The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 490 A Profound Sense Of Unease
âSince you were ill when you boarded the plane, why didnât you tell me before you left?â
A glint flashed in Lysanderâs eyes as she retorted, âHow did you end up in economy class?â
She was asking about the incident on the airplane..
âI went straight there. No one in economy class would refuse to switch seats with me.â
âWhat about Tiffany? Didnât she question why?â Lysander inquired.
âNo.â Josiah responded.
Lysander found it a bit peculiar. âIsnât she curious about where youâre going?â
âI told her I had something to take care of and had to leave for a bit. She wouldnât have pressed for details.â
Lysander felt that Tiffany was just too naive, almost excessively so.
Tiffany is already twentyâthree years old! Even if she was wellâprotected, she couldnât possibly be this naive, could she? I hope that there are no more people like Harry or Zachary in this world. Otherwise, given Tiffanyâs current state, she would be a perfect target for men like them!
Lysanderâs phone seemed to have a knack for timing, ringing at just the right moment.
However, her phone just happened to be on her left side, making it a bit inconvenient for her to reach it.
Upon seeing the situation, Josiah promptly picked it up.
âWho is it?â she asked, feeling a bit scared that it could be Adrian.
Things were already chaotic enough. If another person got involved, it would become a complete mess.
Josiah glanced at the caller ID, then promptly hit the answer button. He held the phone to his ear, his expression unchanging as he said, âHello, Mr. Thorne.â
Upon realizing that it was Howard, Lysander let out a slight sigh of relief.
However, Josiahâs reaction was rather indifferent. Other than quietly listening to Howardâs words, he would only occasionally interject with a noncommittal response, making it impossible to discern the content of their conversation from such brief responses.
Thankfully, the phone call didnât last long. He concluded it with a vague statement, saying. âDonât worry: Iâm here, and everythingâs fine,â
After saying that, Josiah placed the phone back beside Lysanderâs pillow, seemingly having no intention to bring up the content of the conversation.
Left with no other choice, Lysander had to ask him, âDid you tell him about my illness?â
âIt wasnât me who brought it up. He called last night while you were asleep. The elders would have been worried if the calls keep going unanswered,â said Josiah.

Josiah wore a complex expression and fell silent for a moment before replying. âThe person who called was a different Mr. Thorne.â
The expression on Lysanderâs face changed instantly.
A different Mr. Thorne? That meansâ¦.
Unlike Howard, Maverick held a particularly deep prejudice against Josiah due to past events. Even if Lysander mentioned him to Maverick, he would explode with anger, a departure from his usual demeanor.
Lysander massaged her forehead and asked, âDid he scold you over the phone last night?â
This was to be expected.
If it werenât for the constraints of the law, Maverick would have certainly given Josiah a good heating right at the time of their divorce.
Upon hearing this, Josiah immediately flipped out her call history to show her.
One hour and fortyâtwo minutes? It seems the scolding went on for quite a whileâ¦
Josiah, however, didnât seem too bothered by it. âHe couldnât help it. His daughter fell ill while away, and I was the only one around. So, things werenât too bad. It was clear that he was holding back.â
âHis temperament is just like that.â
âI know. Do you want to continue sleeping? If you donât feel like it, I can help you adjust your hospital bed,â said Josiah as he looked at her.
Lysander slowly reclined back onto her pillow, her face etched with worry as she asked. âNo need. My dad. wouldnât call this late without a reason, though. Has something happened at home?â
Josiahâs silence was all she needed to confirm it
Lysander took a deep breath, mentally bracing herself as she pressed on, âIs it about the house? Or is it about Zachary?â
âItâs neither of those. Itâs your sister, Michelle, Sheâs back from an overseas summer camp, and she was in a car accident on the way home from the airport. Your father thought you might still have connections at the hospital and wanted to ask if you could possibly pull some strings,â Josiah said, his tone softening unexpectedly.
âA car accident? How serious was it? How is Michelle doing now?â Lysander exclaimed in shock.
Before Josiah even began to speak, he was mentally prepared to intercept Lysander. His broad, warm hands gently held her down on the hospital bed. What followed was a voice, seldom as gentle as it was now, as he said, âCould you let me finish speaking first?â
Lysanderâs heart was filled with anxiety. âWhy are you only telling me this now? And youâre still eating an appleâ¦â
Her condition after the high fever was so terrible that she could only manage to utter a few short sentences before a splitting headaché set in, and her throat began to ache as well. She tried to push Josiah away without any regard for her own state, but she was simply too weak to resist him. She couldnât even pull her 2/3

hand, which was hooked up to an IV drip, free from his grip..
âLet go of me!â Lysander exclaimed frantically.
Having been unjustly misunderstood, Josialâs mood was greatly affected, and he immediately pursed his thin lips. Even so, he didnât lash out at her. Instead, for the sake of Lysanderâs distressed concern, he repeated himself. âCalm down and listen to me.â
âAll right, then. Carry on,â she said.
Josiah then patiently relayed the conversation from the previous night. âMichelle is fine. She was said to be in a car accident, but it was really just an electric scooter. The other party, afraid of taking responsibility, fled the scene immediately. It was a kind passerby who promptly took her to the hospital.â
âAn electric scooter?â Lysander silently murmured the phrase, her strength that had just been gathered nearly dissipated completely. With a worried gaze, she looked into the deep eyes before her and asked, âIf it was just a minor injury, why would they call me in the middle of the night?â
Josiah helped her lie back down, then took a seat himself and said, âShe has completed her medical examination. Her bones are fine, but she did hit the ground when she fell, so she has some bruises and will need a few days of rest. Mr. Thorne called you simply because he wanted to find a good doctor. After all, Michelle is a girl and he didnât want her to be left with scars.â
âHand me your phone. I need to get in touch with my colleagues from the plastic surgery department at the central hospital.â
âIâve already made the arrangements.â
A sense of relief washed over Lysander.
Fortunately, it was just an electric scooter.
However, for reasons unknown, she was still consumed by an intense feeling of unease.
âDid they manage to catch the person who ran away?â
âNot yet, but the kindâhearted person who had taken Michelle to the hospital had already called the police. There are surveillance cameras at the intersection where the accident occurred, so it is only at matter of time before they track down the person.â
âWhat did the police say about this?â
âThereâs a high chance it will be classified as an accident,â said Josiah, his tone indifferent.
Lysander let out a cold chuckle. âDo you believe it?â
Josiah felt her hand become even colder than before. âNo, I donât.â
âI donât believe it either.â
