The following morning, while having breakfast, Lysander handed over a bank card loaded with two million to her parents.

“Lysa, why are you giving us your bank card?”

With a nonchalant expression, Lysander said, “I called Daphne last night. She mentioned she had some personal savings set aside. She’s offered to lend us some to tide over our immediate needs, interest–free.”

Maverick looked at her disapprovingly. “Really?”

Lysander handed him the phone directly. “Why don’t you call Daphine directly and ask?”

Laura mediated the situation and said, “All right, all right. Daphne really came through for us. Despite her own company facing troubles, she was willing to lend us money. Lysa, you should invite Daphne over for a meal sometime. Two million is not a small sum. We should properly thank her.”

Lysander said. “Her company has been swamped with issues lately. I reckon she doesn’t have the time. We can talk about it once things settle down.”

“Okay, anytime is fine. Just don’t let it interfere with Daphne’s important matters.”

Maverick was still somewhat skeptical. “Lysa, did Josiah give you this money?”

Lysander responded quickly and very honestly, “No.”

She spoke with conviction, for she wasn’t lying.

Upon seeing her confident demeanor, Maverick finally believed her. “As long as it’s not him, that’s fine. Also, it’s not right to not pay interest. Regardless of who we borrow money from, we should give Daphne interest at the rate same as the banks. We can’t let Daphne suffer a loss.”

As long as the loan could be paid off first, all future matters could be properly planned.

Lysander nodded. “All right, I’ll mention it to her later and see if she’s interested.”

“We must give it to her even if she doesn’t accept it. During our hard times, Daphne was there to lend a hand, so we must show our gratitude.”

“Okay, okay. If you say so, I’ll do it. The food is getting cold. Dad, you better start eating. After we finish, I’ll go with you to the bank to pay off the loan.”

After breakfast, Lysander accompanied her father to the bank.

She watched with her own eyes as Maverick signed the documents and swiped the card, settling the loan in

full.

To be on the safe side, Lysander also requested a loan settlement certificate.

By the time they returned home, it was almost noon.

Laura was at home preparing lunch, with her daughter, Michelle, who had recently become much more sensible, assisting her mother.

As long as Michelle was not in Harborbrook, Zachary no longer had the means to threaten her using Michelle’s safety.

After having lunch with her foster parents and younger sister, Lysander stayed at home until the

choose the restaurant.

On the other side, Adrian had been staring at the message on his phone screen for quite a while. He rubbed his eyes as if fearing she might change her mind. He called her and asked, “Lysander, are you really inviting me for a meal?”

“This incident is a big deal for our family, so I really should treat you.”

After a moment of contemplation, Adrian said, “You once promised me that given the chance, you’d personally cook a meal for me, so I could taste your culinary skills. But up until now, you haven’t fulfilled that promise. How about we cash in that rain check this time?

This was quite some time ago, so Lysander was surp sed that he still remembered.
