When Josiah made his third call, Tiffany said in a chillingly sweet voice, “Jose, Lysa won’t be answering your calls.”

Josiah suddenly felt a chill run through his body. “What… what have you done to her!”

“How would I know? I was with you all along.”

Josiah was fully aware that anything he said at this moment would play right into. her ploy. Ignoring her completely, he dialed Laura’s number.

When Lysander had spoken to him on the phone, she had mentioned that she would be taking the baby to visit Laura and would wait there for him to pick them up. It seemed now that he might have to break that promise, but he asked for nothing else, only hoping that Lysander was still safe.

Several months had passed, and Laura’s mood had significantly calmed since she had left the city. When she saw Josiah’s incoming call, her first reaction was to worry about Lysander. “Mr. Guerra, has something happened to Lysander? She’s been gone for over two months, and I can’t help but worry.”

“Isn’t she with you?” Josiah’s throat tightened with anxiety. Before he had made the call, he hadn’t bothered to check the time. But now, looking at the sky outside, his heart pounded like a drum, and he feared something might have happened to her.

Laura seemed oblivious to the situation. “Why would Lysander be here by my side? Tell me the truth, have you run into some trouble? I’ve already lost my husband; I can’t afford to have anything happen to my daughter too.”

Anyone with ears could have detected the panic in her voice.

Josiah steadied his emotions, trying his best to maintain a light tone. “She’s fine. She’s just returned to Harborbrook and mentioned wanting to visit you. I was just checking if she had arrived yet. I suppose I’m just being overly anxious. It’s perfectly normal that she wouldn’t have arrived in such a short span of time.”

“Did you say Lysander has already returned?” Upon hearing that her eldest daughter was coming to see her, Laura was too delighted to even notice the slight oddity in Josiah’s tone.

The phone call ended amidst the ensuing pleasantries.

Josiah tucked away the gentle respect he had shown toward Laura and sharply questioned Tiffany, “You drugged me and deliberately drove me to such a remote place. What exactly do you want to do? Commit murder to silence me? Dillon sure has guts.”

Tiffany was aware of her physical disadvantage, so she had been fully prepared from the start. She replied in a saccharine–sweet voice, “Jose, I just want to be with you. There’s no need for you to be so angry. I won’t harm you.”

Pausing briefly, she went on, “Even now, I still remember the things from our childhood, how kind you were to me back then. So, I decided a long time ago that I would take you to a place where no one knows us. We could live a good life together, just like when we used to play house, creating a happy family. You really like children, don’t you? You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll give you plenty of our own kids, so you won’t have to take care of others‘ children anymore. We-”

The path on either side grew increasingly secluded, and the light was fading so much that it was almost impossible to see one’s hand in front of their face.

The thought of Lysander and the baby left Josiah without a shred of hesitation. He swiftly opened the car door and lunged out onto the road.

When Lysander arrived at the Thorne residence, Laura was already waiting for her at the gate. Seeing that she didn’t return alone but brought with her three children, Laura’s eyes lit up with delight.

“Lysa, Josiah just called me and said you’d be visiting me tonight. I thought if you were to bring anyone, it would be him. I didn’t expect three children. Whose kids. are these?”

Nilou had a charming personality, and without needing Lysander’s introduction, she immediately understood Laura’s identity. Hence, she greeted warmly, “Hello, Grandma Laura.”

Rhizone was not fond of speaking, but he still lifted his face politely and called out. a greeting.

Laura gently patted the heads of the two children, responding with a warm smile, “Hello to you two too. Come on in quickly. It’s so cold outside, so let’s not stay in the yard any longer.”

Lysander was still thinking about Josiah’s phone call as they made their way back to the house. She succinctly explained to Laura about the children’s background first. before asking, “Mom, you mentioned earlier that Josiah called. Did he say anything?”

“He didn’t say much, just asked if you’ve arrived yet. He’s probably worried about your safety,” Laura said, oblivious to anything amiss.

Lysander knew Josiah’s temperament better than anyone else and didn’t believe he would call Laura without a good reason. She immediately pulled out her own phone to check, only then realizing that she had been so busy taking care of the

“Mom, it’s not as serious as you think. Maybe his phone just ran out of battery. I’ll go check on him. Could you please look after the kids for a while?” Lysander said lightly, trying to ease Laura’s worries.

Laura had a soft spot for children, so naturally, she didn’t mind at all. Noticing that the baby was still asleep in the stroller, she gently and quietly wheeled it into the house.

Nilou was especially considerate, voicing her assurances without needing any prompting from Lysander. “Dr. Thorne, Rhizone and I will take good care of Grandma Laura and Aurora. You can go find Josiah without any worries.”

Lysander nodded, preparing to turn and leave. But just then, there was a knocking on the courtyard door. Two police officers had arrived.

Upon seeing the police at her doorstep, Laura was immediately overwhelmed with anxiety. Having spent most of her life as a housewife, she had always relied on Maverick to handle major issues at home. She was utterly clueless about how to deal with this situation.

Luckily, Lysander stepped forward first to inquire, “Officers, who might you be looking for?”
