the others in the room. At this distance, she could see the soft pink color of his lips.
He narrowed his eyes playfully tilting his head a little to the right, his lips curving into a small and sweet smile and she noticed he was watching her as intensely as she was watching him. She felt her face warm up in embarrassment, blinking a few times to get rid of the enchantment and looked again at the woman that was already observing her with a little knowing smile. She remembered they were waiting for an answer.
"I am Amelia." She said, this time louder, and soon after she coughed. Her throat was dry and her voice was hoarse. The woman handed her a glass of water that was laying on the table beside the bed. Amelia took a few sips slowly, trying not to choke and make a fool of herself in front of them. "My name is Amelia". She repeated after giving the empty glass back, now with a clear voice.
"Well, Amelia, do you remember why you are here?" The blonde asked harshly only to receive death look from the other two.
"I am Taylor." The woman introduced herself gently, ignoring what the man said. "The one that can't keep his mouth shut is Matthew." She pointed at the blonde who rolled his eyes at his description. "And this is Ethan." Finally, she could put a name to the face. Amelia looked at Ethan and he smiled kindly at her.
She didn't know much about them. Only their names and possibly where they work, but she felt welcomed at their house - or what she supposed to be their house. She wasn't freaking out as she thought she would, waking up in an unknown place with strangers surrounding her. Even if Matthew was being inexplicably hostile, there was a good energy in the place that Amelia couldn't really put a finger on. But she could feel it.
"I don't know how much of it you remember, but I brought you here after I found you hurt on the forest," Taylor declared carefully, watching Amelia's face close to any indication of discomfort for the subject. When Amelia didn't react she continued. "I heard you screaming and ran for you, I am sorry I was so late." She paused doing a sad face, showing she really meant it, even if Amelia didn't even think about it she could say Taylor felt guilty. In an unexpected move, Amelia's hand covered Taylor's.
"I am not sure I would be alive if it wasn't for you finding me. Don't blame yourself for not arriving earlier. Things did work out in the end, didn't they?" Amelia affirmed, sincerely surprising herself. It had to be the longest sentence she said to a stranger and she didn't stutter even once. Taylor smiled and she immediately liked the woman.
"When I found you, there was a man there..." She was watching Amelia's face grimacing. "You know why he hurt you?". She finally made the one question Amelia didn't know the answer. She sighed and shook her head negatively.
"I have no idea. I was just going to my grandmother's house when I felt there was someone there. He approached me and attacked. I ran but I got distracted and feel. He said something about a job maybe?" Amelia added confused. "And payment. But I couldn't understand him, my head was hurting too much for me to pay attention. I just wanted to hurt him enough for him to stop chasing me." Amelia spoke quickly, her voice full of emotion, looking in no particular direction as she remembered the events.
She saw Taylor glance behind her to Ethan and the two of them sharing a gaze, both doing sad faces. Matthew was silent, watching Amelia as if judging if she was saying the truth. What is his problem? Amelia thought. Why would I lie about it? She was getting annoyed at the young man who didn't seem to be more than eighteen.
"He was a hunter. Did you know this?" This time it was Ethan who spoke. Amelia was relieved to hear his voice much softer than when he spoke to Matthew only a few moments earlier, she was sure she would cry if that tone was directed to her.
"Yes, I saw some of them at the municipal fair. They hunt animals." It was all Amelia knew about them. She always found them scary.
"They hunt more than only animals..." Ethan said thoughtfully. When he didn't say anything else Amelia frowned.
"What are you talking about?" She tried to sit on the bed to discover that her head was feeling really heavy. Taylor helped her, pulling her up by her arm delicately. Once she was sitting she looked at Ethan again waiting for him to answer.
"I am guessing you know about werewolves, right?" He questioned and Amelia wanted to hide. He remembers me, she thought, and he thinks I am a part of that stupid cult. She was so embarrassed her cheeks were feeling hot.
"The mythological creatures? Yes, I know." She said calmly, wanting to show him that she wasn't one of the crazy people who frequents her house. Then, she noticed she didn't know what it had to do with anything else, so she questioned. "What about it?"
Again, Ethan and Taylor shared a look, it was obvious to Amelia that they know each other so well that they didn't even need words to communicate. Matthew remained silent, looking at her genuinely upset. What is going on?
"Have you ever notice something different about you, Amelia?" Taylor asked with her kind nature. Amelia frowned, not understanding what she really wanted to know. "Like your senses, aren't they stronger than other people? Like you could smell something that is far from you or hear a car that was blocks away?" Amelia was getting suspicious.
"What? No." She answered quickly, not wanting them to think she was a freak. But then added when she noticed she said it too fast for them to believe. "Maybe when I was a kid. But it is normal." She acknowledged looking at each one of them trying to seem as convincing as possible.
"And aren't you stronger than other people?" Taylor continued with the mysterious questions making Amelia feel uncomfortable. She wasn't liking where it was going, she wanted Taylor to stop asking things.
"What is going on?" She asked looking at them confused. "Why are you asking these weird questions?" She was beginning to sound frustrated. Ethan then came closer to the bed, standing in front of Amelia and putting one knee on the floor to be on her eye level. Amelia was watching him carefully, trying to understand what he was doing.
"Look, Amelia. There isn't an easy way to tell you this. We were hoping you already knew... it would make things easier." He paused frowning and glancing up at Taylor that nodded her head, encouraging him to continue, but Ethan remained quiet looking at the bed as if thinking about the next words he would say. Amelia couldn't bear it anymore, they were scaring and confusing her and she didn't know what to expect. That wasn't a sensation she wanted to have.
"Can you just tell me, please? I feel like you guys are going to tell me I am going to die. What I should already know? What is going on?" She asked. She didn't care if she was appearing frantic now, because it was exactly how she was feeling.
She was looking at Ethan now as if he was her only hope to understand it all. Her golden-amber eyes were begging him to tell her whatever it was. He sighed, closed his eyes pressing the bridge of his nose with his index finger and middle finger. "The reason why that man was hunting you, was because he is a werewolf hunter." He paused looking at Amelia's face to see if she got what he was saying so he didn't need to finish, but her eyebrows only grew more wrinkled. "And you are a werewolf, Amelia". He professed and the room fell in silence.
