Upon seeing that the patient was still there, the nurse immediately left again.

Josiah led Howard into the room, greeting the elders with the utmost- respect, “Mr. Maverick, Mrs. Thorne, how are you?”

Lysander’s breath hitched when she saw that Josiah had not only followed her there but also brought Howard along.

The situation that day seemed even more chaotic than usual.

Maverick was still seething with anger. Unable to contain his rage, he stood up and pointed at Josiah, demanding, “Get out of here!”

Maverick didn’t know Howard, but seeing him with Josiah, he was only slightly polite when he asked, “Who are you? If you’re with him, you better not stick around here!”

After the incident where Lysanne had come knocking on the door to stir. up trouble, Maverick became highly wary of any outsiders who approached him.

On her bed, Michelle was utterly bewildered.

Lysander gently patted her hand. Then, before Laura could speak, she stepped forward to stop Maverick. “Dad, we’re in a hospital. Please lower your voice.”

Only then did Maverick lower his voice, giving Josiah a direct shove.

Josiah remained unflinching, taking on his rage.

Upon hearing Lysander’s address toward Maverick, Howard felt a pang of discomfort washed over him. However, he knew he couldn’t reclaim the lost time. Nonetheless, he approached gently and said, “You must be Mr. Maverick, right? Allow me to introduce myself. I am Howard Thorne.”

Recalling the words once spoken by Lysanne, Maverick was nearly stunned on the spot. “You’re that mistress‘ father?”

“Yes…” Howard responded, a bitter expression crossing his face as he heard the mention of Lysanne. “However, I am Lysander’s biological father. Over the years, my wife and I have owed her a great deal. I truly appreciate your all for taking care of her.”

Maverick hadn’t expected Lysander’s biological father to show up so soon. Thinking about Lysanne’s actions toward his family, he couldn’t help but scoff. “Well, you’ve certainly raised a fine daughter, wrecking other people’s homes! My family might be poor, but we’ve always taught Lysa to be upright, kind–hearted, and responsible. She would never stoop to such despicable acts!”

There was no way for Howard to justify Lysanne’s actions. “It’s my fault for not guiding my daughter properly. I truly apologize.”

“You’ve not wronged me, but Lysa! You failed to care for her properly when she was young, almost letting her drown at such a tender age. Now that she’s grown up, you want to step in and play the role of a ready–made father? What’s the matter? Are you reaping the rewards of another’s effort?” Maverick was seeing red.

The color of Howard’s face kept fluctuating as Maverick berated him.

Yet, everything Maverick said was the truth, so Howard couldn’t utter a single word of rebuttal.

Howard sighed deeply for a while before he managed to compose himself. He then solemnly promised, “Please rest assured, I did not come here. today to take Lysa away. I just wanted to meet you all. If possible, I hope our two families can unite as one. In the future, we will treat Lysa’s sister as our own daughter, cherishing and caring for her.”

When Michelle was born, Lysander was already her older sister. She listened to Howard’s words, utterly at a loss for words.

Meanwhile, Laura and Maverick appeared to be filled with sorrow.

Lysander gently held her hand. “Focus on your recovery. Don’t worry about these matters for now.”

Michelle glanced between Josiah and Howard, but no matter what, she just couldn’t put her mind at ease.

In the end, it was Maverick who uttered with a serious expression, “Mich, your sister is right. This matter has nothing to do with you, so stop involving yourself.”

Michelle nodded silently, not daring to utter another word. She simply cast a worried glance toward her family.

Laura remained silent, subtly wiping away her tears on the side.

The atmosphere within the ward had reached a point of overwhelming

tension.

Josiah’s gaze never left Lysander, who was hanging her head low, his eyes. filled with concern.

Maverick was annoyed whenever he saw him. He let out a huff and said, “Enough. Everyone, stop crowding around here. Laura, take good care of Mich. I will take them outside to talk. This is a hospital, not a marketplace. Lysa is a doctor. As her parents, we must follow the hospital’s rules.”

Laura nodded, but she still expressed her concern by saying, “Be careful with your words. After all, he is Lysa’s biological father. The bond of blood is unbreakable. Don’t put Lysa in a difficult position by making her choose sides.”

With a helpless sigh, Josiah suggested, “Sirs, it’s not convenient to talk here in the hospital. I know of a rather tranquil café nearby. It offers privacy and good service. Why don’t we go there and talk at our leisure?”

Howard immediately nodded. “Sure.”

Josiah sought Maverick’s opinion once again by asking, “Mr. Maverick, what do you think?”

Maverick gave a cold huff, ignoring him completely.

Lysander didn’t really object to this, but she found it hard to persuade Maverick. She simply said in a gentle voice, “Dad, it’s not quite appropriate to discuss matters in the hallway.”

Maverick frowned. “Are you actually defending him?”

“No, not at all. How could you even think that? Since the moment we left the resort, I haven’t exchanged a single word with him, just as you asked.”

Upon hearing her words, Maverick eased up a bit. “All right, I think the

Lysander didn’t take it. “Dad, it’s cold out. You might catch a chill.”

“I’d rather freeze to death than let you wear his clothes! Right now, Mr. Guerra is engaged. Why should you be wearing his clothes?” Maverick uttered.

Upon hearing this, Josiah immediately made a phone call. “Carol, release the announcement of the canceled engagement.”
