Chapter 74
Struggle in Ancient Times
The annual lantern festival was here and Liao Tingyu came back early from his school.
He put on his best clothes, a hair crown he never worn and a jade pendant on his waist. He brought out the fan given by his studentâs parents.
After two turns around, he looked like a romantic young man.
Liao Tingyu admired himself, the young master who didnât look like others in this world.
Mother Deng was busy in the yard and saw her youngest son come and go. As a result, she saw he was wearing old clothes and came back with new clothes.
She looked at him left and right in surprise, âMy son is indeed very elegant and handsome. His demeanour like a purple star descending from the sky. But why do you dress up like this?â
Liao Tingyu smiled gently, âI want to go out and play with my friends.â
Mother Deng nodded. It was time for him to play and have fun. Tonight, was rare time, mother Deng looked at Liao Tingyu thoughtfully. She didnât know how many people would be attracted by her handsome son. It would be best if he came back with another one today.
âThen you have fun. Mother will wait for you at home.â
Liao Tingyu never play in the lantern festival but he had heard about the grand occasion.
Huang Hao invited him before but he didnât go because he was short of money.
Huang Hao was sitting in the lobby, he felt a little impatient, âWhy is he changing clothes for so long? Itâs really annoying!â
Huang Yujin calmly drinking his tea, âYou have to be patient. With this kind of temper, how will you have a wife. Calm down, situation like this will happen all the time.â
Huang Hao felt his head was almost exploded. Why should he calm down?
It had been an hour since Liao Tingyu handed the invitation as soon as he was done with classes. Even if he was crawling like a turtle in the yard, he would have made a circle by now.
Huang Hao fanned himself annoyedly and went out to find a servant, âGo for me and ask him, why is it taking so long? If he continues like this, people will leave.â
Speaking of Cao Cao, Cao Cao arrived. He saw Liao Tingyu came in.
Huang Hao said with playful smile, âLiao-xiong, why didnât I notice you move so slowly before? There is only short distance between our house to yours.â
Liao Tingyu didnât care about him, âTonight is a rare day. In order to show grandness, I specially took more time to prepare.â
Huang Hao took a look and had to say, Liao Tingyu was really good-looking right now.
He didnât notice it before, but now that he wore gorgeous clothes. It looked really good, âI didnât realize it before, my brother had such romantic side. I see that a man needs clothes and good horse. Today, Iâm afraid there will be many pouches for you to hold. But you have to remember your brother here.â
âYou and I are brothers. Of course, I will share some.â Liao Tingyu didnât mind to take care of him.
When they came to the main room, Liao Tingyu met Huang Yujin, âI havenât seen uncle for a long time. But you still have the same charm.â
âWhat charm? Have you seen my uncleâs big belly.â Huang Hao said without a fear of death.
Huang Yujin didnât get angry, he just put his cup aside, âYou kid like to talk nonsense. Come, sit down. Bring over the mountain-silver tea I just got.â
Huang Hao widened his eyes; he had begged for that thing for a long time.
âMy dear nephew, donât be restrained. Just tell them what do you want to eat and drink.â Huang Yuji told Liao Tingyu.
Huang Hao watched the servant took out the tea he had dreamed about, his mouth was gaping like a goldfish.
Huang Yujin didnât spare him a glance.
He had no choice but glanced at Liao Tingyu for help. Liao Tingyu smiled kindly and took the tea with a smile and turned to give Huang Hao beaming wide smile.
Huang Hao said, âGive me some.â
Liao Tingyu replied, âKeep dreaming. Although it was good but donât do it too much.â
Huang Yujin saw the two men bellow with a smile. Young things werenât good as old things like him.
It was already dush when they went out and the lanterns began to lit up on the street.
Liao Tingyu, Huang Hao and Huang Zilan walked toward the lantern festival.
It was already dark when they arrived but the exquisite lanterns lit up the dark night.
Huang Zilan was wearing green clothes with sapphire blue stripes. Under the light of candlelight, his whole looked shining and beautiful.
âMy cousin chose his clothes well. They arenât too grand or simple. They match with my friendâs really well. The two of you looked like a couple.â Huang Hao flattered the ger for the tea.
Huang Zilan was a little embarrassed. He didnât know why but he liked this one after choosing for a long time.
Liao Tingyu was a person with thick-skin, âThatâs because we have certain understanding. As for you, Iâm afraid no one would match your yellow colour.â
Huang Hao looked at his shy cousin and then at his romantic brother. He felt like he was all alone with his suaveness.
Hm⦠even after together for a long time, he still didnât get the two. Now, he was left all alone. Isnât it a bit unlucky? Could it be it was a bad day for him?
Huang Hao turned his head and looked at the two people holding hands, he didnât know when they got closer.
âAm I afraid of being alone in this lantern festival? You two are a pair. I thought you would get some pouches today. I think you canât compare to my single self.â
Huang Zilan listened to Huang Haoâs heroic words and shily took out a pouch embroidered with orchids from his sleeve, âI made this one. I hope you wonât dislike it.â
Liao Tingyu took it carefully and said, âThis pouch of yours is worth thousands, I am satisfied. Letâs see your cousin performance tonight.â
Huang Zilan nodded cooperatively, âOkay, I believe my cousin is very good. Uncle had been talking about a wife for you for a long time. Take this chance to see someone you like. Of course, you can take him with you, let uncle saw your pouch so he would feel at east. Liao-xiucai, if you have more please give it to my cousin. My uncle really worried about him.â
âDonât worry. I will help him; he is my friend after all.â
Huang Hao looked at the two as if he had eaten 50.000 tons of dog food.
