Chapter 19: Three Powers
I Have Decided to Protect My Fiancé from the Heroine
The next day, I was summoned by father to meet him in the throne room.
When I entered the throne room, father and mother were there, with serious faces. I greeted them, and they nodded. Usually, they would greet me back, but not today, it seems.
"Liliane, come here."
My father beckons, telling me to come closer.
When I reach him, he stands up and motions a guard to come. The guard came with a fancy box. Father starts talking with a solemn expression.
"Liliane, I know that your party didn't last very long, and you didn't get to open your present."
...what?
Mother continues.
"We were going to give you a jewel for your blessing, if you got one. The news of three blessings surprised us, so we couldn't get you the best jewels for your second and third blessing. I'm really sorry dear."
...again, what?
"These were the best we could do."
She takes the box in her hands and opens it. Inside, there are three sparkling jewels. One is a black zircon briolette, another is an old European diamond. The last one is a marquis poudretteite. They are all the size of my fist.
...
I don't even know what to say anymore.
Here I thought there's something really important to discuss about, and it was about my gems. I seem to have underestimated the royal family. They're very scary people.
Giving up, I thank mother and father for the gems, and excuse myself to meet my magic teacher, Ms. Krayla.
She was hired a few weeks beforehand because she would probably be taken as a teacher for other nobles. She is still 18 years old, and an earth mage prodigy. Every student of hers became at least a C V rank mage by the age of 25. She herself is a A III rank. She is going to help me learn everything about my natural element, which is earth, tut no one can help me on my blessing's power, as it is a personal spell.
When I arrive on the training grounds, a young brunette with a witch's hat and hand greets me. With long braids and a simple forest green dress, she starts the lesson right away.
"First, we will start with the basic of the basics. Learning how to control your magical energy, in short, mana. Your mana resides in the depth of your soul. You can only access it by pulling it through your body with a strong image. You may imagine whatever is easiest, but to start, try an image of a lake. The lake is your pool of mana. From there, imagine a stream, flowing through your body, then let it sit and drip out from your fingertips. This process may take a few weeks to get used to, so don't get discouraged if you can't do--"
Ms. Krayla stops talking as she sees the me controlling my mana around my fingertips. Her explanation was very easy to understand, so I could figure it out very easily.
"I see we have a genius. Haha...ha..."
Looking disheartened, Ms. Krayla continues her lesson. She goes through how this simple manipulation of our mana can aid us in various ways. For example, I could manipulate my magic to become barriers, or simply strengthen a part of my body.
Once we did a few manipulation exercises, Ms. Krayla taught me how to attribute my element to my mana. She then teaches me a few F I ranked spells and their chants, such as 'Earthquake', 'Quicksand' and 'Earth Wall'. As we rank up, we learn new spells and old spells would become stronger. To give an instance, an 'Earthquake' spell at F I would be an earthquake similar to a magnitude of 1.0, where if you were at A I, it would be similar to that of a magnitude of 8.0.
After the class ends 2 hours later, I go up to my room. I want to try to unlock my first tier magic for my blessings. I take out my box of jewels slowly out of my locked desk, and climb on the bed. I ask Emma to not let anyone in as I seclude myself. After Emma leaves, I open the box and take out my diamond. I close my eyes, and carefully surround the gem with my mana.
In just one class with Ms. Krayla, I can manipulate mana this much. It seems her teachings are working. Even though she kept saying 'she's a genius...' for most of the whole class, I decide that I didn't hear that.
The gem slowly starts to suck my mana in and I see a small white flower growing in the gem. It appears to be a lotus flower. I keep feeding it my mana and after 15 minutes, the flower shines extremely bright. I suddenly get a small headache that lasts for about a second. I get the spell to activate the magic, but no information on what it does. I don't know if I should do it here, but since it's a tier 1 spell, it should be fine, right?
The chant itself seems harmless as well, so I start to chant,
"Silence min people, grace min with your serenity; White Lotus"
A bright light emerges from the gem and above my opened palm, floats a beautiful white lotus flower.
...
...
...
It's not doing anything. I wonder if it will do something if I put some mana in it. I was right.
When I put some mana in it, there is a sweet scent coming from the lotus, purifying my mind. When I stop my mana flow, the scent dies down as well. It seems the first spell turned out as calming one. It puts the mind as ease, purifying...
...
Purifying?
Could it be that the flower's history affect what the spell becomes? I mean the white lotus was associated with Buddhism on Earth. It meant that at this state it reaches mental purity and had reached a state of spiritual perfection.
Hmmm...interesting. This is quite amusing. I'm guessing that one of my Unique Fairy had the elements of earth and light.
I reach out for the black zircon briolette doing the same as I did for the previous. There was a black light leaking out, and the gem had become slightly transparent. There, it bloomed a small black hellebore.
Hellebore, huh? I'm not sure if the meaning, but I've heard that there were legends around it in medieval England. They were said to have been used by witches to become invisible.
...
Let's try it.
I put in more mana, since, according to Ms. Krayla, I have a large mana pool. I got the headache again, and the chant as well.
"Bury I in darkness, shroud and shrew; Black Hellebore"
With another bright light, a black hellebore floats above my palm. I put in some mana, and some black pixie dust-like glitter floating around. I sprinkled it over my head, and walked over to the mirror.
I didn't have a reflection! I walked around, hearing that I wasn't making much sound either. I should check its effectiveness later with Emma.
...
Wait. How do I go back to normal?
Hm? The hellebore and the lotus seems like it follows the caster. Oh, the seeds are glowing.
I take one of the hellebore seeds and pop it in my mouth. It tasted bittersweet. I looked in the mirror again. I was in the reflection! Yay! This was a really good spell! The invisibility spell is usually an A rank spell for those with the sub-element of space. To think in can do that with a sprinkle of this flower! Obviously, this must be the element of darkness and earth.
I picked up the last one, the marquise poudretteite. I did the same as the other two, and another flower started blooming. It was a bright red tulip.
I quickly summoned it once it was ready, and yes, I did get that headache. Anyway, the beautiful tulip's bud was floating above my hand, and before I put some mana in it, I began to think about the history of the flower.
Red tulips hold a historical significance. A Turkish prince named Farad was love struck by a maiden named Shirin. When he learnt about Shirin's death, he was so overcome with grief that he killed himself by riding his horse over the edge of a cliff. It is believed that the red tulips sprang from each droplets of his blood. Thus red tulips stand for pure love.
I wondered what the power could be. Judging by the flow here, red should probably be fire. I don't think fire and pure love go together.
Unless...
It was charm magic. Here, fire was said to stand for passion; a sub-element was charm magic. It was very rare, as much as getting a unique fairy blessing.
I think that this spell might be a bit dangerous if I think what it is, so I'll keep it hidden for now.
I dispelled all the flowers, and put the gems away. It was an exciting day.
