If it had not been for him, that girl might have passed away, so Ji Ziming wholly believed that there was no one else who could treat kidsâ problems better than Joe and whom he could trust more than him.
âIâm very sure about this.â
There was a glow in Pei Geâs eyes.
âWhy is that?â
Joe, who was preparing to keep his items, paused and looked at the woman. He actually found her to possess charisma which made others have a lasting impression of her. She was different from the others he had met previously.
He enjoyed spicy food, especially the exceptionally spicy ones, and precisely because of this, he had been to many places just to sample on their spiciest cuisines. Joe appreciated women with natural beauty and disliked those who had undergone cosmetic surgery. Although Pei Ge was not a devastating beauty, she easily caught his eye.
As the pair continued their discussion, Ji Ziming did not speak a word. He was like air, but none could treat him like one.
âWhenever I get sick or injured, my boy always shows concern for me. Our relationship has improved recently, too. Heâs already calling me âmommyâ but even though Iâve brought him to America for two days, he still canât forget about that woman.â
âI think Iâve gotten a good idea on what your childâs condition is. Donât worry; Iâll look for similar cases tonight when I get home. When you bring the boy over, Iâll see if thereâs anything special about him.â
âThanks, doc.â
Pei Ge smiled. She then frowned when she noticed the man next to her. âZiming, do you have anything to add to what Iâve said?â
âI have none,â replied the man. The way he looked at Joe had a touch of wariness.
âIf thereâs anything youâre unsure about my son, you can ask me.â
His lips curled. The threat in his eyes was transmitted to the doctor.
Slouching in his chair, Joe smiled. âYouâre really petty. Iâve merely spoken to your wife, yet youâre already feeling unhappy?â
âIf you dare to have any thoughts about her, this hospital will be transferred to my name by tomorrow.â He stood up, his body looking tall and imposing as it blocked the sunlight streaming from the window.
As his frame cast a shadow on Pei Ge, she only felt that his pettiness was quite adorable.
âGe Ge, letâs go.â
The man pulled her hand as he headed for the exit.
Joe, who was feeling bummed, shouted angrily, âJi Ziming, Iâm your sonâs doctor; how dared you threaten me! Arenât you afraid that Iâll do something?â
âDonât you dare!â
His authoritative voice shut the other up. Looking at his aloof stature, the doctor could not resist scolding, âWho likes your wife? Do you think all men in the world like her?â
Alas, this was heard by the man, who then replied sweetly, âThatâs right. Thatâs because sheâs the prettiest and sexiest woman on Earth. I wonât let any male, who shows even the slightest interest in her, off.â
âWhat if thatâs a dog?ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Joe could not believe that, after a few years of not seeing each other, his friend would transform from a topnotch big boss to a crazy, wife-lover. This thought did not deter him from retaliating, nonetheless.
âAre you talking about yourself?â
Pei Ge, who was not annoyed by the manâs display, burst out laughing. âIf you speak further, he wonât be happy to see us when we visit him with our son. What if he bears grudges and gets even with you then?â
âHe wonât because I have half the shares of this hospital. If he dares to offend me, I can sell it at once and give all his fatherâs inheritance to others.â
The man peered into his womanâs beautiful orbs with a smile, his voice sounding enchanting. âLetâs go home.â
âJi Ziming, youâre insane! Couldnât you spare a thought for a lonely man like me? Youâre even threatening me with my inheritance. Let me tell you that I wonât let others buy it!â
Joe refused to admit defeat despite having never won in a spat with the man.
Neither in the present or in the future.
The man was not bothered even though he heard otherâs words. He walked to the elevator with Pei Ge, and following the ding of the closing elevator doors, the woman saw that familiar-looking figure she had spotted earlier at the carpark.
She wanted to take a closer look, but the person disappeared as the doors closed.
Sensing that something was off about the woman beside him, Ji Ziming looked down at her questioningly. âWhatâs wrong?â
âI seem to have seen that person again.â
There was a slight uneasiness in the womanâs heart, though she could not tell why. She had not even clearly seen that personâs looks or dress and merely caught a moving shadow from the corner of her eyes.
âYou did?â
The manâs vision became clouded as he lifted her chin with some pressure and peered into her eyes.
Her eyes fluttered, and his dark orbs captured this.
âIâm telling the truth,â said the woman seriously as the man showed his desire to kiss her.
âReally?â
Doubt sprouted in his heart. The people he had placed in this hospital were always on guard, so if there was any suspicious person around, how come they did not get alerted to this?
âWhat did you see?â
Ji Zimingâs face darkened; nothing was more important to him than her safety.
âIâm unsure. I only saw a vague shadow. I couldnât even tell if that person was wearing a suit or a jacket.â
Pei Ge looked at the man, feeling vexed. She wanted to have a closer look at both times, but the person disappeared each instance as though they had never been there. If she had not seen it with her two eyes twice, she would have suspected that she was imagining it.
âOther than that, did you notice anything else?â
The man wanted to know more for he wanted to ensure this womanâs safety.