He felt a little panic, if it was really true that he couldnât even get one pouch. Then his faceâ¦
Forget it, he better stayed away from them, âOkay, you two go ahead. Donât worry about me. Go and have a good time. Why donât you hurry up and get lost.â
âWhat people enjoy is the atmosphere, we like to take it slowly and spent the night. People like you who didnât have partner would never understand.â Liao Tingyu gently said his poisonous words.
Huang Hao covered his heart which had been pierced by a sharp sword. The key was, he couldnât reply. So, he simply turned around them and walked away first without saying a word.
The two people left behind looked at each other with affection.
Huang Hao glanced back occasionally. Sure enough, these two were destined to be married. It was best to stay away from them, in case he got stabbed again.
âIs this really, okay?â Huang Zilan looked worriedly at Huang Haoâs disappearing figure.
âHis endurance is unmatched by ordinary people.â Liao Tingyu said without worry, âYour father asked me to help your cousin make up his mind for marriage. Otherwise, the two of usâ¦â Liao Tingyuâs words were left unfinished.
Huang Zilan blushed and interrupted, âLetâs go quickly. My cousin had gone very far.â
When they arrived at the busiest street where the lantern festival was held, it was already crowded.
Liao Tingyu saw candied hawthorn on the roadside, which was a common snack here. He bought one for Huang Zilan.
Huang Zilan took it, âThank you, do you donât want one?â
âI donât like eating this. But I heard you like sweet and sour things. If we got further, Iâm afraid we couldnât buy one at that time.â
Huang Zilan followed his gaze and saw most of the stalls were selling lanterns.
Liao Tingyu, was truly a careful person. Huang Zilan tasted the candied hawthorn carefully. In fact, the taste was the same like every other one he ate. But he felt it was sweeter tonight.
Huang hao had the temperament of scholar, he didnât walk very far before a lady studded a pouch for him. It was a beautiful one, he walked to Liao Tingyu and proudly showed it off.
âIt seems that I am more popular than you. Weâve been walking for so long but no one give you yet.â
âThatâs because I donât need it.â Liao Tingyu replied with a smile and looked at someone beside him with affectionate eyes.
This kind of person truly reminded Huang Hao that he was still single.
Huang Hao felt he was his show off was for nothing, âOkay. I wonât be with you two. I will find my own fun.â
This sentence exactly what Liao Tingyu wanted to hear, âOkay, if itâs late I will send Zilan home. You donât have to worry.â
Huang Hao didnât actually mean what he said, so he looked at Huang Zilan for help.
Huang Zilan received his signal, âCousin, it was fine. You go play alone, itâs best if you bring a sister-in-law for me. I believe in you.â
After saying that the two walked hand in hand in the sea of people.
Liao Tingyu asked him, âI see there are many people holding a lantern. Is there anything that you like?â
âHow about this?â Huang Zilan walked to a red peony lantern on the roadside, it was very delicate and cute, âI want the red one. How about you take the purple one?â
Liao Tingyu looked at the lantern and thought it looked good.
After he paid them, the two carried each one and walked among the crowd. To make sure they didnât get lose, he handed his sleeve to Huang Zilan.
Huang Zilan glanced at it and took it with a rosy face.
Some bold shuangers and girls saw the two was like a pair but still handed Liao Tingyu their pouches. Huang Zilan was a little jealous, he bumped his lantern with Liao Tingyuâs and pouted.
Liao Tingyu looked at his jealous look and moved his sleeve, he quickly led him forward.
At the end of the street was a river. There were many old women selling lanterns by the river. There were some scholars who set up a stall to write wishes.
âHow about we put our lantern on the river?â Liao Tingyu asked Huang Zilan who looked at the river happily.
âOkay.â
Putting lantern on the river had very beautiful meaning, watching the lanterns swayed together and their wishes were whispered in their heart together with the lanterns disappearing on the river.
Huang Zilan looked at the smiling young man beside him and closed his eyes piously. May this flowing water carried his dreams to distant places, may this all last forever.
In the magical atmosphere, Liao Tingyu felt everything was beautiful tonight. He exerted all his boyfriend power. It looked good? Then buy it. beautiful? Buy it again.
After returning home with load of things in his hands, Huang Zilan walked with a smile on his face.
The old father at home hasnât gone to sleep yet. He actually wanted to see the lively festival but in order not to make his future son-in-law uncomfortable, he endured and didnât go out with the children.
When he saw his child came back, he rushed to ask, âHow was it? How did you play today? What did you see?â
In fact, he didnât need to ask. His childâs rosy face, full smile and load of things were enough to know. Tonight, was very fun for him.@@novelbin@@
After realizing it, Huang Yujin asked again, âIt looks like you have good time tonight. How was it? your father has a good taste huh? At first glance, I found you the best man among men.â
âIt was obviously my cousin who introduced him to me but you are trying to take credit.â Huang Zilan felt his father really had thick face like the city wall.
âThat must be my good eyes. Who would have thought that a poor scholar with little fields, could buy a shop in the town so fast. Although it wasnât a large shop but it was still a shop.â Huang Yujin thought of the young man with old washed clothes when he first came.
But today, he was wearing brand new clothes, looking very gentle and calm.
At first, he was a little worried his child wouldnât be able to live with others. It was good for the son-in-law to be poor but being rich was much better.
He looked at his child who was deeply in love and unable to extricate himself.
Huang Yujin felt a little emotional, he was indeed a good father who knew how to prepare for rainy days. Such a good son-in-law, he finally was able to find it.
Liao Tingyu also received a grand welcome when he got home.
In fact, mother Deng only realized after Liao Tingyu were gone.
Today was the lantern festival!! He dressed grandly that it must be to meet someone. She had to see how many pouches her youngest son brought back.
She didnât have time to sleep or to do anything else right now. As for Liao Ming, he felt very excited when he heard mother Dengâs thoughts.
And Liao Shi was here to join the fun.
