Chapter 444
The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 444 Did He Just Kiss Your Neck
Josiah waited silently for her to continue.
âThe situation hasnât gotten so bad that we need to
make him disappear.â Lysander analyzed their situation clearly: âThe thief broke in to steal and then tried to assault me. Both are undeniable crimes, and he will surely go to jail, but he doesnât deserve to die.â
She hopped off the bed and walked out.
Josiah grabbed her, frowning. âWhere are you going?â
âMy phone is in the living room. I need to call the police.â
Seeing that Josiah still didnât let her go, she added, âYou acted in selfâdefense to protect me. Even if he is dead, it would be considered justifiable. Iâm not trying to get you arrested. Iâm not that heartless.â
Josiah snorted. âThatâs debatable.â
Lysander didnât want to argue with him right now and said, âSexual assault is a violent crime. When the police arrive, Iâll explain everything clearly.â
Josiahâs smile vanished completely. âYou still wonât listen to me.â
Lysander remained silent, confirming his words.
Josiah said in a low voice, âLysander, weâve been married for three years, but it seems youâve never truly trusted me.â
âIs this really the time to bring that up? The guy outside could still be saved, but if we delay any longer, he might not be.â
âI just feel like Iâve failed,â Josiah said. âYouâre very independent and strongâwilled, but youâve built a high. wall around your heart. You donât come out, and no one can get in. I canât get in, and neither can Adrian.â
Lysander said nothing.
âYou didnât lie to me about one thing: you donât need love. Even without love, you can live well. Or rather, you
donât allow yourself to fall into it. You rationally leave yourself an escape route and withdraw at the first sign of danger, protecting yourself to the fullest extent.â
âIsnât that right?â
Josiah said, âIâm not saying youâre wrong. I actually admire you for always being able to make the most rational decisions. You did it when you left me and when you quickly aborted the baby to sever all ties with
me.â
âIf you want to think of it that way, then fine.â Lysander took a deep breath. âThis happened because of me, and I canât just leave the mess for someone else to clean up. Besides, after such a commotion tonight, itâs hard to hide it from the police. Even if I were to follow your plan, I might not be able to escape punishment, and I donât want to hide behind others like a coward.â
Josiahâs tone softened slightly. âThe theft can be proven by the fingerprints in your home, but attempted sexual assault is hard to prove legally. He didnât actually succeed, and they wonât find his biological

Lysander thought for a moment and then loosened the coat tightly wrapped around her. She looked down at the torn her and collar of her nightgown and quietly said, âThere is DNA evidence on this nightgown and on my neck. The police can collect it and compare it.â
Josiah froze, his breath catching. With his reddened eyes and tightly pressed lips, he looked frightening.
Lysander didnât notice his reaction and continued logically, âI struggled and tried to scratch the thiefâs face but didnât succeed. However, his biological evidence is definitely on meâ¦â
It wasnât until the roomâs atmosphere turned a degree colder did she look up and see Josiahâs furious expression. His pupils shrank, his hands clenched into fists. He gritted his teeth as he asked, âDid he kiss your neck?â
The question was blunt.
Lysander felt embarrassed and wanted to cover her neck but was afraid of wiping away the DNA evidence. She covered her neck with her loose hair and recalled, âHe only touched it during the struggle.
Without looking back, Josiah walked out of the bedroom and asked, âDo you have a pair of pliers at home?â
Lysanderâs alreadyâsoaked nightgown was drenched in cold sweat again. She hurriedly pushed off the blanket and put on slippers. After chasing him into the living room, she stopped him from grabbing the thiefâs collar. âWhat do you need pliers for?â
Josiahâs face remained unchanged as he said matterâofâfactly. âTo pull out his tongue.â
There werenât any pliers in the living room. His gaze swept across the cluttered floor and spotted a conveniently sized piece of broken glass.
Just as he bent down to pick it up. Lysander kicked it away, grabbed his sleeve, and stopped him. âCalm down, will you?â
The rain outside had lessened, and moonlight gradually filled the living room, illuminating their faces.
Josiahâs face was expressionless as he stared at the unconscious thief with a look of disdain. âHe deserves it.â
Lysander clung to his waist, preventing him from acting impulsively. âI still prefer the gentle you from before.
Josiah lowered his head, looking into her eyes. Finally, he smiled sadly and asked, âIf I became the gentle person I used to be, would you come back?â
Lysander didnât answer his question.
âYou wonât.â
He lifted his hand, and with a little force, he could have shaken Lysander off, but he couldnât bring himself.
to do it.
This is the first time since our separation that youâve voluntarily hugged me,â he scoffed. âAnd itâs for a scumbagâ
Lysander quickly let go as if burned. âI just donât wash things to escalate further.â

âYeah, I know.â Josiah snorted coldly. âI know you too well.â
The living room was eerily silent.
Lysander and Josiah stood still for a while before she quietly asked, âAre you calm now?â
Josiah grunted in acknowledgment hoarsely.
Only then did Lysander release Josiah and turn to squat beside the thief. Despite her disgust and fear, his survival was crucial to them.
The thief remained motionless, but upon her careful observation, she noticed a faint rise and fall in his
chest.
Lysander pressed her hand to his neck and sighed in relief. âHeâs still alive.â
Josiah said coldly, âThatâs because it was too dark to see clearly.â
Still worried, Lysander checked the thiefâs condition carefully before wrapping her collar tightly and standing up.
âThough Iâm not an orthopedic doctor, judging by his state of unconsciousness, he has multiple broken bones. Fortunately, none are fatal. However, the blood on his face looks bad, and heâs lost several teeth.â
Josiah wordlessly let out a cold laugh, his hand that had been hanging by his side gradually relaxed, revealing the blood smeared on his knuckles. It belonged to both the thief and himself.
Lysander found some tissues from the mess and handed them to him to wipe his hands. She then retrieved her phone to call 911.
Josiah stood by silently, with no intention of leaving.
Lysander provided the dispatcher with their exact address and detailed the thiefâs condition, instructing them to bring a stretcher and stabilizers. Though not lifeâthreatening, a sternum fracture could be serious if it punctured a lung, making a stretcher necessary for safe transport.
After hanging up, she looked at the shattered glass on the floor and asked softly, âThe glass is quite thick. Did you break this glass with your bare hands?â
After calming down, Josiah finally felt the pain from smashing the glass with his bare hands. He retorted, âWhat else could I have done? Headbutt it?â
